Mop Fly VS Squirmy Worm (Stocked Trout)
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 12 мар 2022
- Arguably two of the best stocked trout flies The Squirmy worm and The mop Fly. At first i didnt think the mop fly was going to be able to catch up but after a couple of fish it ended up being closer than i thought. In the end the squirmy wormy won out being the better of the two stocked trout flies.

You're a rock star for hitting it in the rain right before snow. That just looks freezing.
Thank you
Nice video, I swear I looked at the water and said you're either in PA or VA, looks so much like our water here in VA! I've never thrown a mop fly or squirmy but always heard when all else fails for the stockers, these never fail.
Haha isn’t that funny how you can just tell sometimes? Yeah they seem quite effective at catching stockers and I even hooked into a wild brown!
My son got me hooked on ice fishing, seems every lake and pond out here have trout.Looks like you had a good day! great video!!
Thank you. How’d you guys do this year I’ve fishing?
@@thebesthunter69 We've been doing really well on lakers, browns and rainbows. We're from s.e. colorado. did a lot of hunting in susq. county when i lived in ny.
Awesome man!
Drove an hour to get this vid?! Amazing content, you got yourself another subscriber. Keep up the dedication
Thank you!!
Same, I'm down like four flats on a Cadillac for fishing whenever and this guy is a vibe with just getting out there. An hour, in the snow, over a mountain, just to hit a favorite fishing hole for a few minutes.
I dig it. Subscribed.
Another banger of a video love the fly fishing! Had a question for ya by squiggly worm is that also a San Juan worm by chance? I haven’t been as active fly fishing as I used to be but plan on getting back into it again this year.
Honestly I don’t know. I don’t think they are the same tho. But thanks for the kind words
San juan worm is made with chennile, the squirmy is more of a soft plastic kinda like a powerbait. I find the squirmy has more action in the water but they both kill it for literally anything. Ive caught brookies, carp, smallmouth and norhern pike on both. Cant go wrong.
I’m new at fly fishing. Can share what was the fly setup?
Great video
Nice vid! Are you using an indicator or tight lining? Also, how far apart are both flies?
This setup is my euro setup. If I had to estimate the distance apart I would guess less than 12 inches. I wanted them pretty close so that the fish would have to choose between the two of them to eat.
Awesome video buddy
Thank you!
Love the video dude!
Do you have a tutorial on how to tie your squirmy worm?! I'm a new tier and looking for ideas/advice!
Thanks and have a great weekend!
Thanks brother! I don’t have a tutorial on it yet I’m planning doing a bunch of them tho this winter once hunting season is over. Got a bunch of flies I tie is like to do tutorials for
@@thebesthunter69 Right on! Good luck with the hunt. Hunting season is going on over here in the PNW! I'm still hitting creeks in Idaho tho and slowly building the fly tying supplies to give me something to do when the snow starts flying! You need to head west when hou can and check out this country over here!
Be well!!
@@69adrummer it’s for sure on my bucket list. The wife and I are planning a fly fishing trip to Montana at some point.
Nice video. What other colors do you fish the squirmy worm in
Honestly only pink 😂
Thank you. Nice video. What state are you fishing in. Adirondacks in NY for me
what size mop fly and squirmy worm do you recomend?
I don’t really have a great recommendation for that to be honest.
What is your rod and real setup?
Rod Orvis Clearwater 10’ 3 wt and the reel is Piscifun Sword
I find that the squirmy worms will get hit but they don't last for anything. Panfish just rip the tail right off them. For the price I just can't justify buying them. The San Juan does just as well and is infinity more reusable. Maybe if I am trying my own it's more cost effective.
I tie all my own flies which helps with cost. But I’ve never had any rip before.
@@thebesthunter69 I may have bought some that were made with weaker material then. That or bluegill are just bastards. Lol
What part of pa are you in?
I live in Berks county
Nice I'm in centre
@@jordanevans7988 I think I’m gunna be out there for the trout opener this year. Penns creek or spring creek most likely.
Recently stocked trout will hit pocket lint tied on a hook!!!
Squirmy worms always do best with rainbows IMO.
I figured it would they have probably seen a worm before in their lives
Squirmy worm for the win for me
Video is old not sure if you’ll see this I’m confused on how you use these. Does this work like a nymph or what hahahah
Yep you can tight line them or use an indicator
To do a real competition both flies need to be the same color. Everyone knows rainbows prefer pink over about anything else lol😂
We're from S W colorado, moved out here 6 yr. ago to be with my grand kids. Your hunting videos make me home sick!
Well I certainly hope you do enjoy them all!
