  • Today we are scouting a marsh that we hunted several times last fall - primarily observation sits. Our goal now is to go deep into the marsh and find likely buck bedding areas and develop a strategy to get in close and hunt them aggressively next season. We talk about the tradeoffs of hunting bedding vs. funnel areas and even manage to find a shed along the way!

    I know im years late, but im going back to watch all of your public land content so I can try to learn more to help me be successful. I hunt for the harvest and the food it provides for my family. I love to hunt, but I love even more when my family is sitting around the table eating an animal that gave its life for us to nourish our bodies with. Yall have countless amounts of information for me to absorb but im trying haha! Thanks for all the content to date, and I look forward to every upload!

    I agree with a Bill H. . I'm an older guy that mostly grew up gun hunting with family and even though I've watched many great shows you guys actually literally show us! It's finally gave me clarity on the sign I see in the field and what I need to do. Keep it up guy's!

    You learn so much stuff watching your guys channel. Other channels it's just about the kill witck is ok but they don't teach you anything or show you why your doing a certain thing. That's what separates you guys from the rest. Just keep doing what you're doing. Thanks.

    I really like the ground ambush set up you ran across. The only issue you might have is too many beds which can mean too many eyeball's and nose's. I've ran across situations like that with too many beds in an area the bucks will spread out. That's what makes hunting this big marshes difficult. I've played cat and mouse way too many times, I'd set for this bed he pops out 100yds away. Lol. Solid work as always!

    Always look forward to your guys videos! always great info and love that you guys focus on public land, most hunters only have access to public land and you guys show that its possible to get big bucks in public, you guys should hunt a few states for deer on public just to show your viewers what else is out there, Like ohio for instance. Keep em coming!

    I bow hunt a managed duck hunting area that is probably 90% closed off to deer hunters during duck season. It'd be perfect for this type of scouting. The open area to hunt isn't really marshy like the rest of it though. It's a ton of acres of pheasant hunting type brush, and a couple small patches a timber. Really tricky. I've managed to pull a few does out. Gotten some pictures of really nice nocturnal bucks on camera.

    Will the grass be short enough to get a shot at that spot in early season?

    • @TheHuntingPublic
      @TheHuntingPublic  6 лет назад +1

      BONEHEADoutdoors there should be at least a few openings for shots during the fall. That grass doesn’t get much taller than the belly line of a buck.

    I found a buck bed with a ton of sign and a huge oak Grove 100 yards away. I have to kayak to get to the island where the bed is. I went in at 10 am and jumped him out of his bed. What time do you think would be the best to setup. I can get to the oaks via kayak undetected with the right wind. I just don't know if this would be a better morning or evening stand

      Yes. We may have to stand in behind it or setup where we can draw and stand before shooting.

    How do you guys find public land thats not COVERED with TONS of people?? Here in North Ga there so many people, and so few places that are far from roads that its impossible to get away from other hunters.

    Do you use trail cameras to scout at all on public land to try and pattern deer?

  • @iowapointfreak

    What will happen if we have a wet spring? That marsh gonna fill up and then will you be able to get back there?

    • @TheHuntingPublic
      @TheHuntingPublic  6 лет назад

      It may fill up but the deer won't go anywhere. However, more water will deter hunters from the area and access will become more difficult. We will find a way to get in there!

    • @iowapointfreak
      @iowapointfreak 6 лет назад

    • @TheHuntingPublic
      @TheHuntingPublic  6 лет назад

      No not at all. They aren't bothered by it so long as you don't consistently go back in there. We scout areas like this once per year at the max, many times only once ever.

    How can you tell apart buck/doe beds?

    • @TheHuntingPublic
      @TheHuntingPublic  6 лет назад

      Doe's will bed in a circular fashion with each member of the group watching a different direction. They also bed more randomly in thick cover. Bucks always bed with a wind advantage of some kind. Mature bucks will walk into the bed with wind at their nose, turn around and face their back trail with wind blowing over their back. This covers them from predators and allows them to monitor danger in every direction while they are laying there. We learned this from Dan Infalt a few years ago and have seen his theories proved true time and time again.

    How come the marsh isn't wet?

    • @TheHuntingPublic
      @TheHuntingPublic  6 лет назад

      It's very dry this year. Some years it's much higher than this but the levels fluctuate.
