Drove my sisters beetle from Northern California to LA to visit a friend. Her car has been wrecked before. So the headlight bracket was messed up. When I got to LA. One of the headlights was gone. We ended up using some zip ties to make sure if the latch moved it couldn’t fall out.

I’ve hear of people hitting the brakes hard and a headlight falls out. 😂 it’s like an eyeball falling out.

HIDs are the best!! What colour temperature did you go for? I have a 8000k ice blue\white HID kit in my 2001 Golf with aftermarket projector headlights so they won’t be any light scatter!

I love HID headlights too! I put in 5000K they are the "brightest" as far as light projection.

I used some liquid electrical tape insulation on those wires. I just paint it on. I had the same problem

That’s a good idea, I’ll have to pick that up for next time. All of the wiring insulation in the car is drying out and brittle.

You could also mod it to where your drl lights wont come on when you turn your car on. Easy to do i did it on my jetta

I have a 2004 vw new beetle gls 1.8 convertible. Someone did a Frankenstein job on the lights before i bought it by installing a round LED light in front of the lights in the current assembly and a simple basic wire job around the old ballast and wiring to the internal switch. They also cut/removed the 9 pin female connectors on each side. Would a kit like this work in my situation? Should i just solder on new 9 pin connectors? I wish i could just install LED lights but they all have 3 pin connectors and i don't know what to attach them to by bypassing the current hid ballast.

I wish I had a better answer than I'm not sure. But without seeing the wiring that they installed, it is kind of hard to know. Now, if you're somewhat mechanically inclined you could take a volt meter and see which wires are live and which are ground. If you could determine which ones are which you could wiring in a HID kit fairly easily. Is the original spot for the bulb on the housing still available to put a bulb in?

Great video. Are your high beams still H1's?

Yep, the highbeams are still H1’s bulbs. I thought of upgrading them to LED. At least that way they would be brighter and keep the color profile of the low beams. I also plan on switching out the fog lamp bulbs.

Are you talking about the one on the bottom/backside of the headlight assembly?

The wire harness from the actual switch

@@johnmcmullen6715 I’ll take a look at the wiring diagram. I’m not sure the switch runs directly to the headlight. But I’ll take a look and let you know. Thanks for watching
