    I finished my service but I love seeing this, I was borderline homeless before the military. Finished my service, got my bachelors for free while getting a allowance and having a blast in college. Got a great job after. If you take advantage of the benefits, the military is an amazing foundation to jump start your life regardless of the cards dealt to you financially.

      @@georgemartyn5268 Sorry for the late response. I majored in Information Sciences and Technology, also got a minor in Supply Chain. I got a job as a Data Analyst, after some years I was able to land a job as a Software Engineer. My only regret is I should of chose a job in the military that would transfer to the civilian world better, but I didn't want a "nerd" job in the military because I knew I could always do that in the civilian world.

    It all depends on rank, location, and time in service. I didn’t start making six figures until I was an E6 in the Navy. I made 96k in Upstate New York, 140k in Bahrain, and 125k in Spain.

      Bro how... I've been in 8 years and I just hit $85k before taxes. Where in Spain can an E6 make 125k??? Rota? Moron? There's no mf way. OHA and COLA are low asf out there. A modern 3 bedroom house in Cadiz is like 1100 Euro a month. It's cheap.

      You made that money while living in one of the most expensive cities in the U.S.
      That's like someone being stationed in Brooklyn, NY (San Fransico is approx. 5% more expensive) and trying to flex that they made $100k in a year. But, when someone with at least a little common sense did some research, it can easily be determined the money was made via base pay (rank/time in service), separate rations, BHA*, and maybe the addition of special duty pay. But take them off of special duty, and PCS them to a place like Oklahoma, Kansas, Alabama, they won't be making anywhere near $100k.
      You get the extra money to help cushion the high cost of living in specific areas. Nothing more, nothing less.
      * BHA w/dependents - $44,208yr. (E-6), $50,652yr. (O-3)
      Rent alone for a 3 bedroom apartment in Brooklyn, NY can start at $38,500yr. and up a month.

    A lot of people undervalue their compensation package in the armed forces of the US. I had to start civil service as a GS11 just to equate (with my pension) what I made on active duty. I left civil service two years ago and dont make near what I did on active duty (hold several academic degrees).

    • @laurencebrooks7699
      @laurencebrooks7699 Год назад

      For me it was a 50% cut while transitioning from AD to civil service. When I retired GS 3 years ago, I took a major cut (60%), but that's ok as I now have two pensions. My pensions and corporate salary have me at 70% of my GS pay, but since Im saving less, I dont notice much of a difference. If an AD member is not properly education and certified, they are in for a shock regaring pay.@@AndresLopez-sq5ks

      Because they can't use it.
      If I make say $200,000 working for company Y but they give me a really nice house to live in with all utilities paid for, a car, a gas card so I never pay for gas, they cover vehicle maintenance, free groceries, free cell phone, the best medical/dental/vision insurance, and they pay for any clothes I want but I bring home 3000 a month cash after taxes then I won't feel like I'm making 200k.
      On top of that you still have to deal with military treatment. Let's say I'm the best military dude on the planet, not Rambo or anything just a really squared away guy, do my job, never get in trouble, always look professional. And let's say someone else goes out drinking, hops in their car and crashes into a light pole. Now I, along with the rest of the unit, have to get in trouble because of him. Watching this in 2023 makes me wish I had taken the opportunity to convert to AGR 2 years ago when I had the chance… BAH is much better and ends up making me more money than technician or comparable civilian jobs (without overtime)

      @nathanlampkin6511 Год назад +2

      What is AGR?

    • @mauriciogarcia4190
      @mauriciogarcia4190 Год назад

      @@nathanlampkin6511 AGR stands for ACTIVE GUARD RESERVE. It’s basically a full time position in a guard base under orders. There is also what’s called a technician which is a full time job at a guard base under title 32 which pays you as a civilian (not ACTIVE ORDERS) and has a slightly different set of benefits. It’s a good way of making more money especially in certain career fields as a junior enlisted but if you live in a higher cost of living area it just makes more sense to “convert” to AGR so you can make more money by the time you make E-6. The technician pay plateaus. Whereas AGR is like active duty and continues to grow in a linear manner. On top of that, title 32 has to work 30 years to earn a retirement. Obviously active duty/AGR is only 20.

      @@JeremiahPeoples I made a promise to my mom that she would never see the inside of a nursing home. If I can keep that promise and be and airman that would be a dream come true. I come from a really poor background, so if I’m not homeless or starving, I don’t really care about money. But I swore that I’d take care of her until the end and if the Air Force would let me keep that promise, I’d be truly happy inside. I don’t have a wife or kids. My mom is the last family I’ve got.

    • @JeremiahPeoples

      Near can be anywhere within like 45m to 1hr
      You can buy a house with $0 down with a va loan.

      Congrats! Going Air Force?
      Bah bas are tax free I believe
      Once you complete your basic training you have access to va loan. Most people don’t use it until you move off base and you receive the bah in cash
      When you’re in the dorm you get paid bah and then all of it is deducted from your pay because you’re receiving a “government provided place to live”
      Yes your bah you can use to pay your va loan. You keep what is left over
