Excellent illustration and explanation of what I saw most bluegrass pickers do. One of them told me I didn’t have to play “fancy chords”(barre chords)😂The coolest part is they can utilize all of the same licks from their bag of tricks in any key with a capo.

super helpful. I have nerve damage and some arthritis in my fretting index finger. Barre chords never really sound right because my index finger was surgically repaired. Guitar is good therapy - but this was SUPER helpful to folks like me.

I can't strum do to a repaired shoulder injury so I have learned finger picking/Travis picking. I find if I don't use the bar chord as intended, it will not sound right. Sometimes I can do this method but find that's is rare.

If you have the hands for it, you can play a Bm7 like a Dmaj and thumb over two strings on the 2n setd fret. No bar there. If you want a Fma7, you can thumb one string on the 1st fret and play it like a barred Emaj

I've played for nearly 40 years, and have barely played any barre chords for 15+ years. Triads and shell chords is where it's at.

isn’t it interesting how everybody approaches the instrument differently. So much to learn. Thanks for adding us, my friend. Good stuff.

Nobody really shows the "bassy" style F, which helps understand power chords.
I often practice searching for a pleasant sound between different "sides" of F, as is really showcases the unique way of guitar and helps with muscle building.

That’s one way, but that’s not the fun way. Play it with the C feel at the fifth fret. I reveal all this in the free course I’m giving you.👍
