Y’all should do a podcast on the different shooting techniques between a bolt gun and an AR 15

One day my favorite, most used rifle, it's groups were all over the place. there was no group, just holes all over.....I disected everything around the optic and tried again. Still all over! So i adjusted my windage fired again... my shot was about 1" high from the prior shot.... never touched elevation. turned out... one of the 2 screws for mounting the stock was loose. Tightned it up and everything went back to normal. Anxity was killing me!

I remember when I got my Savage 10 in .270 Win. I like to hand load all my ammo, but I want to know there is a factory load it will shoot, so I took it to the range in September to get ready for deer season with 10 different boxes of factory ammo. I’m in Houston, and it was typical humid 90 degree day, and I was shooting a rifle with a thin sporter barrel. 3 shots and you could light a cigarette off it. I was there 6 plus hours and took less than 50 shots probably. I would take 3 shots, and if the group was bigger than 2” I would move on to the next box. If it was 1-1 1/2” I would let it cool and try to repeat it. Got to the 7th or 8th box (Hornady Outfitter) and shot 2 consecutive groups that were under an inch. Called it a day! Bought 5 boxes of it and that’s my factory load. Thing is, when I went to do load development, it was the easiest development I ever experienced! First time out, 1/2 grain under max load, at book listed OAL, I shot a .43” group! Confirmed the next week, and have never shot another round of Outfitter through that rifle!

It's always good to go over these fundamentals for even those of us who should know better. I'm assuming this podcast probably doesn't have a lot of newbies, but it should. Please continue giving Birth to these Golden Eggs of knowledge, no matter how painful it is.

Happened to me on a DDefense 6 ARC build a few months ago. 18in Proof CF barrel (suppressed) with JP bolt. That MF sprayed the first 30 shots all over the freaking place. Never seen that happen before. Cleaned and lubed everything again, then went on a second range visit, determined to fix the issue, all of the sudden, everything worked perfectly. Not sure how/why, but she dialed in now.

Buying different ammo to see what rifle likes, if noticed that the seating depths of ammunition used must be recorded, test seating depth with factory ammo!remember that you treat mag length as JAM! Log all shots for as much data as you can . velocity, seating depths, projectile weight and profile, etc... BOOM!

20:34 I have heard of other shooters and even military shooters who check and adjust zero. Just because it zeroed just fine in east Texas does not mean it is going to accurate or precise enough in Montana.
IIRC, accuracy is hitting where you aimed, precision is the tightness of the group.
Also, for cleaning, you have to clean down to the metal after shooting copper monolithic.
    Generally, always clean.

More thoughts from a boomer (literally a boomer thanks to when I was born.) Most of this can be described as shooter error. This includes failure to torque properly, select the proper ammo, dry fire practice.
Practice to have the most solid position or least amount of waver. I do dryfire practice from my tripod because that is how I hunt, whether seated or standing. And yes, on a hunt, I have dry-fired, just to get my head in that space.
Essentially, most rifles, excluding stocks, are accurate and even precise enough to hunt with. Everything else is the shooter. Everything. And sure, that hurts some feelings. Oh well, life is tough.

I think most peoples issue is they only shoot their rifle one to two times per year when it’s deer season and maybe one other time. Unless you’re shooting a lot and hunting a lot you don’t have enough exposure to actually even know how bad you really suck. I predator Hunt and hog Hunt two to three times a month. Deer Hunt and fill my tags and hunt a ranch that lets me cull their does and bucks each year. I also hunt out of state and I’ve killed a lot of stuff. That’s not even counting the times I’m practicing PRS or at a match or just shooting for fun. Until you get your exposure level pretty high your really just getting lucky, or your not. I’m a good shot, but I’ve missed a whole lot too.
I agree with you that probably 90% of the time it’s the shooter or what they did to the rifle to jack it up.

i became extremely proficient with all pistol and my rifles from my 22 pistol and 22lr upper for my ar, im in my early 20's with me being the first gun owner in my fam, watched videos learned I was cross eye dominant and a year or so later and 10,000 22's from walmart, theres no pistol i cant shoot, people underestimate how good you can get with all other calibers with 22, its all the same until the shot breaks, grip aim trigger pull its all the same

Wade I don’t know if you read comments but. I would like a in deep answer as to why my 300 Bo cold bore shot using subs ” real cold bore” first shot of the day, then in the evening is constantly 1.5- 4 moa higher at 125 yards. ( depending on ammo ). ex. Using stealth first shot always 1.5 higher than next, 208 a max always 2 moa higher. I have a range at my house and have tried this method more than I can count. Weird wait 2-3 hours or so and the change will be somewhere in between from completely cold and 2nd shot.
I thought it might be me, 6 months ago I started dry firing 4-5 times before I shoot same results. So WTF is going on?
( 2) Ruger Ranches both do it gen 1 and gen 2

@@mckimmym I’m sure he was just joking. I certainly laughed. Of course I’m only assuming that due to the fact, chrome lines barrels aren’t as accurate as quality stainless barrel , and 300 win mag isn’t very good by todays standards. Ya know, legacy cartridges such as the 300 win mag having sloppy chambers, slow twist barrels etc. 🤷
