I absolutely loved this film. I know it had missing moments but it’s hard to get everything in. I also thought Henry was absolute perfection to me. Nicholas’ capability to show all of his emotions within his eyes was so worthwhile.
Exactly! The movie lacks depth in some places compared to the book, but I still consider it a good adaptation bc I feel like the pieces the chose to take from the book and put on screen make sense. Maybe a short series could have been more beneficial to convey the whole plot of the book, but I still enjoyed it AND we have the book anyway if we want more ☺
Well, let's be honest... it was absolutely stunning movie. It has everything, love, drama, passion, politics. It wasn't just a silly romance. It was beautifully made movie with great budget, everything looked great and the cast was just amazing. And funny thing - after I watched the movie I bought the book :)
I'm sure you're going to ADORE the book! It's everything the movie was, but so much more. Henry and Alex's story is peak romance and the side characters are a delight! 🥺💜
@@lovemyshelf The lack of side characters was what put the film version below the line for me, really. They were all so underdeveloped, where in the book they add the banter, the sparkle and a lot of the depth
I am so glad you loved the mpvie! I honestly think that this is going to be groundbreaking. It’s not just a fluffy romcom, and even if it was, that alone would be amazing. I just want to say about their sex scene in Paris. The Director said in many different interviews that he told the producers upfront if you do not allow me to shoot the scene this way, I am walking. It was the very first seen that he talked about with the two leads. He said that it was incredibly important to him now, just to be accurate about the way men have sex, but it was a pivotal part of the plot. He said after the sex scene, it stopped being a romantic comedy and became a pure romance. And I have to agree with him. That question “who is going to do what” was so important in the fact that Henry immediately embraced him and comfort him when he realized that he was anxious was everything. Sex is not always sexy. Sometimes it’s funny or emotional and I really think it’s great that they showed everything. And I am so so glad that the dissecting did not push your boundaries too far. Thanks again for your amazing breakdown of this wonderful film.
Thank you so much for your comment, I had no idea! My boundaries with sex scenes are that I need to be able to feel the intimacy and connection between the characters. It can be raw and explicit, as long as I can sense that it was meant that way for a reason, storytelling wise, charcter wise, etc. I won't feel uncomfortable. At least not on my own, of course, the fact that I'm filming myself for yt can sometimes add a layer of second hand embarassement for me I guess, but as you could see, it wasn't the case with this scene at all. It felt very real, romantic and poetic... The director outdid himself!
"stopped being a romantic comedy and became a pure romance" - Yes! My first viewing felt a little flat, as I was expecting it to be more comedic. I watched it again as a pure romance, and I was so entranced and even cried a few times!
Obviously as a book lover we were going to be missing the parts that were cut but we also have to respect how difficult it is to create adaptations. Things had to be cut from the plot and they chose to focus on the relationship and love and connection between Alex and Henry. They did this part PERFECTLY!!! Also thank you for pointing out how horrible it was from Miguel, the Journalist, to out Alex like that, as a queer AND LATINO man himself. It really disgusts me actually. And idk if I like that they made a Mexican queer man, who was at least on the outside inspired by Rafael to be the villain of the movie plot. In the book it was all Richard, a rich cis-het white old man, and honestly that made a lot more sense to me. So I think that is honestly the only change that they made that I am genuinely not happy about. It kinda makes a jealous Ex of Alex the villain when they could’ve made a rich white man the villain. I just wanted to put that out there cause I haven’t seen anyone talk about it. Anyway I loved your reaction, love seeing any of your reactions cause you always have similar thoughts to mine and you notice little things and interpretations that over RUclipsrs always miss. For example, when Alex gave Henry the key and they specifically pointed out earlier that Henry has never owned a key and now he has the key to Alex’s heart and home. So yeah lots of love ❤❤
That the point why they don't make Richard the villain like in the book i pretty don't understand the change ! If they weren't willing to make the politician the villain they could have make one of his staff ! May be they would denounce some type of penpushers who abuse of the "press freedom" when they are just noisy and of course denounce the fact that us the public are claimant and fond of those sort on private life intrusion
This has quickly become my most recent obsession.. As soon as I finished this movie I took to fanfiction and bought the book so I could read it... all I know is I want a sequal to this movie stat in it where both alex and henry are living their truths out and proud
It's definitely a win. Like I watched the movie first before reading the book, and normally I'll be like, yeah, books are def better, but the thing is... I like both. I like both of them. There are aspects of the book that we saw more in the movie, like Henry's emotions, his POV. And Alex's speech about coming out. They have to remove a lot of things from the book, and I understand how it can suck, but the thing is, you cant put everything in a 2hr movie. And some of the scenes in the books are def controversial that I'm sure the execs def decided to play it safe. I wish they will release the 3hr version, or heck, a mini series with the casts as it is.
I prefer reading a book after seeing a movie, and I think this one especially would have worked well for that (I didn't know they were making a movie when I read it! But also I didn't want to wait, so...) The movie stands really well on its own, but there are some things that work way better in the book, and some plot elements that changed enough that you don't know exactly what's going to happen when you read it.
OMG! Thank you for this. I needed to hear someone else's POV after watching RWRB. Beautiful love story beautifully told with two leading men who have insane chemistry and are soooo attractive it's distracting. Matthew Lopez got this adaptation right. Even though there are changes from the book. I think the movie still evokes the same feeling and has the same beautiful tone. Top 5 Favorite Scenes (if I have to choose): 1. PM Dinner First Real Hookup. It's the first time we see a different side of Henry taking the lead. Alternately I love how nervous he is asking Alex to the Polo match. Top to bottom I love the entire scene. 2. First time they have sex in Paris. So romantic and beautiful and well crafted I cried. And yes straight women of America gay men have missionary sex. Educate yourselves. It's embarrassing. 3. The long shot only on Henry's face on the dock. Heartbreaking and so well acted it was gutting. 4. The storm the castle Alex confronts Henry scene. Both of these actors gave this scene so much nuance and heart. I cried. 5. That damn romantic lovely dance in the museum. So fucking beautiful. And hats off to the music sup for a perfect song. P.S. IF I had to say one thing I missed in the movie (which made me glad I had read the book) was their emails ending with love letter quotes. I understand why it wasn't included most likely due to time. However exchanging quotes from (mostly) famous queer love letters from throughout history made my heart hurt. In a good way. I hope if they do an extended directors cut they include some of these. P.S.S. If you don't have it already buy the collectors hard back copy of the book. There's a new Henry Chapter that gives you a flash forward look into their lives from his POV. It's amazing.
I resonate with everything you said in this comment 😭🙌🏻 (Thank you for taking the time to engage with me btw!) Except for the missing scenes I already talked about in the video, my biggest disappointement lays in the quotes from famous queer love letters not being included in the movie. Just like you, I understand why they didn't make the cut, but the bookworm and hopeless romantic in me died a little 😔 I think it's one of my favourite aspects of the book as well! P.s You should rewatch the intro (or watch it if you skipped it 🤭), I do point to my Casey McQuiston collection in the beginnning and at the bottom of the pile, you can see the blue collector version of RWRB 😉
@@lovemyshelf I watched your intro but I totally missed the book! Reading the Henry chapter makes me so excited for a sequel. I keep reading they may release a 3 hour extended directors cut of RWRB. One can only dream. BTW I first found you when I became a rabid Young Royals fan. I love your POV of that show. I'm so excited and scared for the final season. Team Wilmon 4EVER.
what is truly sad is they gave this movie and R rating just because and even Lopez who made this movie was a little surprised. But we all know why and it's just both sad and wrong. Their first real intimate bedroom scene was done so well. One fan noted that during the entire "moment" Alex kept looking at Henry for approval and guidance as it were. Making sure he was ok too. When you see that moment and focus it just gives you all the feels and you see Alex becoming very mature and caring for Henry deeply. That scene was so well done without being all raunchy and intense.
I totally agree with the sentiment behind your comment and I don't know much about how ratings in the US work tbh. But even if there are WAY MORE explicit sex scenes in other movies... The Paris scene still count as one? I think? Right? So it makes sense for me that the movie isn't "technically" family friendly. But hey, whay do I know? 🤷🏻♀️
I have watched SO many of these RWRB reactions, and yours is the absolute best of them all. I loved your insights and the little things you picked up on. I enjoyed your discussion and comments. So, so thoroughly on point and entertaining. Watching this with you was the best time. Thank you. 🥰
I am so obsessed - in a good way - of this movie, I've watched it again and again, along with all the clip and every reactions I can find. So here I am back again watching your reaction a second time (and probaby a few more times at least in the future. It is so wonderful that you shared such a great reaction to this story. Once again, thank you.
Omg, I ran into your reaction cause I’ve been obsessed with this movie since it came out. I’m definitely going to read the book after this. But also I am a huge Exol and Kai stan and I noticed you used his song Blue which just made this even better for me ❤
I'm sure you'll enjoy the book just as much! 🥰 I'm not deep enough to consider myself an Exol but I LOVE EXO and Kai especially. I used a lot of his music in my videos hihihi
I thought it was interesting they turned toward each other as the cake fell. Instead of away from each other, or trying to flee. Like, they are already in it together
there were so many good simply amazing heartstring moments. But the dancing in the museum and the beautifully haunting rendition just got all the feels 🥺. If you look a little more during the scene where Henry's sister Bea talks to him about the emails. There are newspapers with headlines outing Henry. When Alex said "baby" I think everyone watching this movie just DIED and thought, that's it...time out....I need a moment, tissues please and bring the whole damn box 😭. I'll break the sound barrier for you.
The bisexual crisis was probably my favorite part of the book, and I am so sad it got pretty much entirely cut I think the main reason they added the reporter is that it allowed them to save time by removing two characters and the plot lines that went with them. I understand, although I think the transition into their relationship didn't work quite as well without the bi panic The romantic scene where they were dancing to Get Low and everyone else got low and their eyes met across the dance floor was actually insane, but in a good way
I'm also sad we didn't get to see the bi panic unfold in front of our eyes, but like I pointed out in the video, Alex does have one technically even if his scene with Nora doesn't exactly go like it does in the book. The explicit talk about bisexuality between them is not there, but instead, we get an Alex that is still wrapping his head around being attracted to guys sometimes. (Let's not forget that his hook up with Miguel happened while he was drunk, something that was done purposefully I think. And that the Liam thing probably happened just like in the book.) But his panic comes from the fact that he's having those things for Henry, which was also his issue in the book tbh. I think that what was missing in terms of his journey is how much coming to the terms with the fact that he's queer affects him as a whole. The History that comes with it, the community aspect, etc. Which probably didn't make it into the movie bc A. No Rafael. B. We only had two hours and they decided to focus on the romance aspect of the book more. Maybe it was all a plan too? They probably wanted the movie to speak to as many people as possible, and diving into those plot lines may have lost the straight viewers? Idk tbh.
I agree that a huge loss of the movie compared to the book is Alex coming to the understanding of his queerness and struggling to let go of his preexisting presumably heterosexual identity. This is just too hard to accomplish in the movie, as it's all so much within his head, and long soliloquy is very hard to get done right and would eat up so much time from the precious 2 hours they're trying to keep the movie within. The movie sets up an extrovert Alex as opposed to a more introvert Henry, which is easier for the audience to wrap our heads around during the first viewing, while the book has the luxury to show that they actually both have a sophisticated introvert side and that complexity gets to play out in Alex's head and through their elaborate email exchange.
@@mygoat0604 I agree with everything you wrote except calling Alex more introverted in the book. He's very much still an extrovert on the page, but he's definitely more introspective though!
i really enjoyed your reaction. so lovely and genuine. thank you for uploading. this is such a great movie. Nick conveys the emotions through his eyes so good and real!
Thanks for the great reaction! You made a wise choice to avoid most promotional material before watching the movie. They made me expect a much more comedic or farcical movie. It wasn't until my second viewing that I could appreciate it for the swoony romance that it is!
Loved your reaction, I first watched the film and then read the book. I love the chemistry between this two amazing guys, ... the chaotic personality of Alex, the sadness of Henry. The way Henry looks at Alex from the beginning, how he can't take it anymore at the party and kisses him, Alex's shocked face, and Henry's reaction when he realizes Alex kissing him back. Perhaps by adapting it he lost a bit of depth and context to understand the reactions, especially when he jumps into the water and the image puts his hands to his heart, proving that the handsome peasant boy was finally able to drop the last piece of armor that protected his heart
liked before watching because it is rwrb AND the stray kids posters 🤭 lot's of love from a german stay I really liked your comments, I thought the same of most of the scenes 🥰
Loved your breakdown on when Alex first claimed his bisexuality, it was one of my favs. such a subtle but lovely way to show that very REAL way alot of us in the queer community come to terms with our sexuality every coming out tale doesn't need tears, or applause or a traumatic moment all those things are still very prevalent in the community but IT IS getting better and it's important to feel as "not a big deal" about as the movie made it I love love LOVED that
Their first time is litteraly them not realized they are deeply in love already because this is not them having sex but them making love to each other and that a huge difference
This movie was just amazing, and do not even let me start with the cast choice!! I've watched it four times so far!! Unfortunately a lot of details were cut off from it, but I was already expecting that, since you can't obviously include all the depth from the book in a 2-hour movie. But I still believe that it does a GREAT job creating the urge to read the book for people who still haven't read it and wants more. BTW people are saying that Prime Video has a 3-hour long version of the movie (the original planned length), let's pray they are going to release it later on since the release has been a huge success!!
the movie and your reaction is great! as usual, I personally just have a little feeling of emptiness after watching the movie, I'm missing something. but it's normal in the end, you can't adapt such a big book without removing parts. By the way, we love the "au secours" that came out on its own 🤣
Ok, in the most gut wrenching scene of the movie, you made me burst out laughing with that “Make it stop” card! How dare you toy with my emotions! 😂 But honestly, all my feels were there with you. Great review!
okay last thought... The biggest disappointment for me as far as changes from the book was the removal of pretty much all of the other queer characters in the book, or at least not making their queerness apparent (as in Nora - I have no clue if her character is meant to be bisexual in the movie, even though she could have easily spent 10 seconds in the scene talking with Alex about the kiss to make it clear. Amy honestly gave enough Gay Vibes that I still consider her canon queer in the movie, but it would have been even less time for her to say "my wife and I have a poodle named Jonathon" instead of just saying "I" there) Even in the scene with the crowd outside of Buckingham Palace, we only see the muted reflection of the crowd with their pride flags. It felt a bit like they were trying to avoid the "we're supposed to believe there are really THAT many queer people that all end up in close proximity like that" kind of accusations that people make, or that in order to show that it's "just a normal love story" that they didn't want to be heavy-handed with the representation otherwise. Which I probably would have been okay with if it hadn't been based on a story which did include that representation. And they replaced ALL of the canonically queer supporting characters in the book with... Miguel. The bad guy. Given the Trump figure's removal from the book, Miguel is literally the primary villain, especially on the American front. Don't get me wrong, love a gay villain. Just not at the expense of a whole cast of diversely queer characters
Completely agree with you except for the part about the reflection of the crowd. This was obviously done bc the imagery MEANS something. We don't see the crowd directly bc they're not important. What matters is that they're here, and that Henry gets to see the support his people are giving him. So the focus of the scene doesn't shift from him, from them (he and Alex), because THEY are the ones who matter. THEY are the ones we've been following. I really love the use of the reflection as a metaphor too. I personally think it's deep, tasteful and poetic 😔
I honestly love most of it, but I really wish they hadn’t removed the queer representation in Nora. I loved how unequivocal Alex is in his telling Zahra that nothing would stop him seeing Henry.
Yeah, that boy said “no” with zero hesitation and absolute certainty! And to Zhara’s credit, at least she asked instead of demanding, and accepted his decision without fighting or arguing about it.

@@lovemyshelf yeah I was🥹 But I think people in the fast-food were like : « Do we have to help her? »🥹😅 But once again, thank you for being you in this reaction… 🤗
I loved this movie, and I hope this comes out on DVD or blue Ray, I can understand the family put Henry though when he came out, as for my self when I came out to my family I got excommunicated from them, and do hurts and the pain he was feeling with worried what would happen to him when his family found out. I know it did not show much. But Amazon prime did a great job with this movie
As much as I get that some things are missing from the book- for me for example the depth of the email so people understand how they have grown- I think some things are better like Henry standing up for himself to the king and Alex’s speech. But the main thing is the chemistry. You could not have found better actors and chemistry! Both are brilliant. Enjoyed the commentary and your thoughts ❤
I'm a fan of your YR reactions... we were on the same ground a lot of the time there - I'm looking forward to what you made of this movie. I watched it (the movie I mean) and yeah, it's very entertaining and a perfect romcom, which I enjoyed but no match the other princely pair... 🙃 I didn't know that there is a book - I think I will read it. Thank you for your reaction. Great as ever...
@@lovemyshelf please don't misunderstand me - I enjoyed the movie also very much ... especially the character of Zahra - I reeeally loved her. But the thing that flipped me was Sir Stephen Fry playing the king. I had to rewatch the scene because I couldn't contain that the figurehead of gay actors in GB would be playing the (supposedly) non queer king.I laughed so hard...
So… just wanted to say that I just now have finished with the audiobook of „Red, white and royal blue“…. and God, do I love it!!! It really IS a beautiful beautiful story… I have to say, they really did a good job in the films! But I have to say I can now relate to what you said in your reaction … I really really looooved the emails Alex and Henry have exchanged and I understand why they couldn’t bring it up in depth in the films but I feel that I was missing that in the film even though I haven’t known it back then… I also miss the whole „Luna“-strand of the story… and agree with you that it is a pity they have reduced it to the reporter story… … and now I will re-watch the film again…❤
Since this is a comedy which only skirts some sort of reality as needed, I get such a laugh over the entire wedding reception scene. The cake is absurd, so big and almost impossible to actually cut and serve. To make it more likely to fall, it sits on a regular height table which then sits on a low platform. But also notice that while the alcohol flows freely, there is not a spot of any type of solid food visible. Not even snack food like canapes, cheese and crackers, or other types of hors d'oeuvres to mitigate the effects of all the alcohol. I personally do like alcohol. I find it makes me sleepy and I don't like the taste. But even I, if I was in attendance and feeling shy and a bit out of place, would probably get sloshed. When one is nervous, having something in your hand can help, but here the only thing would be a drink. I know the cake itself was fake but the cake that fell on the two was real. I do wish they would give out the recipe, no matter how bland, so we would have the OFFICIAL version whenever we might get together to celebrate this movie.
If fans sent messages ctor Matthew Lopez, by any and every method in existence we might convince him that releasing a Director's Cut of this sweet film, he might, in turn, convince the producers that it would prove worth their while. As far as Matthew's casting system, If it works, don't fix it! His instincts seem to be excellent!
The director cleared out the "longer cut of the movie" rumor in an interview. It was never meant to be 3 hours long. Just like with every movie, scenes had to be cut but the movie we got is the final version 🙌🏻
@@lovemyshelf Of course, I understand all that but ...I believe fans want more of this couple and, at the moment, a sequel doesn't seem likely. The film is already shot, so scenes removed can be put back in without rehiring actors and crews. It can all be done in the editing department according to the director's instructions. Everyone involved stands to gain ...starting with the viewing public!
one of the most genuine reactions I've seen so far. thank you for sharing. I totally agree with you. the movie is not as richer as the book, but story wise I think it captured the heart and the real essence of Alex's and Henry's love story. I hope we can get a sequel..SOON!
This was fantastic- it just has wonderful, fun classic rom-com vibes! But it did make me even more desperate to see a series adaptation of this book. This was wonderful start, but I want to go deeper into these characters- I want to bring the more epic feeling to their romance and the side characters from the book as well as exploring Henry’s depression and Alex’s more nerdy side. It just made me want even more, because this was so good!
@@lovemyshelf no at the very end after all the credits there is a cake scene moment where Alex asks Henry if he thought anyone noticed what happened with the cake

I didnt read the book till i watches the movie 😭 i definitely would have enjoyed seeing Alex figuring out his sexuality but the i love the way they did this. I also would have enjoyed the parts about Alexs parents being divorced and the fight between them at the table. But it was very well done. I love some of the costumes they have to its amazing 😭. i love how the ad on this vid was a beer commercial promoting the “red white and blue” southern misogynistic america and this is a red white and blue gay film
In the book, Alex has had two same-sex relations, one Liam in high school, the other Luna. Although the movie changed Luna to Miguel, they also have Alex's back story as an unidentified person in high school and Miguel. As he says, he is okay with being "low level into guys" but apparently doesn't grasp he might wind up with a strong emotional tie to a man, until it happens.
Hi there! (Thank you for commenting so much on this vid btw) Alex never had a relationship with Luna in the book... After figuring out he was bi, Alex understood he might have had a crush on him but nothing ever happened between them 😭
Late to watching your reaction, thought it was marvelous, thank you. Gay rom-coms are usually considered second rate and this bias shows in a good number of reviews - even the positive. Unlikely, I guess, but I think RW&RB deserves a slew of nominations in award season.
Hi there, so few days ago I was in the need for some cuteness and started to listen to the audio book of this book and I also watched tons of scenes and reaktion videos since I can't watch the film yet. This story is such a great distraction from life 😂. Your video was, again (like with YR), my favourite reaktion video. You are bringing different scenes to the table and your comments are so thoughtful imo. I personally like June a lot in the book and the trio dynamic with Nora. It's also just a fun book and I personally don't know a lot of books like this. Greetings 👋
Great reaction! And the idea of a 'Royal Family' may seem weird but it's tradition. And I like that. There will always be Royals around. Anyways... great reaction.
Not sure I really agree, (for various reasons) but since I live in a direct democracy, it's easier for me to "preach" our way of doing things I guess lol
@@lovemyshelf, I am from the United Kingdom and all I can say that we are very lucky to have a Monarch as our Head of State and Head of the Armed Forces. And the UK is also a democracy which means we can still vote for our Prime Minsters. The Royal Family only cost us $1 per household while in the US, the running of the President's office alone costs citizens $4.50 per household. And the Royals work with the will of the people and with that, they offer advice to the PM of the day. A little fun fact: 1) A nation with a Royal as the Head can avoid a nuclear war. 2) A nation with a Royal as the Head can avoid a dictatorship. Did you know? That King Charles III like his late mother Queen Elizabeth II, is the monarch of 15 countries. Which includes Canada and Australia. Anyways, I respect your views. So, all good here :) Have a great day!
@@MahinderSG1952 Respectfully, this is still not the same as a "direct democracy". I'm from Switzerland and I would never trade our political regime for something else. To be clear, I don't think the way the US is running things is any better tho!
Amazon required them to keep the movie to just two hours long, and I suspect a series was way out of the question. So for every detail from the book left out, people should think what piece from the movie should be taken out to get another detail from the book included. Also, watching the movie with this in mind, plus all the interviews, it is clear that the book was held in the highest regard by all involved. There are so many clues that refer back to the book - things like having Henry drive a James Bond-type sports car to tie back to his father playing Bond in the movies. They wanted so hard to do justice to the book, while at the same time, making the movie work without getting cluttered and obscuring the romantic part. I can't image how painful some of these decisions must have been.
Call me a romantic, but I genuinely loved this movie. I’ve read the book, the collection edition, and I’ve seen the deleted scenes which are amazing. How could they upgrade besides a sequel or series; a Broadway-West End bound musical. Just saying… 🇺🇸🇬🇧🏳️🌈❤️🤍💙
Just for your information, the author of the book had a cameo appearance at the end of the movie. When Alex looks into the office where his mom is with two other women, writing her concession speech, the woman typing on the laptop is author Casey McQuiston.
I have filmed all my reactions to s2 on the same day. The reason I "paused" is bc I was editing my reaction to this movie and bc I have a life lol so I can't be editing 24/7 😅 My reaction to episode 3 should be up this week tho!
I love that you just skipped the “annoying Miguel conversation” 😂😂 I’m SO over that character’s addition to the story. I’ve been pretty understanding of the director’s reasons for some of the many jolting changes from the book. I understand cutting or combining characters for simplicity to focus on the story of Alex & Henry. But to ADD this Miguel nonsense? I so wish they kept Rafael Luna and used the onscreen time with Miguel for Rafael instead. Plus it just makes way more sense for a policitcal campaign to hack emails, rather than a disgruntled gay reporter.
i have very mixed feelings about this movie. it was good as a silly little queer romcom, but as a book lover, i can't help but feel a bit disappointed. i know it's an adaptation and it's never gonna be 1:1, but i feel like they could've done better imo
I actually think they messed up a lot of the banter, the politics, and the relationships. They put so little effort into the side characters that it took something away for me. It also lacked the higher stakes of the book. The chemistry was good and it was cute enough, but overall it disappointed me
I loved the movie. Then ordered the book and couln't follow it, til I made an effort and now I alternate movie and book bits when I need to chill. I may be a bit paranoid but I'm afraid Amazon (Jeff Bezos) could do with a bit of gay explicit sex but NOT the really agressive anti Republican message of the book. Unfortunately we miss the "sería una mentira, porque no sería él" that gave me goosebumps when it appeared in the middle of the English text. Anyway, sigh!

@@georgeweatherford1027 I agree, they could have done this aspect of the book a bit better.
Thank you for your comment! I understand your opinion regarding Miguel and I have to say I agree. Thank you for all your kind words too 🥺💗
That the point why they don't make Richard the villain like in the book i pretty don't understand the change !
As soon as I finished this movie I took to fanfiction and bought the book so I could read it... all I know is I want a sequal to this movie stat in it where both alex and henry are living their truths out and proud
yes same here
"I'll break the sound barrier for you" 😢❤❤
Don't settle for anything less 😭🖐🏻
Couldn't agree more!
Top 5 Favorite Scenes (if I have to choose):
I resonate with everything you said in this comment 😭🙌🏻 (Thank you for taking the time to engage with me btw!)
Except for the missing scenes I already talked about in the video, my biggest disappointement lays in the quotes from famous queer love letters not being included in the movie.
Thank you. 🥰

The one shot looking down at the cake after it has fallen seems to suggest the two of them on the TOP of such a cake (as little figures of course).
Oooooh nice observation :O
Aww thank you 🥺💗
2:55 I’m watching this on Silvester eve to avoid my family, and this moment convinced me to go refill my eggnog
Wonderful reaction. Thank you
The bisexual crisis was probably my favorite part of the book, and I am so sad it got pretty much entirely cut
I think the main reason they added the reporter is that it allowed them to save time by removing two characters and the plot lines that went with them. I understand, although I think the transition into their relationship didn't work quite as well without the bi panic
The romantic scene where they were dancing to Get Low and everyone else got low and their eyes met across the dance floor was actually insane, but in a good way
I'm also sad we didn't get to see the bi panic unfold in front of our eyes, but like I pointed out in the video, Alex does have one technically even if his scene with Nora doesn't exactly go like it does in the book.

Loved your breakdown on when Alex first claimed his bisexuality, it was one of my favs. such a subtle but lovely way to show that very REAL way alot of us in the queer community come to terms with our sexuality every coming out tale doesn't need tears, or applause or a traumatic moment all those things are still very prevalent in the community but IT IS getting better and it's important to feel as "not a big deal" about as the movie made it I love love LOVED that
This movie will be a gamechanger and these times right now will be written in history.

I would kill to watch the whole 3 hours PLEASE!
La mejor pelicula, sin duda,la actuación es de otro nivel.
the movie and your reaction is great! as usual, I personally just have a little feeling of emptiness after watching the movie, I'm missing something. but it's normal in the end, you can't adapt such a big book without removing parts.

I want to say I'm sorry but I'm mot 👀🤣
okay last thought...
I personally think it's deep, tasteful and poetic 😔
the best review ive seen
oh wow, thank you 🥺
I honestly love most of it, but I really wish they hadn’t removed the queer representation in Nora. I loved how unequivocal Alex is in his telling Zahra that nothing would stop him seeing Henry.
Same :( I wish the scene with Nora and Alex talking about the kiss was closer to the book one 😔
Yeah, that boy said “no” with zero hesitation and absolute certainty! And to Zhara’s credit, at least she asked instead of demanding, and accepted his decision without fighting or arguing about it.

As much as I get that some things are missing from the book- for me for example the depth of the email so people understand how they have grown- I think some things are better like Henry standing up for himself to the king and Alex’s speech. @@lovemyshelf please don't misunderstand me - I enjoyed the movie also very much ... especially the character of Zahra - I reeeally loved her. … and now I will re-watch the film again…❤

It just made me want even more, because this was so good!

i love how the ad on this vid was a beer commercial promoting the “red white and blue” southern misogynistic america and this is a red white and blue gay film
After figuring out he was bi, Alex understood he might have had a crush on him but nothing ever happened between them 😭
I wish they had included the story of the young prince.
Greetings 👋
Watch the little scene after the credits friend!
WHAT ABSBWJDNSNJS I EVEN CHECKED TO MAKE SURE I DIDN'T MISS ANYTHING I'M GOING TO SJSNDJ
A little fun fact:
1) A nation with a Royal as the Head can avoid a nuclear war.
@@lovemyshelf, like I said - I respect your views. So all good 😊
Amazon required them to keep the movie to just two hours long, and I suspect a series was way out of the question.
Just saying…
🇺🇸🇬🇧🏳️🌈❤️🤍💙
I would LOVE to see a musical adaptation actually 🥺
The movie was supposed to be a 3 hour film.
Only we can do is wait.
Nope it wasn't! The dirrctor cleared that rumor out in an interview 🥰
Just for your information, the author of the book had a cameo appearance at the end of the movie. When Alex looks into the office where his mom is with two other women, writing her concession speech, the woman typing on the laptop is author Casey McQuiston.
Not a woman then since Casey is non binary 😭✌🏻 But thank you for the info! I'll look for them!
💖💖💗💗
when are you going to finish heartstopper no rush just wondering love you
I have filmed all my reactions to s2 on the same day. The reason I "paused" is bc I was editing my reaction to this movie and bc I have a life lol so I can't be editing 24/7 😅 My reaction to episode 3 should be up this week tho!

@@lovemyshelf oh..
Hello, have you seen the movie Tarzan The Fearless?
Only parts of it back when I had film class, but tbh it doesn't interest me at all, sorry x
where did you watch the movie?
amazon prime but i screen recorded the movie on kisskh for the reaction
I love that you just skipped the “annoying Miguel conversation” 😂😂 I’m SO over that character’s addition to the story. I’ve been pretty understanding of the director’s reasons for some of the many jolting changes from the book. I understand cutting or combining characters for simplicity to focus on the story of Alex & Henry. But to ADD this Miguel nonsense? I so wish they kept Rafael Luna and used the onscreen time with Miguel for Rafael instead. Plus it just makes way more sense for a policitcal campaign to hack emails, rather than a disgruntled gay reporter.
i have very mixed feelings about this movie. it was good as a silly little queer romcom, but as a book lover, i can't help but feel a bit disappointed. i know it's an adaptation and it's never gonna be 1:1, but i feel like they could've done better imo
as long as casey is satisfied with the final product, tbh that's enough for me 😔🙌🏻
I actually think they messed up a lot of the banter, the politics, and the relationships.

Couldn't take the reaction, Too much preaching and explaining
Good for you! Thanks for spreading negativity instead of just clicking out of the video and moving on to another one! ✌🏻
@@lovemyshelf Oops! Sorry, my bad! My mistake being unaware that the only two acceptable options for the Comments section were either Applause or Shut up.
@@sobelou Oops! My bad! I didn't realize my content needed to be specifically catered to you 🥺 I also apologize if you were under the impression that your negative feedback was going to mean anything to me :( But that's okay, I'm sure you'll find other reactions that will meet your standards perfectly 😊
@@lovemyshelf I already have, thank you. I wish you well.
