- Cyrus Pireh @cyruspireh is an unbelievable guitarist from Detroit, MI. He absolutely blew my mind with his performance of "If I can play fast enough it will turn into food and shelter": • Cyrus Pireh- "If I Can...
I had to interview him! So, here it is. We discuss a guitar amp-in-a-medicine-bottle that Robert Fripp ended up acquiring, Cyrus' unusual 9-string guitars, using a spoon as a low frequency oscillator, and fingernail technique.
He is a new favorite of mine!

Thank you again, Anthony! It was so great to get the chance to sit down with you and talk guitar! Thank you for all the work you do on this channel! Sending you and your audience many positive vibes!!
Nice to see you getting some recognition, Friend.
I like it. I think this style would sound great with a full band. I'd love to hear him solo over a "normal" backing track. Blending weird & normal styles of music often yields interesting results. A weird instrument or solo can make a "normal" song stand out & be more exciting. On the flip side, a little bit of "normal" can make weird music a lot more accessible.
Cyrus is one of those players that you either get, or you don't. I get it. I personally love some of his other tracks more, but they all have one thing in common. His songs breaks away from all convention and predispositions of what guitar playing is supposed to be. His music is a greater artistic expression than what 99% of other guitar players are doing. He is reaching out into a new place and it's impossible for anyone to do that without raising eyebrows all around. Right or wrong, I'm voting in favor of what Cyrus is doing. He is pushing boundaries, he is putting himself out there and he is unashamed of his art. Best of all, the spirit of improvisation - the best aspect of all music - is alive and well in each performance. Spending an evening exploring Cyrus and his music is time well spent. Don't expect a normal listening experience. I suggest going into it with a meditative state of mind.
I agree. I think he is exceptional - in the truest definition of the word
Yknow, i don't like everything he does, but my only real gripe is the fuzz tone he uses...but man, he still manages to convey a wide swath of emotion, and you can still tell there is BEAUTIFUL playing underneath the white noise. IMHO, music is fundamentally about expression, and he is 1000% succesful at doing that. He's definitely set a bar for picking technique.
Cyrus, my man! Glad to see him on this channel. I recommend everyone to check out his other videos. He regularly uploads playing sessions and you can watch him progress and refine his songs. Some of them are very complete and genuinely amazing.
I love how he's established a daily practice discipline on YT
I've been following Cyrus for close to a year now here on RUclips and to me, his music is music that takes such full advantage of the guitar as an instrument and everything that can be done with it. It's an absolute joy to watch him play
And he's such a character. So fun.
It's closer to dynamic tension than picking. Creating muscle tension to induce vibration
I don't care what it's called, the guy is astounding. :)
Using our instruments as a meditative connection to people and consciousness within the space we occupy and humor, for me,is what it's about. Thanks Anthony. This man is ANOTHER genuine Human being dedicated to his work and his connection with others.✌️🤓
Agreed. Glad you enjoyed it.
Definitely valid. Great right hand technique. Good reference for whatever strings he uses.
He's really a virtuoso, but few recognize what it takes to do what he does
You know what? I just accidentally watched this on 1.5 speed!!!
Also Cyrus lived in Minneapolis for awhile, and I haven’t found anyone that knows him yet. I’ll share this and see if anyone pipes up!
LOL. It's hard to tell if you're at 1x or 1.5x with Cyrus
@@MakeWeirdMusic haaaa!!!
The spoon technique theories are interesting. Thanks for introducing him. Great stuff.
I love how he thinks the other way 'round
dang, that's awesome stuff. I imagine live it would be even better with crazy overtones. (I love drone.)
Agreed. I wish I could see him live
Off for a shower, I'll be humming this all day now!
A real toe-tapper
Love it. Music can be anything. It should be more than what we think of as ‘normal.’ Am I going to put this on when I’m making breakfast on a Sunday morning? No. But I will listen to more of his stuff for sure.
Exactly
That outro piece is the bomb!
Thanks! ruclips.net/video/yIRDk_GOROk/видео.html
As a metal guy I approve of this tremolo-picking; or should we call it tremolo-twitching? The last piece was awesome, a lot of weird funk going on...
Yeah, he is really out there. I love it
I make weird music also .
I love everything you do.
Thank you!
Gurdjieff!
Gurdjieff playing Metal Machine Music
LOL
Cyrus is the man!!
Agreed
After seeing his record collection, I totally get it. I have been making weird music since before the internet. Nobody cared.
when I was more of a practicing drummer, I used a "twitching" motion on my right foot to try and do my Bonham impressions (aka steal lol) - needed my right foot like a pair of maraccas
I love he is on an oldskool phone
What a character!
This dude is amazing. Even it's personality using an antique phone for a videocall. Just wishing his mic sound a little bit better cus it kinda hurts lol
I love that the quality isn't good
The second piece was pretty cool. I can appreciate the technique he employed on the first piece but that composition was definitely not my thing lol
Man, I get that. I don't think it's for everyone, for sure.
5 strings - I've often thought about Fripp's NST tuning, but just leaving the High G off - just leave the CGDAE and play with only those strings. Seems to make sense to me.
I've thought that too! Or just shift all the strings down and add a low F
Man I love this channel.
Hah. Thank you!
I wish he would play King Crimson -Red.
Very interesting 🤔
Glad you think so!
Sounds like OV by Orthrelm
Right? Or does anyone remember a guitarist from the 1980's named Rudolph Gray?
I have to look into these names!
@@MakeWeirdMusic Orthrelm is a project by Colin Marston (Krallice, Behold the Arctopus), and Rudolph Gray might be very hard to find - very obscure guitarist from the NY "Skronk" scene in the early 1990's.
What's with the old telephone? Inside joke?
He’s just a unique guy
@@MakeWeirdMusicAha
Brilliant!
Glad you dig it
Hmmm
🤔
Interesting process....very uninteresting results.....
I assure you, the results are interesting. Just gotta be in the right mood
Nope.
Hahaha, perfectly reasonable response!
15 sec of that crap was enough
grindcore bands have actually 15 sec songs with such guitars
