I think you showed the lorry under the sheet at the end of the video a Scammell Routeman and the lorry that needed a cab was a Ford D series not a Bedford being a old fart I can remember the old Lorries excellent video yet again thanks Chris
I used to drive an ERF with an Eaton twin splitter for James Irlams (now part of Stobarts) The first time I jumped in I jumped straight back out and asked another driver "what do you do with that"pointing to the gear lever.he took me up the yard and showed me once how to use it and then I was on me own.I don't know how I didn't break it that first shift but after a few days I absolutely loved it!!!!
Hi Chris. That D series is a ford. I used to drive one at a tool hire company it was a beaver tail. It had no power steering, turning it around in our yard I had to put my feet on the dashboard and pull the steering. Bloody hard work. Love your vids mate. Keep up the great work. Paul from Surrey
Haha, yes!, I remember the D series Fords. The brakes where comical !, air over hydraulic, press the pedal to slow down……., nothing, press a little harder…. Nothing !,….. press more before you hit some thing and….., BOOM……!, ALL of the brakes, and you almost went through the windscreen. 😂😂😂. The Ford Cargo, which came after the D series was just as bad. Still better tHan than the Bedford TK to work on though, at least the Fords had a tilt cab. Fun times back then…, with lots of swearing. 😂😂
Orete Chris, new subscribers, been working our way through all ya vids this weekend. Sad hey?! Lol. Great vids, top bloke, lovely family. Lou and Chris
Seddon Atkinson I think keep up the good work Chris my dad been a lorry driver for years and my Grandad was for Ernest Thorpe but sadly gone now last year he was the last drivers to go when they finished sad times
brilliant video Chris/suspect misfire is wiring on injections small loom . truck under tarp is a scamell l've been struggling for 35 years 😢 love your videos true reflection of what we do every day 24/ 7 keep struggling mate 😊
One of your best Chris , I like Joe , cool driver . I remember in my day missing a gear or two with the Eaton box , I used to try and get 2 gears down cause I usually missed the first 😂 I was more a Volvo and Merc guy though . I’ve had the Ford D series too , the piston hit the head near Weston super mare , new engine fitted ! Also had a Leyland Sherpa , hit a telegraph pole in the snow at night near ludlow with that one . The good old days ! Cheers Chris .
Great memories of the Eaton Twinsplitter gearbox, First wagon I drive was a E series E10 4x2 with Twinsplitter box, drove B,C, E series ERF,Fodens Fixed them Bent them Drove them Real trucks and simple and cheap to fix…
Just spent one week driving an artic instead of in the workshop, clean, dry, light work, .. tbh i dont miss tools one bit, i see why there is a big shortage of mechanics, ... thoughts chris. ?
Another fantastic vid Chris. Watching on Sunday morning with hang overs and now we are cured!! Best bottle it m8. All the best to you and yours Gaz and Shez.
What a lovely old show, some beautiful old truck Joe has there, remember driving most of those, first time I drove an ERF, kept wanting to change with the stick, instead of using the split in each gear😂, the old leyland is a road train or a Marathon, love the videos Chris looking forward to the next Struggle 😊, wooo wooo👍
Best truck I had on the tippers was a Paccar Foden 8 legger with a 400 cat in it, 12 speed with a Jake , pulled up the hills like a train, drank fuel like a alcoholic at a brewery……😂😂😂
So I'm sat here in my new professional struggler hoodie supping a cuppa from my new professional struggler cup, loving yet more quality stuff from the man Love it
Hi Chris, great video, there is a bloke up our way (wrexham) that has got sheds full of ERF's, they say if u go to take a lunch box with you cus it will take all day to go round them all,if there was a way to put pictures on here i would show them, my guess, the truck that is covered up in the video is a Scammel, keep up the great work, love your videos.
Eaton twin splitter was a proper gearbox, only use clutch to pull away and stop then skills all the way.We had an 8 wheeler Iveco trakker that was actually a sedan Atkinson underneath good old truck. I drove it for two years round our way on muck away all hills and only missed a gear twice!! Like joe said if you didn’t catch it you was back to bottom of box and start again😮 I was only a youngster and there was loads of older drivers couldn’t drive it. My old man always said you had to be at one with any lorry but with the Eaton twin splitter you really had to be at one with the truck then and only then could you drive it well. My boys loved it she had an eminox exhaust and when you floored her a plume of black smoke would come out with little breaks in it when you changed gear 😂😂😂😂😂 they’d be hanging out the passenger window to watch it 😂😂😂😂😂😂 good old days 😂😂 another cracking video Chris whoop whoop 😂😂😂 Cheers Nick
Morning Chris 🌞, I hope youre well ....what an awesome yard that is. A treasure trove of goodies....vehicles and awesome projects ....not many like that as you need plenty of room for a stable of beauties like that. Have a good weekend mate ...hope fully enjoy a couple of days without a wet back or sore knees! Catch you soon , be safe , be kind G 🦉🦉🙏
Gary got your parcel the other day😊 it’s amazing love it, thanks mate it’s standing proud above my head in the bus 👌 cheers again mate and say thanks to the missis from me to 🙏🤗
Brilliant 👏 what a guy Joe is its definitely in his blood same as a lot of us been round haulage and trucks all are life hope someone can solve the problem with the foden.
Hi Chris love your videos. I think Joe's truck undercover is a Leyland buffalo or a marathon dying to know. You have got me thinking now. My older brother had a leyland twin splitter got booked in Newport on the m4 doing 90 odd mph no limiter. What a lorry that was. Thanks mark.😁
Not sure of the set up on these old ERF's bud I've had a 3 cylinder misfire on a scania with electronic injection. My understanding is "bank 1" is cylinders 1,2,3 "bank 2" is 5,4,6. One of the injectors had a dead short across the coil. To diagnose it I unplugged each injector 1 by 1 until the misfire went to a single cylinder instead of 3. Worth a shot if you're up there 1 weekend, keep on struggling chris! 👍
Great video chris them old trucks takes me back to when my old man worked at NCB transport on the erf and Leyland road trains .keep on struggling pal 👍👏😋
Ayup Chris . I reckon the unit under sheet is a Leyland Scammel. It looks to be a 1979/80’s truck with possibly a fuel truck with the exhaust under slung. Cheers Steve ( old fart)
Hi mate Here's one for you had an mot on a daft yesterday started it to leave emissions failure light came ,didn't know that if the engine management light is not on its still a pass happy days All the best Rob
Hi Chris, just found you this week, love the old lorrys, done my apprenticeship with foden, i would head for injector wiring first, little ring terminals that bolt on top the injector, may look ok but get poor connection, if your lucky terminal will smoke when running leading you straight to it, good juck 😊
Class video Chris. Amazing how many knowledgeable blokes out there doing there bit to ensure that many old trucks have a useful retirement rather than ending up on the scrap heap.
Hi Chris love the video with the old lorrys as my dad was a lorry mechanic he worked on erf fodons and scammalls brings back childhood memories often in the yard with him👍
Hi chris, great video as always, great to see all the old school stuff in that yard especially the old school Foden😉😉have a good week ahead and hopefully it's not to much of a struggle 🤔🙈🤣🤣👍
First wagon "that's what we called them lol" i drove was a long wheel based Leyland terrier with a hijab on the tail no power steering picking bins of cullet "scrap glass" up from around the north west glass cutting shops, that terrier give me nightmares and put me driving for life lol, good video Chris love looking at this good old stuff..
Fantastic video dude, always great to see people's work in progress it makes my struggles with my old ford cargos look alittle more worth while, I was in partic Worksop this week and the lad in there was up from Newark and he said it's always a laugh when you go in dude lol
Watched your video on the truck museum and I think you might have given a big clue in the process of showing some old photos. I think it shows the mystery truck under the tarp Keep up the good work from an old diesel fitter from the AEC and Leyland era
Hey Chris…..possibly a Leyland Bison under that tarp in the shed…..👍😜🇮🇲. I cut my teeth on an Eaton Twin splitter box, on a scammell badged Leyland S26. 8 legger ….bugger if you missed a gear up hill, just like Joe said……you soon learn….👍👌😜
That flappy disc gets you out of some trouble, don't it 😂 life would be an even bigger struggle without it!!!! 😂 keep the fantastic content coming, I love how honest and humble you are, Good work Chris, also loved the shooting struggle, haha.
Hi Chris , I'd say that truck under the cover is a scamell , I seem to recall that the fodens had a collar on the injections that used to come loose and cause a miss fire . Maybe wrong tho been a while back
What a guy ! We need more like him....... It's a fact that when computers fry with the global warming those 40+ year old ERF's will fire up and do exactly what they did at one year old ! 🤣
Also, under the sheet..... A scammell.... ? Can't think of it's name..... As for the Sherpa...... it later became the LDV Pilot....and I have one one my channel
Absolutely love you're vids Chris. Such a grafter and all you're family are aswell. I'm up in a shit hole called Huntly in Aberdeenshire North East Scotland, and I work wi a boy from Newark. He remembers those wagons in the yard of the companies down there. His dad use to drive for butterly bricks. Not sure if u remember them. Keep up the good work my man and keep on strugglin on with a smile on yer face.
This video has made me feel old. I started off driving Leyland road trains and ERF Ec11. At least you never have to worry about the cab rotting with the ERF.
I think you showed the lorry under the sheet at the end of the video a Scammell Routeman and the lorry that needed a cab was a Ford D series not a Bedford being a old fart I can remember the old Lorries excellent video yet again thanks Chris
What a cracking set of mates you have Chris, all up for a bit of banter and good fun. It does my heart good to see the way you all interact.
Yeah there good mate! Nice everyday people in real life 👌
I used to drive an ERF with an Eaton twin splitter for James Irlams (now part of Stobarts) The first time I jumped in I jumped straight back out and asked another driver "what do you do with that"pointing to the gear lever.he took me up the yard and showed me once how to use it and then I was on me own.I don't know how I didn't break it that first shift but after a few days I absolutely loved it!!!!
Yeah remember Irlams mate! Don’t think they would do that now days! There not allowed to learn by there mistakes! 🤷♂️
That lorry is a D series tilt cab ford ,not a Bedford I bought 14 of these one day from mothers pride in hull.
i was gonna say it was a ford d series i used to drive one for marlborough roadways back in the 90's , we called it the beast lol
D800
It's no older than 1978 as it's a facelift model which had the square headlamps.
@@alananderson6812 it could be as I had one with the metal ribbed front round headlight and I converted to plastic front, square headlights.
@@tutsywutsy you can see the end of the number plate, Looks like a 'v' reg. so 79 -80 ?
Chris I think the lorry under the canvas sheet is a Leyland Marathon
Hi Chris. That D series is a ford. I used to drive one at a tool hire company it was a beaver tail. It had no power steering, turning it around in our yard I had to put my feet on the dashboard and pull the steering. Bloody hard work. Love your vids mate. Keep up the great work. Paul from Surrey

Thanks
Oh aye we’re having that, ERF E series, a Sherpa van and a Ford D series, proper motors!! ERF = Everything Running Fine
check for oil up the wiring loom seen as them injectors are submerged in oil. Could be a seals gone on the plugs onto the injectors.

thats a scammell under the tarp, possibly a routeman.
Great Joe is a top guy, some beautiful wagons lets hope he can sort the misfire out.
