There was a train ride, I remember the wooden roller coaster Merry go round.the 2 pillars was the opening to the park. Watched many fire works there for 4 the of July. My mom would drop us off with a few dollars and we had fun for several hours. That was in the late 50s to 60s. I'm almost 72 now.
I’m 73. Born in 1951 and CP was SUCH an exciting place for my sister and me. We loved The Tumble Bug. My dad took me on The Gorge rolled coaster when I was in, I think, fifth grade. Terrified me. My mom said I was actually cross-eyed when we got off. 😅 CP was the first place I had French fries with vinegar. We would dress in our very best summer clothes to go there. It was a great park and it’s a crime they let it decay to its current state. I remember “Old Timer’s Day” was held in the beautiful pavilion at the entrance. We would take our grandparents every year.
I grew up there and mom and dad took us kids to the park in the 50's and 60's. I rode all the rides many times and know where each was at. I rode the Carrosel many times in that round building and if you were lucky you could lean out and grab a brass ring from a holder as you rode by. The Comet, Space Rocket, TumbleBug, train, bumper cars (where that covered platform is) and many smaller rides. The main entrance was there at the stone gates. You drove in and out there but I see it is now closed because of the buildup of Washington St. We also swam many times at the public pool down below the park. Cascade was always packed out in the summers. It is sad to see it all gone now except for a few things there. In the early 70's there were rock concerts in the pavilion. I left in '74 when I joined the Army...never returned. As a kid we all went to Idora Park and Conneaut Lake State Park ALOT.
first and foremost, thank you for your service! second thank you for watching and sharing some of your memories, I could almost imagine being there by reading that! My place was Idora Park because we lived so close. I wish I would have seen Cascade Park at least once in its heyday!! Thanks again!!
Jim did you know that the carousel that was at cascade was the original carousel from Idora. That station was from the mini train station. Another great video
hey thanks for watching! that I did not know so thanks for the added info! what I do know is that in NYC is the carousel as well. so, it must have changed hands a few times then. Thanks for the positivity!!
I grew up in the 70's which was past the heyday of the rides. The roller coaster was still running. The highlight of the park at that time was that awesome pool. You could see the roller coaster pass by from the shallow end of the pool periodically. I always wanted to go on the roller coaster, but my mother, who was already afraid of roller coasters, would not allow it because of how obviously rickety it had become. Later on in the 80's I was strolling through the park with my uncle looking at remnants of rides. At that time there were still cars from rides laying around. Unbeknownst to us they were working on demolishing the roller coaster that day (I thought it was just ppl walking around in the ravine down there). I heard a loud crack that will never leave my brain and watched as one of the hills of the roller coaster fell to the ground. My heart fell with it. Cascade and New Castle brought me some of the best times of my life.
It's a shame that many of our "heyday" parks have been abandoned and closed (I guess the times need to change in certain ways) for me it was Idora Park in Youngstown, I could draw a map in detail of that place based on memories. Thanks for watching and sharing some memories!
Wow! That has to hold a lot of memories for you for sure. I can tell just from the walk I took that it would have been magical!! Thanks again for watching and commenting!
You have taken casual walks and turned them into learning experiences. It could be interesting to find a little diner and chat with some locals who remember when. Enjoy your videos.
I definitely appreciate your comments and watching!! I love to run into people and have small conversations with them as well! glad you like my channel format!!
I’m glad you’ve added your drone footage in! It really enhances the journey. I am from East Liverpool, where you have done quite a bit of filming. But I work in New castle. And didn’t know this place existed. I’ve picked up the book and will be journeying over this next week! Thanks for what you do
hey, I most definitely need to thank you for all the positive vibes you just sent!! I'm glad I can share different experiences that make you want to venture out!! Thanks for watching!
I'm 72 and I have a lot of find memories Cascade Park the dances on the weekends to ride the swimming pool spent a lot of time there when I was growing up
Bet that’s the terminal station. Loading/unloading dock for patrons. Remember this was, as Idorah and Rocksprings Park, a Terminal park. Great video, thank You.
Thank you for watching and thanks for the added input! This is the part that I actually really like to hear.....other people's history, opinions and knowledge!!
The swimming pools were awesome back in the day!!! Some nice looking lifeguards back in the day!!! I remember you were not allowed to jump of the diving boards!!!! DUH!!!! There were 2 low dives and one high dive. We would get 20 or 30 guys together and all run and jump off all 3 diving boards at the same time. It would drive the lifeguards nuts cause they would be blowing there whistles and trying to throw us all out for the day. 😂😂🤣🤣😆
Also, im glad a was a good young man in that locker room cause My Father and I went to a high school graduation party some years later. Sitting at our table was Lester, and he remembered me from the Park. He told my Pop I was a good boy at the pool. Lucky for me , cause my Father would of whipped my butt!!!
GREAT!!! Video Jim 👍👍 i love going their and exploring , also nice touch at the end of video with the drone footage and old photos , truly awesome indeed.
It was also called a trolley park cause the trollley would from New Castle to Pittsburgh.. That round building was a Merry go round. The train was the left of that. The 2nd entraince was the origial
Thanks for watching and commenting! the added info is greatly appreciated! a lot of the older amusement parks seemed to have played that same role of a sort of travel station! thanks again!!
I grew up in New Castle, my mom & older sisters used to tell me what rides were where, but I never got brave enough to figure out how to get down to the water
Thanks again for commenting and watching! I love to hear personal stories from people. I could see how people need some sort of bravery to adventure to the water! lol
I grew up in the country and really never paid no mind to snakes until this year!! The video I was doing was in West Virginia at the old lock house and a snake was right above my head!!! now I am always cautious!! Thanks for watching as always!
As always, great video. If you have a chance some day I'd love to see you explore South Side Park in Youngstown which was off of South Ave. I believe. There's another abandoned pool down there, and I was always curious about that place. It's similar to Lincoln Park.
Hey again thanks for the positive vibes!! At some point I may have to venture there and check it out... so many places that I want to get to!! Thanks for watching buddy!!

I meant the last shelter, after the memorial and you were right about the little building on the hill they had the best fries in a cone cup malt vinegar salt and ketchup. There used to be a fence near the italian ice stand with a swing ride in the midway and a building on the other side with games like skeeball for coupon s and prizes.
