    One trick I learned on the Hunting Beast is to put a piece of blaze orange clothing in the buck bed at his eye level. That way when you walk away from the bed, you can tell if you're in the buck's field of vision based on if you can see the blaze orange or not. Great show guys.

      if u do that .the buck will leave that spot because u left scent there.i just watched him touch that deer rub in his bed .that is snuff to make the deer nocturnal 4 the year .

    • @TheHuntingPublic
      @TheHuntingPublic  6 лет назад +13

      We don't see deer leave the spot. However you can't get away with going in like this multiple times. You've got to go in, figure it out, and stay out until it's time to hunt. We used to worry about leaving scent and avoided these areas but were always out of the game. Then we threw it out the window one day and had tons more success since. There's obviously many ways to skin the cat but after being a part of both methods, we'll take the aggressive route almost every time.

    At 2:20 that deer bed is right in the middle of a nice patch of yella root (Goldenseal). I dig a lot of it up every year and sell the roots and the tops of it. Actually y'all are in one heck of a patch I been seeing throughout this whole video. A lot of $ there.

    You guys know your stuff. I myself especially early season like to sneak in when scouting and slightly bump deer not to were they completely avoid a area but to were they know something is there but unsure what find good sign up till the bump stage and when you do a bump that is the hot spot usually by late day next morning there right back and have forgotten about the encounter works like a charm early

    I would like to hear your guys take on the type of property I hunt in the mountains of wv. Some of it is similar to the woods in this video, but most of the times there aren't pronounced finger ridges like those on the topo you have. 300-500' elevation changes around here are pretty common from bottom to top. Lots of room room for them to hide. I bet you guys would have some interesting ideas though. Very informative channel, and I enjoy the pub land bowhunts!

    Great stuff...how would you personally go about finding buck bedding in a relatively flat area without ridges?

    • @floridafarmer1344
      @floridafarmer1344 5 лет назад

      Dale Crozier they have several videos where they hunt more flat, marsh type terrain and do breakdowns. They did a 4 part series called “Public Land Challenge” with the Hunting Beast and DIY Sportsman, and the guys from the hunting beast did a great job of zeroing in on a buck in a flat area with oaks and y’all grass. I would recommend going and checking that one out.

    • @floridafarmer1344
      @floridafarmer1344 5 лет назад

      It’s always going to be about wind direction and diversity of habitat in low pressure areas. Also, if you are hunting a field, remember that they will feed on the side that stays shaded the longest in the morning and becomes shaded first in the evening. Then try to find the access points and backtrack their trails to the bedding areas. Once you know where they are coming from and where they are going, you can find a good location in between where the wind will be blowing your scent away from the trail.

    The quality of stalking, scouting information youre putting out is stupid useful for my area.
    Just about every video out thete is from farm country and glassing the rockies. Where im at we have huge bodied bucks, but they are spaced out more sparse than most of the whitetail range. So searching areas like this from weather and topo maps, to boots on the ground takes a lot of thinking and stealth considering most of your shots are going to be within 30 yards. Ive only been hunting big game for 5 years. Ive only shot 3 so far but they were at ranges from 3 -30 yards. And theyve been closer.
    Theres a mapping app that uses topo to show you the sunshine casted or blocked by terrain at any given hour and time. Helps finding spots that heat up earliest and cool down last. Ive found myself on the wrong side of a mountain for the time of day / year a few times.

    You guys are the greatest thing on the tube, but I have something I’d like to share with you about woods
    hunting for those bucks, and it might be that you already know this.
    When in my twenties and thirties, the only places that I could acquire permission to hunt , was on timber company lands, which means I had to hunt deer exclusively in the mountainous timber.
    No corn fields, no bean fields and I did not know what c r p stood for so I spent over thirty years hunting
    These kind of places, with a bow and arrow , and had never seen a cross bow.
    So here we go I am gonna tell y’all my two top secret pieces of hard knocks learning,
    It was all about two things and two things only , acorns, and Water specifically speaking spring heads, the highest available water source with cover.
    Now the acorns was easy, and if you research what I say about them , you will find out that I am right, since what it takes to make a white oak hit big is nothing but available sunlight and that is most plentiful on southern, or southeast slopes and we tried fertilizer, and everything else and nothing but sunlight makes them hit big , now this is especially true in spring when the blooms are frozen out , also the first trees to drop acorns are real deer magnets and they are also highest on the hill on southern slopes. I hope this helps you guys, if it does let me know,, and thank y’all for all the great videos.

      .

    • @buck19
      @buck19 6 лет назад +1

      Most likely. Thing about hunting hills and mountains is the hunt starts when you leave the house and ends when you get home. Meaning plans change. If you jump deer in thick country like this, odds are they didnt get a good look at you. So get them to think you are another deer. They are curious creatures and if its a buck you jump off his doe herd look out, he may come back looking for you of you convince him your a cruising buck. Be ready for him to come in looking for a fight.
      If youre going to act like a deer wear a lot of orange. Camo doesnt matter in country like this.

      Just a suggestion...look for a used Lone Wolf Sit and Climb on Archerytalk or Classifieds. I put the mesh hazmore seat on mine and then use the platform as a frame to strap an ALICE pack to if I need to pack the deer out quartered up. I added a waist strap and good shoulder straps from ALICE frame pack. It's a military pack you can get for cheap off Ebay. You'll pay a little more for a Lone Wolf but they are rock solid in a tree and pretty light, especially with the waist pad and shoulder straps.
