When I first heard that song, and opera was quite new to me, I remembered feeling quite ecstatic. It was sooo romantic, tender and divine! I did not expect myself feeling this way to that song. But the melody, the lyrics and the sensation are PERFECT!
Thanks so much GOS. I adore this aria. Don't love comparisons. Wunderlicht lived up to his name. But anyone singing a pure and honest tenor Magic Flute is doing me a great kindness, as did you by sending it to me. Danke.
@LAZARUSREX1 Francisco Araiza is one of the very few Tenors (Di Stefano, Wunderlich, Aragall and Kraus are other examples) able to modulate not only his volume, as Belcanto dictates (Ref. Messa di Voce) but also his vibrato (in frequency and in combination with volume!!!) giving his renditions a special beauty and expressiveness. otherwise not achieved. He resembles a great painter with an own painting technique. These singers own a perfect technique and are great in their own way.
Wunderlich more beautiful voice but this IS very good. You know how I know? I FELT it... sounds silly perhaps but some performances I really feel the words and get into the mood and some I just don't. Thankyou for sending.
Anytime you want to measure what kind of potential a young up and coming tenor has, have them sing this...the final lines truly make or break any tenor. Same with 'Un Aura Amorosa'
I love this guy's voice even though he's frequently under pitch during this aria. We all have good days and bad days. A bit of compassion goes a long way.
@David45NV1 Few people actually notice the skill with which Araiza (and most truly great singers) shape the details of their singing, such as that vibrato. It's very easy to overdo it; but it is in just such control, nuance and Practice where one finds that tiny spark which distinguishes a truly great Artist from an opera singer, even a really really good opera singer.
his voice sounds strangled and strained, as becomes evident especially in places like this 1:38 and the monotony of the vibrato makes me want to run away instantly. maybe not his day, the intonation also suffered.
This rendition is just ok (hhmm!). This does not even come close to his recording of Tamino, opposite Cheryl Suder as the queen (under Sir Neville Marriner). Waaayyyyy different. His recording is actually my favorite version of Dies Bildniss that I have heard so far.
The sound is very strange in this video - such a strong "echo"! This is not the best performance of great Francisco Araiza - he sounds somewhat flat at moments. His "Un aura amorosa" available on YT is a masterpiece!
Why do you have to bring up Domingo on all these videos? There are some of us, such as myself who like to enjoy Mr. Araiza's singing without being reminded of the pain that Domingo's voice brings them.
Saludos.
His was a very dark lyrico spinto voice, not in the same voice class as Pav, who was light lyric. Domingo tried indeed ot pass off as a dramatic, but I wouldn't go so far as to say he couldn't sing. I can hear, after listening carefully, that he does cover the passaggio and above, but he pushes out the sound instead of letting it come naturally, so many times he ends up souding like he's simply yelling on pitch (and sometimes off pitch).
It's ridiculous all the shit you nobodys are talking about Domingo he's more talented than any of you haters. Fritz Wunderlich is my favorite singer but even I will admit that there are things Domingo does better than Wunderlich. They are different, drop the arguement.
Bad german, bad phrasing, wrong articulation, even wrong notes. Very sloppy. Listen to the rest of the recording and you´ll see that he´s not even able to sing the recits. Araiza was a fabulous leggiero (best Ernesto of all times, but Mozart? Please.
A very beautiful performance. Superbly phrased, absolutely perfect in that regard, not a note out of line...and this is live.

Bravo. It is indeed a beautiful lyric voice doing a beautiful aria. I don't compare - just enjoy the present. Thanks for uploading.

Danke.
gorgeous, beautiful tenor,
Thank you for adding this performance by Araiza, a tenor I admire; a simply beautiful rendition of "Dies Bildnis.

I was presently surprised to hear a new tenor, Isaac Hurtado, do wonderful justice to this aria.
Anytime you want to measure what kind of potential a young up and coming tenor has, have them sing this...the final lines truly make or break any tenor. Same with 'Un Aura Amorosa'

You are right. This was not his best performance. But take a look to his one: ruclips.net/video/j42Mvn1uwkc/видео.html
A great singer I just found.
@Jarrith4291 That is the creature that was chasing Tamino at the beginning of the show.
GERMANOPERASINGER thank you, this a beautiful post.
I agree, Araiza is the closest I've come to feeling Wunderlich's effect when he sings it.

Is this staged in a swimming pool?

I agree.
under pitch on almost all Gs and Aflats....why ?
James Frazier physics 😋
Because he is a human beeing.

is that the slain dragon down-stage left??!?!?

Theres Echo because its a live performance on a large open stage.
I've heard it on DVD..it sounds better

Are there the information about the production? thank you!
PRAFE
Domingo fears the name ARAIZA like the devil the LORD PRAYER!

Saludos.

This is not Araiza at his best. There are plenty of better recordings of him in this.
It's ridiculous all the shit you nobodys are talking about Domingo he's more talented than any of you haters. Fritz Wunderlich is my favorite singer but even I will admit that there are things Domingo does better than Wunderlich. They are different, drop the arguement.
so is really true that domingo undermined ARAIZA? but the strctly german public aclaimed ARAIZA the best rossini, mozartian singer even hoffman
Suena bien, es un gran tenor pero le falta la técnica vocal y la majestuosidad del Príncipe de Opera Frizt Wunderlich
