You've managed to teach core concepts (spaces not faces), workflow (expose for practical light, then environment, then talent), technique (diffuse and flag off), and efficiency (cove light for daylight bounce and also for evening lighting). In 16 minutes I feel like I should be bringing a notebook. Well done, Brady!
this is, BY FAR, one of the most insane breakdowns i have ever seen here. its unbelievable just how in-depth you broke down each step. thanks so much for putting in this much effort!! your work is gold for this community!!
Great video as always! One thing I notice though, is that a lot of cinematographers on RUclips seem to really speak about how hard light is ugly or we should avoid using it to light the subject. I really think this is all down to the look you want to achieve and actually hard light can look phenomenal- if you haven’t seen The Tragedy of Macbeth (2021) this is a masterclass in hard light by Bruno Delbonnel
Hey! I've seen Kevin on Aputures channel. I loved the way he used his lights to simulate a meteor crash in that one video! Also, I love how sublty you used these lights in the night scene to feel real and comfortable but still cinematic and magical!
Wow really informative. The bts Charles got of your guys’ setup was really cool. I agree about the use of shadows and being more comfortable with not having everything lit, I’ve been drawn to as well. This was a super helpful video showing movement too! Thx Brady for another great video:)
I think that little flag you had once you sat down was a magic cloth fabric! Great video and education as always, looks like y’all had a ton a fun together
You have really helped me up my lighting game, so thank you! I have 3 questions: 1) have you found a good case or system to travel with all that gear? 2) I film weddings and would like to light the bridal suite a little better. What do you feel like would be a simple and consistent solution to lighting a variety of spaces like that? 3) Do you have any tips for lighting placement when there are mirrors involved? When I try to do a far side key, you see the light in the shot.
Great video. I think it would be great (and help) if you could make a video about shooting a night scene during the day. I mean you kinda got into it with the Color Temperature video, but I think you have more tricks for that scenario.
@Brady Bessette Thank you as always for so much great info for free, if there is an award you can get for doing this I wish it for you my friend!!! * side note I know you have a list of the equipment used for this video listed in the description, but what are some of your go to must have lighting solutions. I have a pretty decent budget for some nicer ones, but I can’t decide. Don’t worry, if you have an affiliate link I can use I will use them, to help and support you.
@@BradyBessette your the man! I am really digging these Aputure Amaran MC RGBWW Lights, I looked at the whole charging case kit like hmmm 🤔 maybe, lol. I recently got to use the Nova, and man that is like the surface of the sun. I am going to send you a link of the video, when it is done to check it out.
Great videos. I see you putting A 600d with a spotlight mount on a c-stand a lot. Have you ever had issues with this? Seems a little sketchy to me. Seems like a combo stand is more appropriate Just curious. Thanks
Hey Brady- what would be the (2) Aperture lights you would recommend? (1k budget) I’m just starting my to build my light gear. Also, what are the essential add on’s you’d recommend?
Insane Vid Brady, thanks! Just two questions: - the lens used was an Helios 58? - what about the camera wb for both daylight and night scene? Thank you!
It sounds like the audience for this type of video leans more towards the wealthy amateur or the professional with all the lights at their disposal. This comparison format is great. While I understand advertising is kind of built into the videos you make, is there room to provide a comparison of budget/work-with-what-you-got equipment vs pro-grade equipment?
@@BradyBessette Sounds great! I hope that didn't come across criticizing this video, it is very well put together and does the job. Rather, encouraging the comparison format of your videos, as it does a great job of exposing some good concepts.
Brady, do you have my damn class schedule??? I'm in Collins right now taking a lighting class and our assignment for this week is literally called "day and night". We have to light a scene and make it look like it's daytime and then relight it to make it look like it's night time. Haha thanks for the help
@@BradyBessette Thank you, I can see it 12:58 now, though you did something else because it looks like the gel is covering so much of the inside of the softbox.
This is something I noticed they messed up on in Mad Max fury road. The night shots have reflections that are way too bright on the actors faces way more than the moon would ever produce. It makes it very obvious that it was a bright day shot that was just color corrected
Lowkey hate you because if I light my scene with any lighting lower than like 12 lamps and a big overhead light I get hella noise, and I still get noise with all that lighting. Literally have my aperture as open as possible and my shutter as long as possible but I still have noise
OK I appreciate the effort, but I kinda didn't like it, I always like your cinematography and wait patiently for the next video, but this was not what I like to watch from this channel, it's almost like I'm watching an aputure's meh tutorials, sorry dude but I think you can do better than this, again appreciate the effort but it's not my favorite.

Agree. Thanks man!
Pausing at 13:06 to remember this textbook example of motivated lighting. Sweet.

Absolutely legendary video man. Thank you for this! So many great concept taught in here in a comprehensive, helpful way! I’m a new sub for sure
Truly one of your best video Brady! Thank you 🙏
That’s amazing thank you Thomas!
Another helpful video. You are the king of light
That warms my heart thank you!!
Amazing behind the scenes tutorial. True, realistic passion for the subject being discussed! So good man!
Hey John! Thank you so much.
Those scenes are beautiful! I love how day and night scenes evoke such different moods... I do love me some night scenes, especially. :D
Thanks so much Jazz!!
Ayyeee... a crossover! Haven't even started watching but i'm already psyched for the BradyxKevin combo!🔥🔥

Professor Brady you've listened to my request/s! Thanks a bunch and as always, I love ya!
More power to you good sir!

Love your videos man. Really helped me to light more cinematically. I always struggled with room tone and night shots. Thank you thank you thank you!!
102K subs!!! Congrats Brady, that was a quick jump from 86K!! :D
Thank you so much! And I know right?? It’s crazy
Great stuff as always! Sending a little extra love your way for Kevin Reyes!

This is such a great channel, and loving all the step by step lighting methods! Really helpful, thanks a tonn! 🙏🏻
Love this video! I’m still very new to learning lighting for filmmaking, and I think this video was very helpful and inspiring for me!
Brady, this is the type of video I love. Thanks for that. Well done 🔥🔥🔥

Once I have started watching your videos ( a couple of weeks ago) I have learnt more than I did in the past couple of years 😂

Nice bro good vid heaps of info and well explained.

I like the lighting setup where u were sitting in front of ur pc and explain whole thing. Is there tutorial for that?

Great vid bud very informative , could I ask what camera WB kelvin you used for the night interior shoot?
Brady has been working for sure. I thought this YT channel was rated PG, bro. 🤣
Ahhahaha sorry!! Thanks for the support🤣
😎👍🏼 Hey Brady awesome tutorial!! Quick question, do you meter any of your light set ups? 😎👍🏼

the shot at 3:13 is triggering my anxiety having the 600d just dangling on the spotlight mount there
I’m sorry!!!!

Just two questions:

It was a Leica R 50,
And WB was 6000 for day and 4500 for night. Thank you so much!!

Where do you get that unbleached muslin?

@@BradyBessette lol! Can't wait!!! Btw love your work 🤩🤩
How did you guys gel the softbox? I know you can't use the gel holder with the 600d cause it will burn the filters? Did you clamp it? Or use tape?
We used the gel holder since it was at no more than 1%!
@@BradyBessette Thank you, I can see it 12:58 now, though you did something else because it looks like the gel is covering so much of the inside of the softbox.

Yeah you do see at times just a day shot graded
Can someone tell me what the remote monitor is?
I'm in need.
Teradek to smallhd cine7 monitor!

Thanks Brady.
You the man.
just a quick question, are the contrast level on the daylight record scene meant to be that high
I did like the look yes
Brady is mean and doesn't treat me nicely but I love him still :)
That’s not true kevin and we know it
@@BradyBessette 😘😘😘
Just spent money on a nova 300 and now I feel like I need a 600d😞
The old Sofhob (soft on face hard on body) technique does it again. Wandering DP is reaching far and wide.
i know kevin from aputure

Coffee? Wine?
Beer?
Lighting in the wide daylight shot doesn’t match with the close up shot. Too much neg on the record player close up!
