    In my experience with carburetors on the street, is they always need to run at least a power valve in the primaries, like you have done. Even if its a drag motor with minimal street use. Otherwise like you have discovered, you have a rich cruise mixture.

    You can alter (fine tune) the AFR’s by tuning the Idle air bleeds and the High speed air bleeds.
    PV selection is a function of engine vacuum. A solid base PV is to measure your engine vacuum warm, at idle, in gear then subtract 2hg from the observed vacuum. Then drive it and see how it transitions. JD
    P.S. Some high stall converters (loose) and manual transmission apps you Divide the idle vacuum by 2.
    Carb sizing, if you show vacuum at WOT the carb is too small.

    @1:47 and paused. Put a power valve in it. All 4 butterflies closed. Drill the butterflies on the idle/transfer circuit slot side but in the center near the shaft. If you start turning the adjustment screw to either primary or secondary you'll get into your transfer circuit and lose fuel mixture control. I've started at 0.125" on all four butterflies in 950cfm 4150 carbs. Let your initial timing determine your idle speed. Limit total timing where you want it via bushing size. Have all your advance in by 3k RPM. the air bleeds may need a change.

      This. Most of the time you're gonna see somewhere between 10:1 and 12:1 on e85. It has to run way fatter than regular non ethanol fuel since you're pumping in something like 30% more fuel volume.

  • @Hitman-ds1ei
    @Hitman-ds1ei 2 года назад +2

    On a NA motor running no power valve is a no no, simply because the power valve channel restriction is for tuning WOT not just acceleration, idle feed restriction is obviously for idle to transition and main jet is for transition and cruise, without a power valve you will have no way of leaning at light load throttle openings, most times I see power valve deleted is to compensate for insufficient main well flow with Ethanol or Methanol conversions as they are too lazy to remove plugs and enlarge main well sizes, on alky blown engines power valve delete is usually done to prevent artificial venturi vacuum signal closing power valve at WOT due to high air mass flow thru carbs and leaning fuel curve at top end. With alky conversions and factory alky carbs the emulsion tubes are also removed from main wells to increase flow through main circuit as well, I've even seen the accelerator squirters check ball left out so it induces a syphoning effect at high rpm to supply extra fuel when main wells cannot flow enough but that again is a crutch like removing PV on NA motors, done right it should drive like on gas with a variable fuel curve

    With the wideband reading on the gas scale max power would be found in the 12.5 -13.2 range for pure gasoline and 10.5 -12.75 range for E85. This would put Methanol in the 9.1 - 11.0 range on a afr gauge using gas scale?
    Have a mustang transitioning to methanol and just have a gas AFR gauge in it. I prefer tuning in Lambda but this gauge only displays AFR

    • @TPVPRO
      @TPVPRO  2 года назад +1

      10.5 is really fat with E85 on a gas scale. The O2 is still lambda even if it is saying 12s on a gas scale it just takes a lot more E85 to hit 12s. But if you switch over to a lambda scale there will be zero confusion. look at the plus to confirm WOT fueling that will not lie.

    • @YerkitRacingChannel
      @YerkitRacingChannel 2 года назад

      @@TPVPRO thanks for the reply. No doubt the plugs don't lie! I figured 10.5 was still pretty fat for E85 but was under the impression that it would still make peaked power at a richer mixture albeit at the expense of fuel mileage. Just thinking that might be a reason the carb was originally setup richer if the tuner wasn't concerned with mileage but just being in the max power window for the fuel.

    isn't the air fuel parameters for e85 supposed to be 850s instead of the 13.1 for gasoline??Also, I have learned with E85, you should use 1oz per gallon of top lube or the green E85 fuel treatment, if not, you will see corrosion in the fuel and carb after only 2 or 3 days of sitting, the additives puts a stop to that

    • @TPVPRO
      @TPVPRO  2 года назад

      I see this a lot, every wideband is lamba but the scale for the fuel is different. For E85 to reach 12.0-12.50 it requires a lot more fuel so the scale is different but the O2 doesn't care about scale so it will be almost the same on a gas scale. Hope that makes sense.

    Here's the problem. You cannot buy any carb ready to bolt on for street and strip. I bought a QFuel 750 e85 for my 355 drag car which runs on the street a little. I can tell you more about it now than i care to know. First it was too small for e85 as i kept pulling back vacuum as rpm increased fast, which i have to say is attributed to 5.13 gears. I jetted, changed mab's iab's took the power valve out. Got it to run very well only was still a little fat. Too small a carb with e85 gives you problems. I took the 750 modified it for the 850/950 base and walla of course it all changed but i kept getting closer. Biggest problem is off idle and cruise, this is where your power valve can help as you can never quite get the idle and t slot right as you have different vacuum levels on this circuit. I did notice your carb has the t slot restrictors in it. That's a good move to solving some of the idle / cruise problems. Now keep in mind the sec idle t slot circuit is still involved with a certain amount of your cruise except with the 1 to 1 linkage. You starting to get the picture? There's more than one way to skin a cat. I haven't even gotten into the emulsion jets yet. In conclusion.. I really don't think Mark is your problem, one has to tune every engine based on what it needs for what it's entended to do. You're doing 2 things that work pretty much in different directions. As to Mark, I have never met him never used his carbs, only read his long list of information about e85 carbs. Several of my racing clients have used him without any big issues. Ps. In order for myself to give you any better info one needs more info. Like have no idea what compression ratio you have. If you r 13 to 1 I think your leaner than i would like at times. But also i prefer Lambda to AFR as it is more accurate especially when fuel is not consistent. A ps. to my ps. You cannot check the moisture content in your so called e85 with that little checker. Your alcohol can be saturated with who knows how much water? No carb tuner can account for that big difference. Good luck with your project.
