Love an e38! Definitely coilovers, m parallels, fully black interior, and an alpina lip. Then start a trade up series, that would be good to see

Lovely looking E38! One thing, to read all the codes from every ECU in these older BMWs you need to use the round connector in the engine bay, it requires an adapter but will read out a shitload more ECUs and properly read the engine and transmission ones.
if I remember correctly all the facelift models of the e38 had obd connectors instead of the 20pin and it's behind a little cover that pops out by the cup holder

Alpina front splitter is the most common one but AC Schnitzer also make splitters. I would drop it on a set of ultra low BC coilovers (they make a set for these) and put some fake splits on it like a Dare wheel. do a budget bling build. sort the paint. get it machine polished. tints all round ... and then turbo it or fit a supercharger

M-parallels, tidy up the front end suspension (control arm bushings, tie rod ends, end links), new rubber and DRIVE IT. I have had all manner of cars and it is one of my favourites.
E38's are so nice been wanting one for a while! As much as I like E38's the trade up series sounds so cool and a lot of fun!
get it slammed mate and go full vip spec, it would look sick with that interior as well , the two tone is class
Lower it a bit, put a lip on it with a set of Style 37's. Fettle with the exhaust and enjoy it. Always attention worthy cars when clean!

I'm not sure how true this is but I've heard the 4.4 V8 is actually more like 305bhp, as they developed it in the 90s (they just claimed the same as the old 4.0 as to make the upcoming M5 in 2000 look better and more powerful), over 100hp extra on the M5 looks better than like 95 extra 👍
Just brought a 740i sport on Sunday . You boiz need to source the 3.15 diff makes a huge difference to the acceleration at the low end. You know for when you kick down around a corner for some fun
A set of M-Parallels, front lip spoiler, nice exhaust and a polish then it'd look sick. There's a set of M-Parallels on ebay for £200 right now...

Get it sent on some prosports, no preload on springs, cut cats out, alpina lip, m paras and Quaker oat fitment on the rear, jobs a carrot
Coilovers, cat back, fix the paint/panels, nice front lip, black grills!! Clean sleeper
If you were gonna keep it I'd say restomod GT daily. Mid exhaust, nothing too crazy, and upgrade the tech to current standards, and then just clean and tart it up a bit. However, that 'flip cars and trade up' sounds sick so definitely do that. Even just flipping cheap cars for profit would be fun to see, just for the variety. Could TopGear it, buy a couple of cheap shitters, do a roadtrip, and then try to get all or some of the money back at the end. Maybe not with current fuel prices though.

Haha sick man, I just bought a 2000 540i in individual sepia violet metallic and cremeweiss interior which is basically cream seats/ headliner with blue carpet/dash/door cards/ piping, beautiful spec

7:26 the TV will need an upgrade to digital (places about that do it), with the phone a sim card will work as long as it's any network but Three (I have an E39 with basically the exact same spec Inc the 2 tone lol), my E46 also has that same old skool sat nav / TV - it's all run by a DVD in a drive in the boot which is super weird lol

you get can a rep alpina lip from ebay for fairly cheap, makes the front end look proper tidy

try and flip it for the most profit, a trade up type thing. Good detail will increase the value buckets
Best 7 series ever made and still looks the best out them all! I'd say lower it, fix all the paint back to spec, a nice set of OEM M wheels, manual swap, nice exhaust, full service and u'll have a gangster of a car!
About time people started buying e38s lol I got mine from Japan 4 years ago with 89k Km and haven’t been happier
Are you sure it's a 2001? It's weird the shadow line is matte black not body colour & the phone in 2001 was a hand held flip phone not a corded.
I'd also check the ecu through the engine bay obd aswel not just the interior one
Definitely get a alpina style front lip non writing imo
Also no.1 thing is check the timing guides asap
A fix up and sell on series sounds sick! Love this car, I keep it fairly stock, clean it up a bit and it'll look bad ass

Man I'd love to see a trade up series, tidy this up with some tasteful mods (M-Parallels, coilovers, Alpina style front lip) and just keep trading it up til you get an attainable dream car.

Have a look at 777 garage on here if you haven't already. Eddie knows these cars inside out and has probably got a lot of the things you'd want - think he lives near Bath but could be wrong.
I reckon slam the shit out of it, m paras, straight through (they sound insane) and any alpina/schnitzer bits you can get your hands on!
The idea of trading up sounds quite good. Potentially find yourselves a nice older car like a Mazda Cosmo. Never know what people's sheds and garages are hiding.

Don't just do a muffler delete, get a proper exhaust. The auto trans make it drone like crazy. Sound awesome otherwise.

me personally what i would do is complete the rest of the jobs (if any at all ) then sell on and work upto something like a dream car ( for me that would be an rx7)
I did have the E38 740i but I couldn't afford to run it, so I bought a 728i Sport and even that's expensive. One question? What did you plug the Carly into? As it's got a 20 pin connector under the bonnet or how did you get the readings to your phone. Cheers.
The 2001 E38 has both OBD connectors. The OBD2 connector is beside the cupholders under a removable flap
