For those who wonder why it isn't all English: This is taking place in France. France is the language there, and Kirsten speaks it well enough to do a press conference which is amazing enough for her third (as far as I know ... but wait, she reads Finnish?!) language. Sailing is a huge sport in France; much more popular there than in the US. And most French people are not fluent in English. Translation is a very expensive thing to provide, live interpretation even more so, and the GGR is a bootstrap operation in only its second edition in recent times. A few people do everything out of their own passion, and they aren't exactly making money at it. RUclips will eventually auto-add closed captions and auto-translations, but it can take a few days for those to appear, as I know from my own experience uploading videos. The GGR is becoming more popular worldwide thanks to the amazing sailors and the intrepid vision of Don McIntyre (who doesn't speak a lot of French), with his wife Jane's constant assistance. But it's not a scripted reality TV show with a big budget like people are used to seeing on TV. And it's not the Olympics with its long history and corporate sponsorship by deep-pocketed companies like Visa and government support in every country of the world. It's ordinary people doing extraordinary things however they can, and communicating through free services like RUclips and Facebook with smartphones and ordinary network connections. So please take it in the spirit of the sailors on the sea with just their physical bodies, emotional strength, cleverness and strong spirit, and wait for the closed captions and translations to appear in time, just as Kirsten had to wait for a tiny bit of wind to help her float across the finish line.
However, EVERY video that has been posted is in English, so, to sit there and spend months watching videos in English only to get to the end and have poor videography (ending the live streams - don't even get me started on that) and find out it's mostly in French is, shall we say - disheartening (that's putting it mildly). And yes, we're aware this is the second year and yes, we're aware it's a passion and Don is definitely getting some "feedback" on all of this and all we can do is hope that next year he has more experienced help.
Oh yes. Congratulations Kirsten and Minnehaha! Please, please, please, Don. Why does Kirsten have to sell her boat? That is terrible. And unimaginable! Kirsten has now become the most famous and influential woman in sailing history. Please do not allow that to happen to her.
Imagine that you ran up debt to race and stop income from race preparation and boat refit, another year on top racing. Plus, interest. Reward her with assistance to keep it.
I cannot imagine being there. To learn from one of the welcoming boats out looking from her “oh you’re first in” must have been thrilling! She looks great here. S Africa and PEI must be thrilled and proud. Would love to be there at this press conference! Kirsten is beautiful! Keep the boat! It is now part of you! If it was a wooden hull, my feelings would be different! Do not let Minnehaha go!
Sailed into a well earned place in the record books. Inspiring for many. I can’t wait to read the book I hope she will one day write. Thanks to all at ggr for these broadcasts.
Well done, congratulations to Kirsten,it was the best way for me to witness this great effort and I hope to see you all in the next GGR,love to everyone from Las Vegas Nevada ❤
So proud of you I’ve watched almost every day. What an amazing young woman you accomplished what I always wanted to. You will never regret this time. Enjoy the accomplishment. Look forward to you winning the next time also.
Ok quite honestly watching and listening to this press conference this was the most enlightening, sharing, beautiful exchange between the most passionate diverse group of our sailing world I have ever witnessed. I could not have imagined anything better. XO
For those lamenting the idea that Kirsten would sell her boat: I learned some things from co-owning boats for a few years. They are expensive and a lot of work to own. They cost a lot for annual launching, haul-out and mooring or dock fees, they need a lot of maintenance which you have to do, or pay someone to do. They have to suit your purpose, your family size, the sea (or lake) you are sailing on, your lifestyle (retired or working?), your health, whether you have a spouse who likes to sail or not, etc. If you're going round the world you get a suitable boat and prepare it for that. If you're working fulltime on other people's boats, you may just want a little sailing dinghy or kayak or maybe a bicycle instead. A boat equipped for ocean cruising or racing needs to be in the hands of someone who's really going to use it for that. You can't just keep them as souvenirs unless you're going to use them a lot. That's the reality.
This was perfect. In fact, a truly magnificent example of what happens when you are passionate about something. Hats off to everyone that made this GGR 2022 happen. Congratulations to sailors, yatchs, and the millions of people who came together in one common thought to love and support each sailor. thank you ❤
So excited for her. And overwhelmed for her. I can't imagine what's it's like being alone for so long then suddenly swarmed by people. I bet she's missing Minnihaha and sound of sailing and sea.
Kirsten, the sailing community I hope will raise enough funds that you will have the boat for ever. GGR just open an account we can donate. Thumbs up if yo agree.
Two happy days of one's life.....the day you buy your boat and the day you sell her. Having o owned several, I fully understand the emotions involved. Kirsten may sell her boat....but I guarantee it will not be her last. Someone will be buying a piece of history I pray they look after it as she did. Well done Kirsten. You are an inspiration to any youngsters out there dreaming of doing something like this!
Gracious winner. A second watch for the French translation later, I barely understand enough for a tease. This Bear made it around the world first and none asked a question.
Congratulations Kirsten for a exciting, well prepared race. I understand your love for Minnehaha because I owned a Cape George 36 also. These boats have soul and sail so perfectly. What a team you and Minnehaha are.
A few of the reporters might have followed the race at the end but the daily you tube and FB followers would have had a lot better questions , maybe Don could set up a Q & A with Kiresten , abiliasha , Gugg the others for some proper Q&A Cheers Warren
Most sailors have their lows in the highs. Paraphrasing Kirsten. I know I’ve already commented when I watched it the first time but it impressed me so much I’m having another viewing.
Well done Kirsten , you are now part of the G.G.R HALL OF FAME , CONGRATULATIONS ! I am curious as to who it was that asked you why you were heading so far to the east and thus sowing the seed of doubt in yourself I always thought that the only Advice entrants received regarding their passage was only if there was a risk of danger due to adverse weather conditions .
-Translation is a very expensive thing to provide ?.
It’s a pity that their are no English subtitles even! We in South Africa are so proud of her- in a time when we need something as a nation to feel proud of… but we are not French- speaking so under nothing!

YOU can set on your computer or device...SUB TITLES ..they will then be in the language spoken...then set TRANSLATE and you choose the language....it is not hard...good luck instructions are on RUclips :)
That's the difference between Simon and Kirsten. Simon heads as straight for the rum line as possible. That makes him fast but it takes a toll on the equipment. Kirsten is more kind to her boat and that's why she is in the race and Simon as Good as he is, is out. He failed to prep and look after his boat over that distance. (Yes I know they said it was a freak event, that broke his wind vane. But if he had been more gentle on it he may still have been in the race.
Kirsten, with a surname like that you must have a German background. That is neither her nor there. My wife's name is Kerstin, also a German. Both of us are extremely proud of you for doing what you did!!!! We love your boat's name - Laughing water- and while we appreciate that you will sell Minnehaha, we also appreciate that you will buy another boat. It will, however not be named Minnehaha, because that name is now sacred. Go well. JB, Pretoria
10 minutes in before we hear from the winner. And very little of the long comments from the others up to that point were about her accomplishment or addressed to her. Interesting.
Please switch on subtitles as I have no clue what was said. Because it was French. Normally don you sit on the boat with them an hour before heading to the stage. It was rushed. Kirsten came in 🤗🤗hugs & well done. She seen her mum then the mayor somthing then next thing I new done couldn’t get back close to the boat to many people surrounded her then she’s in the stage. All in French. And no subtitles. As say this as I love use but keep it Australian ye do the French to buy turn subs on. Well done Kirsten
As i bet my new dinghy and outboard on you, i'm glad you stopped holding back and showed everyone what a superb yachtswoman you are, but in the next race, would you please just go for it from the beginning and stop giving the others a bit of hope by hold back.

Apprendre le francais. Elargissez votre monde.
Yes, translating can take time but the technology is available for instant translation. It should be part of any international event.
I think it is just fine. Thanks Don for everything.
I will definitely re-watch when the subtitles are generated to get the translation. There were stories worth the wait.
Thanks to GGRs French hosts.
She’s incredibly eloquent and together considering what she’s just done. Huge respect.
Oh yes. Congratulations Kirsten and Minnehaha! Please, please, please, Don. Why does Kirsten have to sell her boat? That is terrible. And unimaginable! Kirsten has now become the most famous and influential woman in sailing history. Please do not allow that to happen to her.
The only way to prevent this from happening is to start a crowd funding and pay for her to keep it.
Imagine that you ran up debt to race and stop income from race preparation and boat refit, another year on top racing. Plus, interest.

Crowded funding is effective.

Congratulations, Kirsten! What a great feat!
What a wonderful person, I am so happy she won! 🤗

Yes, that's basically what Kirstem was saying, she wants Minnehaha to undertake more sailing projects instead of just rotting away. Sensible.
You're right in some ways, but a boat that safely sees you 30,000 miles is a little bit different. There's a bond . . .
@@HilaryPeyton-rw2ex excellent reply. Agree 100%!

remarkable achievement, i've been rooting for her all the way hoping nothing would break....
I love her - humility, humbleness, honesty…she answered to the question is she proud of herself that she is HAPPY! That’s the right answer!!!
It was her intuition and connection with the sea that gave her an advantage.
WOMEN IN WIND!
My admiration knows no bounds, what an accomplishment. Absolute legend. Superb race.

Bravo! I really hope she will write a book to capture the story of this achievement.
This must be so overwhelming to be surrounded by so many people after 233 days alone at sea. Just wow!
Such a great ambassador for the sport. Her French is very good and they will love her for it. She's a sailing rockstar!
Well done Kirsten and Don and the team. What shall I do now every morning with no more tracker updates.
We would welcome you back to the Maritimes with big open arms and hearts ❤

I'm wondering what Eddie Arsenault thinks about the bowstring issue
The sound is poor, can't understand much.

What is the name of that South African author she mentioned here?

Interesting perspective given no English port was welcoming. Let's get them competing for the honors.
Baie geluk!!!
