  • The Game Gear has some amazingly dancefloor-ready arrangements that are stuck inside a doorbell tier sound generator. Today, we’re giving some 90s synths to these tunes. Time to jam.

    Funny how neither Nintendo or Sega thought about adding a sound-only mode to their portables turning them into a Walkman for game tunes.

      I mean... Sound Tests exist 👀 at least that's what I did as a kid, if you're lucky the game would have them in the options menu and you can jam out to your hearts content.

      The funniest version of this is Kirby Canvas Curse on the DS. It has a soundtest but it also has a secret feature where if you close the lid it will still keep playing music. And since the sound test is so fully featured it'll just keep going through the songs. So yeah, just a little walkman for kirby music.

      Some did in the 2000's. EA games featured a dedicated music player from the main menu during the PSP/PS2 era. Need for Speed on PSP is what i remember the most.

      Game Gear did have an FM radio tuner attachment, which is at least close. But yeah, having just the game music blasting from your device would have been awesome.

    When that Coca Cola Kid track showed up I immediately though... hey, that is Cubik again...and then you proceeded to show Sonic 2 boss and mention Cubik. I'm absolutely delighted to see you give Sonic2 8 bits OST so much love, its probably my favourite on the series ( the game is, no doubt) and not many people tend to acknowledge how good it is ( at least, the music. We can argue about the game, specially on GG). When Sonic in 8 bits OST its brought up, the conversation is almost exclusive about the first game, by yuzo koshiro. Who is brillant, indeed. But there is so much more and I LOVE to see it reflected here.
    This mixes make me so happy. Thanks for your hard work, GST.

    If you ever want to do a follow-up to this, please consider the first boss theme in Batman Returns at the very least. Given how out of line that game's soundtrack in general was with the rest of the franchise, I can't help but wonder how the composers imagined it, and especially that song, to sound like before creating it in 8-bit.

    Where can we get a full length version of the Gigapolis track?

    • @GSTChannelVEVO
      @GSTChannelVEVO  7 месяцев назад +3

      This is the fullest length version that exists, sorry to say. I might extend it, but I hesitate to promise anything since I'm extraordinarily bad at finishing those. I have several extended arrangements that are stuck at 80% complete 😓

      @@Afrotechmods I'm happy with it too! it was already one of my personal picks for something to extend... I just don't know how far that'll go.
      still though! I'm glad to see it resonate with others

    Surprised Yuzo Koshiro's Shinobi GG 1/2 tracks didn't make the cut.
    Still, a great selection overall.

    • @GSTChannelVEVO
      @GSTChannelVEVO  7 месяцев назад +2

      yeah! when working on this, I initially added a string layer, then thought "hmm I feel like I copied this from somewhere". It was straight from "Death by Glamour" lmao
      It's even wackier because I had previously remixed that UT song with a similar palette, including that same M1 piano patch.
