No point hoping Barkley comes good, not when we have a player in Sanson who needs minutes. Ultimately Ross is not our player. He's Chelsea's. Sanson IS our player.

Can’t grasp this love affair they’re having w RB’s “potential.” Are there no younger equally talented less expensive players in the world? If we’re progressing, just go buy a player who’s actually performing now rather than someone who “might come good.”

Sanson, Luiz/Nakamba, McGinn would be my mid, Barkley has become ineffective unfortunately and has had plenty of chances to try and cement his position since injury, he's put more effort into his strops than he has on the pitch, he's good obviously but lately we play like we have a man down with him and we can't afford that.

Really enjoy listening to these 2 guys and respect there views on all things Villa but I would definitely go with the midfield that started against Wolves (Luiz, Mcginn & Sanson). Thought they were full of energy & looked to advance the team forward & I think Wolves really struggled against them. Unfortunately as soon as Sanson went off & Barkley came on we totally lost control of the midfield & as a result we lost all attacking threat. Really can't see Barkley turning his form around & we were lucky his strange pass into our box didn't result in a Wolves goal.

Not counting our chickens against them, injuries or not. If we don't force the issue from the off and in any way approach it the same way we did at the Blades, we are just gonna start resorting to punt ball and throwing Davis up top the longer it goes on, and knowing our luck Toon will get a jammy bit of luck they need, against the odds. We have a dire record at St Sports Direct Park, and we always seem to underperform against sides on bad runs, bar Albion this season.

This is another game we should win but we struggle v the strugglers, obviously 1-0 to them after Ollie hitting the post, var giving offide after a worldy from SJM, Traore falling over his two left feet,, Barkley walking around the pitch in the opposite direction to play and Anwar sat on the touchline sulking because his shorts are too big 🤣

If Barkley doesn’t cost over £30m or a double swoop for Tammy & Ross for £50m could be an idea. But that also depends on wages. I think the Barkley conundrum comes down to Gareth Southgate. Southgate previously said about Grealish that he picked Mount ahead of him as he offers more defensively. If Barkley has an ambition to get back into the England squad he is likely thinking about that. Earlier in the season when he was at his best he wasn't asked to defend instead being more of a supporting attacker for Watkins so he never gets isolated as we defend with 2 banks of 4. However more recently we are defending in a 4-5-1 with Barkley really deep and it isnt coming to him naturally imo. Ultimately its a question of trying to show what Southgate wants to see at the cost of club form or play the way he is most effective for his club and give up on England under Southgate.
It also doesnt help that he has come back from injury and covid played 7 times in 3 weeks and lost all confidence on top of that. For me he doesnt start most weeks right now especially if we plan to play with a 4-5-1 rather than a 4-4-1-1

I do think that we'll have enough to beat Newcastle even without Grealish. If we can't then I have worries about where we actually are as a club.
