Smt. Alessandra Pissa brilliantly performed the Bhatanatyam version of Muthuswamy Dikshither
Kriti. The full costume may be added more beauty to the performance. However it is a great creation. The play back musicians are als excellent. Congratulations.

I actually think her abhinaya is excellent, especially considering she is a foreigner..but even otherwise ! it is subtle, pure and sincere, probably a reflection of the dancer's personality !! The whole dance is so technically perfect, AND at the same time with pure satvika abhinaya and so elevating ! You are not just a great dancer, but a divine one !

Beautifully danced, with grace and excellent abhinaya. The song here, Ananda natana prakasham, is a composition of the great composer Shree Muthuswami Deekshitar, in praise of Shiva, the deity of Chidambaram, in the form of Nataraja, representing the element Akasha. It is in raga Kedara, and set to mishra chapu tala (seven beat cycle). Hindu scriptures, especially Traittiriya Upanishad, states that the entire universe is composed of five elements: Air, space, water, fire and earth. In South India there are five important and very holy Shiva temples; in each temple Shiva is worshiped in the form of one of the five elements. This kriti is in praise of Nataraja representing the element Akasha (space). The composer uses the word Dahanakasham, refering to the space within a devotee's heart: Nataraja is supposed to be dancing in ecstasy in a devotee's heart. Isn't it such a wonderful, ennobling and mystical thought? The vocalist has sung the kriti very melodiously, with bhava, and his bhaava laden singing has contributed immensely to the over all effect of this magnificent dance. But I wish he were a little more careful when pronouncing Sanskrit words: He says Bhusuratri sahasra muneevaram: It should be Bhusura trisahasra (three thousand) muneevaram. It is a minor thing, I know; but it changes the meaning of the line. Why am I quibbling about this one word? Because the word trisahasra (thee thousand) has a special significance: The puranas say that three thousand munis( holy monks) walked from Kailasa towards Chidambaram. The dance, however, was gripping, and full of grace, and very pleasant to watch.

+Yesh Prabhu Thank You very much for Your precise and careful comments. A true rasika's spirit. The composition is really wonderful, uplifting for the soul, mind and mystical as You said. Dancing it is a very wonderful inner/outer experience, i can say. The choreo is simply mervellous.
The vocalist sings : Bhusura trisahasra munIshvaram (He is the Lord -Ishvaram- of the three thousand (trisahasra) munis (holy monks). Thank You very much for the detailed annotation and for You beautiful comments on my dance.

@@alegopichandra Your sister sent me this link a while ago, took me a while to look! I am mesmerised, utterly, it is so like mime in some ways! I can feel the energy created by the movement , a little like QiGong, Thank you so much!
I was asking myself what story you were enacting, then read the comment above, which is wonderful; however i don't understand it really, maybe half of it ;) It would be good to have a more Western explanation for some people - what is kriti, what is kedaram . .
Not a problem, just watch and feel

    Dear Ms.Alessandra,
I came across your video, by chance. What struck me was the felicity of movements and the way mandalas such as Aayatham, Swasthikam, Prenkanam and Preritham fall in place with such precision and perfection, without losing the fluidity of motion in the process. Your footwork is exquisite. Of course, your entire performance is a treat to watch. Thank you for making it available in the internet.
