Hey guys, what size was that Hammerhead Shark? Lots of sharks at the inlet as of late. 😳
I would agree with Mike R Def not any smaller than 8!Also what is a given is the fact that those waters are packed to the Gills with other sharks..
My guess is 36” on the tarpon and 7-8’ on the hammerhead.
Probably 250 pounds. I used to catch them outside Port Everglades using 15lb Bonito as bait with a wire leader. Hammerhead seem to be opportunistic predators, feeding on the ebb tide near inlets. Released them of course but fascinating creature to see up close.
Tarpon approx. 48" HH 7'+ Tarpon is a bit more than 50% of the length of the HH. On a side note, I had a HH swim up to me and I threw a live pilchard at it and it scurried away like a lil' scared bunny
About 7-8 feet is my guess.
Fishing in the middle of a busy inlet is like walking your dog on the freeway in the middle of the day.
and putting his hands in the water instead of hooking it up with a fish gaff or a net?
@@teesamataua4028: I agree and I was thinking the same thing. I figured they didn't use a gaff because they were going to release the fish and they didn't want to injure it buy why they didn't use a net is even more puzzling.
@@sopmod556mm9 Big fish like this roll in nets and they get caught in the fins and gill plate creating chaos. I never use a net and would rather take the chance that the fish gets away.
googans are called googans for a reason.
@@sopmod556mm9 interesting that they possibly didn't want to injure the Fish. Yet, reeled it on against its will with a big hook in its mouth. Definitely some contradiction there.
Really great example of how NOT to treat a magnificent sportfish. Fishing in a dangerous area, and prolonging the fight until the fish was completely exhausted as well as endangering it with the proximity of the shark instead of just cutting it loose - all for the sake of a couple of close-up photos.
If that's a guide he should have his license pulled
Nailed it. My thoughts exactly.
@@StevenVincentSings Defiantly looks like a guide.
While I would agree, fish really dont have emotions. And those things are hard to fight. Center consoeles litterally exist to fight fish and let you walk around the whole boat. I used to sport fish but personally dont anymore, Id rather eat what I catch
@@TheMrLebaron But he's fishing in the inlet, restricting traffic. That's a no-no.
Others have commented but I have to chime in - list of things NOT to do:
-NEVER try to follow a hooked fish through a busy, dangerous inlet - they put every one in danger - themselves, other boaters and the fish
-If you are a sportsman, NEVER fight an exhausted fish that long because:
a. the fish is highly unlikely to survive even if it does manage to swim off
b. a fish that tired is called shark-bait. They just can't swim fast enough to evade and attack.
-NEVER fight a big fish from a small boat without a life jacket - just check out the many videos of people getting pulled overboard from much larger boats
-NEVER leave the helm unattended in the entire situation - Haulover, boat traffic, large active fish, stupid angler leaning far overboard, almost always off balance, active shark.
-NEVER hang over the side of the boat (with no life jackets and no one at the helm!) when there is an active shark in the area. Having a shark take a tarpon at boatside is COMMON and the shark doesn't bother with little details like what's fish and what's human arm.
-Neither the anglers nor most of the viewers have ever seen a shark take a tarpon. It is explosive, the take could easily rock the boat enough for the anglers to go over the side. It's common for sharks to take half a 6' tarpon in one bite. Sure, bigger shark than the one that got into the video but no-one should doubt that there are plenty of much larger sharks in the immediate area.
-ALWAYS assume that once you have attracted the attention of one shark, there are plenty of others that have come over to see what's going on
-How big was the tarpon? Well, as big as it was ever going to get because there is no way it survived that abuse.
Above all - CUT THE DAMN LINE immediately when you start to jeopardize the safety of the anglers, the rest of the boating public and the prize fish.
they weren't even prepared for this fishing trip, no net and no gaff hook.
Finally a sensible comment
That's Florida man for you.
@@frankienv3906 1. You don’t net a tarpon. You must leave them in the water. 2. No gaff because they’re not edible or even allowed to keep.
@@sweeptheleg. Somebody NOT from Florida, just some idiot out Fishing in a inlet. Completely wrong area to fish.
watching this clip really pisses me off, i'm an avid angler and to watch these to bozo's stress that trophy fish out like that was completely unnecessary, not only were they ill equipped but the tarpon should have been landed immediately, photos taken and returned for future anglers.....ROOKIES that got lucky!!
Stress it swam away you bonehead
Seriously? Are your delicate wittle feel feels hurt ? Oh that's a shame.
That was ridiculous... and I'm an avid fisherman. So it's not a "don't sport fish" issue. That was pure irresponsibility and idiots at large, captain and fisherman alike.
Yup they had no clue how to land a fish . Very frustrating to watch .
Totally agree these guys don’t have a clue to true sport fishing! If the guy is a charter boat captain then he should have his license revoked!

Watching those two try to release that fish was VERY frustrating!
How many photos do you need? Come on mannnnnn
From the looks of it they certainly weren't trying very hard to release it
A monkey humping a football is a greater success than these two
Feel very bad how that tarpon was handled. They were more interested in footage than actually releasing the fish. Why did it take them so long to dehook and revive it? I bet that fish did not survive, it was too exhausted to swim and seemed to be in shock. There were numerous times it could have been released much sooner.
Your'e right. It seemed like the guy in the orange shirt was scared of the fish or ignorant on how to fish, either way he was totally useless.
Why do you not ask the type of rod and line strength used ... any angler knows how much that affects the outcome, duration etc. when it comes to fishing larger game fish. Again this must be the 200th + ignorant comment on here. Bejesus, what are they putting in our tap water these days
@@JCMIAINTL it doesn't even matter what type of gear was used you don't fish in the inlet, let alone a dangerous inlet like Haulover, and you certainly do not fight a fish like this to pure shock. They spent way too much time worried about getting footage than actually releasing it correctly and the vast majority of competent fisherman would agree...foo.
Those fairies were too busy adjusting thier dresses to GTF'S. Shameful display.
So much disrespect to that tarpon.
I love this channel no stupid music or computer voice just the natural sound as if you were sat there 👍👍👍
What a magnificent fish, what cruel and ignorant humans they are. Couldn’t keep watching.
have you ever even fished and wound up with a fish like that on your line? beyond the over use of cameras instead of watching out for themselves, there was nothing on the fish side that was cruel in the slightest, in fact they acted as responsibly as possible towards the fish. They didnt haul it out for pics inducing more stress to the fish. They made sure to remove the tackle from the fish. They held the fish until it revived itself and was able to swim away under its own power. Exactly what was cruel to the fish?
The tortured time it took was unbelievable !!
Painful to watch, it’s one thing catching and releasing, but another when the amateurs take forever.🤦♂️
Absolutely, an example of what not to do on virtually every account. Captain is no friend of mine. lost my mind watching the incompetence play out.
Exactly! Looked like they where doing their best to kill the Tarpon. smdh
AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@ChipGarlock And can anyone say torture!!!!!

Incompetence at it's absolute worst.
I absolutely HATE guys that fish in an inlet. They pose a hazard to navigation and are generally just a nuisance. The worst are those that actually tie up to channel markers though.
The inlet is 370' wide and boats rarely go 100' on either side unless if they are PWC, fishing, or simply wish to avoid the wide center. Do you have any local knowledge regarding Baker's Haulover? Would love to hear back; howeevr, I believe I already know the answer ... prove me wrong please. :))
Depends on which inlet you are talking about, I fish Ponce Inlet. Much wider than Haulover inlet.
I'm looking for someone interested in business venture on RUclips. Lmk Ms
@@ralphdeshon9710 absolutely although lots of sand bars to run aground on unlike Baker's Haulover which has a nice consistent naviagble depth
Lol.ok karen
Incompetence. Abusing the tarpon. Obstructing traffic in one of the most dangerous inlets. All for the sake of making it on Wavy Boats. This is what not to do 101. If they really wanted to get some footage, they should have just drove directly into the rocks.
you must be + - 8 years old to have formulated such an erudite commentary all on your own
@feeshyfeeshy I know exactly what is going on in this video. It's an instructional video about how to treat the tarpon in an unsporstsman like manner , cast lines in a busy channel when traffic was at its peak, and just to name a few Violation of 46 C.F.R. 16.201 and

These dudes would be black listed in the Keys for the way they treated this fish
How cruel to prolong this creature’s misery. So very sad and wrong.
Fish don't have a prefrontal cortex and can't rationalise suffering or misery. That fish is back in the water slaying baitfish. She'll be OK so don't worry.
Regardless of how I feel about this video, that's horseshit. All you have to do is look at an octopus that has no brain as we know one, how intelligent & analytical they are for that argument not to hold water (haha). Obviously they don't process like we do, but it was just proven they absolutely do feel fear & pain. Some of the worst was when being taken out of the water & allowed to spend up to ½ an hour suffocating to death. Their lives should be treated as ANY other creature you would eat - meaning a quick & as painless as possible death.
@@stillstormie7222 They let the fish go so there was no death at all. I don't even think it was legal to keep regardless. None of what I said was horseshit either. Even plants/vines can respond/defend against predators or navigate their way up a trellis and they don't even have a brain.
Put the camera down and release the dang fish! 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️

if it's not true I can't imagine it survived! unfortunately I see this around me all the time with striped bass. people are thrilled to catch a big for them fish and take ten pictures and stare at it for a minute after a long fight. it's often I see big fish float up to shore but I imagen quite a few sink and we never see them.

Hi Mark, What should they have done? You appear to be a savant, let me know Thx
@@JCMIAINTL well first thing is make sure you are fishing away from boat traffic, this is just common sense and minimises risk to other boat users. With regard the fish, they were not equipped to quickly land and unhook the fish, a fish of that magnificence needs to be handled properly not dragged around until exhausted and then treated to a bodged unhooking.
Awesome video great footage I watch all of your videos keep up the great work love to see people having fun👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Bozo Comment! Congrats!! Let's debate!!!
Yeah. In the ocean. Shocked
Great drone footage for shark week!
Couple of geniuses
That was some nice photography wavy dude, thanks!
Out here in Hawaii that Hammerhead is a bit on the juvenile scale. They spawn in the area around Makapu'u on Oahu and the Sealife Park folks display them for all to see in a huge aquarium devoted to Hammerheads. Ours out here turn silver grey when an adult. As far as hunting, they tend to pick a spot in the reef that becomes their territory and they feed there exclusively. As a surfer I have seen them on the surface RARELY and they are pretty much known to only attack if you are hunting their reef. They also make most of their kills BELOW the surface and because of their unusual heads, they like to attack with a sideways oriented jaw...When you see them live, they look like dinosaurs...beautiful creatures for sure...
It's small for here as well... Regularly see 15 - 20 feet at the inlets on the west coast.
This video needs to go Viral. Share Share Share
Excellent video and better C&R.

This is 8 minutes I’ll never get back.
The dude is scared of his fish, but wants a pic.
great drone video work. Too bad one of these clowns didnt fall out of the boat.
Way too many people like this. Idiotic place to fish, no understanding of the word “angling”, and for Gods sake open the freaking bail to let the Tarpon save itself if you know that little about landing one. A Bull Shark would have ended that in one pass. Luckily a Hammer has its mouth on the bottom so it needed to basically mount that fish to kill it. Probably died anyway, after a googin does that they don’t have the strength to rejoin the group before becoming a target in one way or another. Nice finish, he acted like he scored a goal. Sad.
One hell of a video, great shots

@@zzopit I’d watch that!
I was rooting for the shark to snatch the guys.
Exactly why are they clowns? BTW, have you ever fished Tarpon?
This should be a PSA. Don’t fall out of the boat in Haulover.
Falling out of the boat in Haulover would be ill advised due to boat traffic, but sharks not so much. The shark didn't even eat the fish. There are very busy beaches 100' away from the inlet and I'm pretty sure an apex predator like a shark knows there are humans in the water nearby. Yet, they ignore all those people day after day and go after fish (their diet) instead.
Bull sharks and Hammerheads have definitely been there forever.
Excellent documentary video!
Great commentary. So happy to see that released it
Outstanding video!
Poor fish. Fighting for it's life until and can no longer fight. Then left exhausted and defenseless near a predator. One of your hardest videos to watch.

Yes in comment higher up someone said The Tarpon did not survive from all of the time wasted taking pictures, and it washed up on the Rocks within 20 minutes of being played to complete Exhaustion, and then not doing a correct recovery by getting the boat moving and holding The Fish while water is passing through it's Gills. I was half expecting this guy's line to get cut by another boat passing in the inlet. A super inconsiderate place to be fishing especially with the wrong tackle for a Tarpon that big. I'm not a fan of tiring out fish that you can't even keep legally on the line like that.
You have no clue! The inlet in over 1200' Long starting on the East side of the bridge and 370' Wide at the point they were hooked to the Large Pilchard ... they stayed on the North Side throughout which is considerably shallower and not used by boats to enter or exit the inlet although PWCs use that side.
