Public Land: Scouting Marsh Buck Bedding, First Antler of the Year | The Hunting Public
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 19 фев 2018
- Today we are scouting a marsh that we hunted several times last fall - primarily observation sits. Our goal now is to go deep into the marsh and find likely buck bedding areas and develop a strategy to get in close and hunt them aggressively next season. We talk about the tradeoffs of hunting bedding vs. funnel areas and even manage to find a shed along the way!

I know im years late, but im going back to watch all of your public land content so I can try to learn more to help me be successful. I hunt for the harvest and the food it provides for my family. I love to hunt, but I love even more when my family is sitting around the table eating an animal that gave its life for us to nourish our bodies with. Yall have countless amounts of information for me to absorb but im trying haha! Thanks for all the content to date, and I look forward to every upload!
You guys are head and shoulders above all the other hunting videos on RUclips and television. I love watching this stuff and learning from you guys. You can feel the actual passion. Keep up the good work.
Thank you Brandon. Good luck to you!
I agree with a Bill H. . I'm an older guy that mostly grew up gun hunting with family and even though I've watched many great shows you guys actually literally show us! It's finally gave me clarity on the sign I see in the field and what I need to do. Keep it up guy's!
You guy's and the hunting beast are the best place for deer hunting info , pursue the wild has the best scenery . Awesome stuff guy's.
Who would've guessed you guys listened go Bone Thugz & Harmony on the way to scouting missions. Keep up the great content.
You learn so much stuff watching your guys channel. Other channels it's just about the kill witck is ok but they don't teach you anything or show you why your doing a certain thing. That's what separates you guys from the rest. Just keep doing what you're doing. Thanks.
Agreed
100%
Thanks Bill!
Hey guys I got a cool, tricky piece of private land I got permission to hunt. Wondering if I get get a few pointers from one of you? I live in west Tennessee. ...thx guys
We do some consulting if you'd be interested in that. Just message us on our website, Facebook, or Instagram pages.
Awesome video guys!!!
Another great episode fellas! keep em coming!
Cant wait to see this come together in the fall!
Some bth to get the scouting started.. 👍🔊🔊
Great content!
Good music! Bone thugs n harmony!
Y'all might not ever find the matching antler but you definitely found matching outfits... 😄
I really like the ground ambush set up you ran across. The only issue you might have is too many beds which can mean too many eyeball's and nose's. I've ran across situations like that with too many beds in an area the bucks will spread out. That's what makes hunting this big marshes difficult. I've played cat and mouse way too many times, I'd set for this bed he pops out 100yds away. Lol. Solid work as always!
Very true Greg! It's a crapshoot in there for sure.
I just started scouting our publics here in MN last weekend, but now we just got 6" of fresh snow and its snowing again!!! Dang it, all the fall bedding is covered up now again!!! Love your content, keep it up
Whitetail Underground Productions thanks!
Always look forward to your guys videos! always great info and love that you guys focus on public land, most hunters only have access to public land and you guys show that its possible to get big bucks in public, you guys should hunt a few states for deer on public just to show your viewers what else is out there, Like ohio for instance. Keep em coming!
Thanks Kenny! We plan to next fall. We'll also be hunting several states this spring for turkeys on public land.
Really enjoy your guys videos. You guys are awesome hunters. Thank you for all the tips and Info. Def has helped me become a better hunter and outdoorsman. Keep up the good work
Thanks Jordan!
love your group of guys and all your vids
Thank you Mr. Ginger.
I bow hunt a managed duck hunting area that is probably 90% closed off to deer hunters during duck season. It'd be perfect for this type of scouting. The open area to hunt isn't really marshy like the rest of it though. It's a ton of acres of pheasant hunting type brush, and a couple small patches a timber. Really tricky. I've managed to pull a few does out. Gotten some pictures of really nice nocturnal bucks on camera.
Listening to Bone! How appropriate...
I love your videos guys! Super helpful information. Do you think you guys could do a video about public land trail cameras tip?
Trentin Rickman yes that’s a good idea!
Good video guys! Can't wait to see your hunt in the fall. Nice shed , did you guys ever found the match? Thanks for sharing keep them coming!
Simply Outdoors didn’t find the match. It’s tough to find antlers in that grass!
I use to use a walking stick and poke around, this is how I was finding my sheds in KY. Now up north in Canada I am in Moose area and unless you are very lucky you will never find a shed...
Great video! Would’ve never thought you guys would listen to Bone Thugz N Harmony! That’s awesome.
Vang - When Zach has control of the music you never know what's going to come through the speakers...keeps things interesting! I was reliving my high school years when that song came on. Thanks for watching! - Greg
Lol HIGH school memories for me too.
Great job guys.
I like your cedar tree ambush spot.
Will the grass be short enough to get a shot at that spot in early season?
BONEHEADoutdoors there should be at least a few openings for shots during the fall. That grass doesn’t get much taller than the belly line of a buck.
Was that Bone Thugs? Love it! lol
Ryan Johnson yes sir!
I found a buck bed with a ton of sign and a huge oak Grove 100 yards away. I have to kayak to get to the island where the bed is. I went in at 10 am and jumped him out of his bed. What time do you think would be the best to setup. I can get to the oaks via kayak undetected with the right wind. I just don't know if this would be a better morning or evening stand
Aaron where did you get your jacket? I've been looking all over and can't find one.
Didn't think I could like yall anymore than I already do then you go and play some bone thug n harmony
Hey guys, do you use go pros when u film these kind of videos or just video cameras?
Yes we do. We'll start posting our video gear soon so everyone can see what we use.
Any updates on Ted Miller's shed season? Great video as always!
We'll see Ted later this week! I think he's been waiting for the snow to melt.
The Hunting Public good deal! Y'all keep hammering out great videos!
Are you concerned that the vegetation at that cedar might be too tall to shoot through in October?
Yes. We may have to stand in behind it or setup where we can draw and stand before shooting.
How do you guys find public land thats not COVERED with TONS of people?? Here in North Ga there so many people, and so few places that are far from roads that its impossible to get away from other hunters.
Do you use trail cameras to scout at all on public land to try and pattern deer?
nathan kaplon yes we do
What will happen if we have a wet spring? That marsh gonna fill up and then will you be able to get back there?
It may fill up but the deer won't go anywhere. However, more water will deter hunters from the area and access will become more difficult. We will find a way to get in there!
could be difficult. what part of iowa are you guys hunting around? I'm from southern iowa too
no sheds here till middle of march
When you guys are scouting like this going into the beds. Are you concerned about leaving your sent in the area?
No not at all. They aren't bothered by it so long as you don't consistently go back in there. We scout areas like this once per year at the max, many times only once ever.
Are you guys coming back to MS to turkey hunt this Spring?
Maybe! We'll be in Alabama first!
I gotcha, well the mosquitoes here in MS are waiting for y'all whenever you ready! Lol
What states are you guys going to turkey hunt this spring?
Alabama, Mississippi (maybe), Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin or South Dakota/Wyoming.
The Hunting Public looking forward to following along! My Black Hills tag showed up in the mail today. Won’t be long now!
Sweet! That will be a fun hunt. Those birds are a blast out there!
Are you going to be doing any spring thunder videos this year?
Nope. All of our turkey hunting will take place here on The Hunting Public.
awesome can't wait, they're already hammering down here in NW Florida, and we still have 3 weeks till opening day, driving me crazy
We'll be doing some podcasts soon on turkeys. Head over to our Facebook page and keep us updated on those Florida birds!
So are you guys no longer associated with spring thunder?
John Rough we are not. We will have all of our turkey hunting content on this channel! We will be headed south mid March!
Are you guys not doing spring thunder this year?
Nope. We'll be doing all of our turkey hunting here on The Hunting Public. We will miss that series after putting in so much work there over the years.
The Hunting Public thats all i needed to know. I'll be watching for the videos. With out a doubt best show out there. Keep them coming!!
Are you guys going to scout turkeys soon?
Donald - We're going to start cranking out turkey content really soon. In mid-March we're heading to Alabama to kick off our public land turkey tour and we'll keep rolling north from there. In the mean time we'll cover tips and tactics and get in the field to do some scouting. Thanks for watching!
How can you tell apart buck/doe beds?
Doe's will bed in a circular fashion with each member of the group watching a different direction. They also bed more randomly in thick cover. Bucks always bed with a wind advantage of some kind. Mature bucks will walk into the bed with wind at their nose, turn around and face their back trail with wind blowing over their back. This covers them from predators and allows them to monitor danger in every direction while they are laying there. We learned this from Dan Infalt a few years ago and have seen his theories proved true time and time again.
How come the marsh isn't wet?
It's very dry this year. Some years it's much higher than this but the levels fluctuate.
