- Lighting a night scene can be overwhelming, here's a way I quick and simply lit these night shots from a recent film.

This is why love watching Brady, he just knows how to make things so simple and epically for filmmakers who are making stuff on a budget. I’ve a shoot happening next month over in Italy (I’m Northern Ireland based) and have little lighting gear to use but this has just helped me know that it’s still possible to create shots like this with a limited lighting package. It also really shows how you don’t need a massive lighting setup to make shots like these happen.

Hey Brady! Love your stuff! Hope maybe you can break down lugging around lights as a 1 man film crew. Been thinking of getting a hard case or do you have any bag suggestion? I use the Amaran 300c and some pavotubes though also thinking of getting a 150c
Travel wise I don’t have the best kit for carrying lights honestly, but I know online people have tons of posts and forums about case builds for traveling work!

Will somebody smarter than me answer this question I have?
If he had complete control of every light's color temperature, what was the need to set the camera's color temperature to 4000k? My thinking is: If the camera is being set to 4000k in order to bring all the lights' temperature up from the 2700k they're all set at, why not just have the lights set to 4300k (or whatever temperature you want then to read as) and keep the camera at 5600k? Would this method achieve a different effect somehow?
Not trying to be rude or anything. I'm just genuinely unclear as to the why behind this.
Because thier probably using Luts on their monitor so the goal is to get it looking good in camera skin tones included.
I guess you could certainly do that, and probably get the same result, but that’s ONLY if, there are absolutely no other lights or outdoor practicals casting light
@@BradyBessette Sure. The scene just looks like it was either shot at night or everything was blacked out well, so I didn't see any additional lights anywhere. Thanks for the reply.
@festivisionstudios8789 How would using luts on the monitor affect what I'm asking about? My confusion comes from the fact that it would look the same in camera in either of the scenarios I described in my question.
@@nickcaldwell9154 I just think him doing it in camera made it simple and convenient ....when you have actors on set you cant be constantly tweaking light colors

The light was great but the camera movement and shot was unrealistic and chunky. A mom would have pivoted on her hips, switched the glass to the other hand , put it down on the same opposing counter and faced her child head on. A great opportunity for a super panning roll shot change with story telling. This was more like stage set.
You’re right. I also found it distracting that the mom character was looking up at the overhead light on a couple of occasions. Maybe attempting to use the light as a blocking source. Didn’t come across natural.
Exactly what I was thinking. This it the exact reason why you need to think about your scene first: try to let your actors play and see where it goes if possible; where they stand, where they face each other , how they move around the space on instict, etc.
Only than really, can a cinematographer come in and alter based on a frame they have in mind.
Like you said, this felt like he placed the actor into the square box stage play and restricted their acting, only for the light.
Cinematography tutorials like this should spend an equal time on blocking a scene with actors and thinking about acting than on lighting.

It could be just me but these shots look terribly lit. The background to key ratios look way way off and everything looks overly lit??! Way too many lights. The videographer seems to talk as if he believes he knows what he is talking about and has intentionally tried to do all this but the results to my eye look all wrong. Just dont understand. Even the to camera video is lit so badly?! Makes no sense to me.
