There I was, thinking I knew about this game, guess what, every single video of yours proves me wrong. 🤣 Excellent series, both your videos and the SaGa. 👀👌🏻

holllyyyy, so I just found out how vastly complicated the game is. especially, with learning techs. thanks for doing god's work and breaking down the mechanics. really wish more youtube creators covered this. as I went in thinking this was a traditional jrpg. with a traditional leveling system😂

Would love an updated video for the new Remake please, also a Guide to recommendations for each Character!

Thank you video! Was the most accurate information regards the skill system.
The spark system is really confusing to understand, feels like you need to play this game with an whole massive guide to understands just the most fundamental content.
Lastly regards sparking, sometimes using X skill(only your strongest skill) later on just stop sparking new skills, even if you meet all the character and weapon condition. Looks like to spark new skill, is more safer and effective you use the basic attack of the weapon to spark skills tho?

I believe that's true, yes. I try to use a lot of normal attacks during battles to help spark skills

Very informative. Can you tell me what exactly the 'tech points' that are shown after each battle do? Do they accumulate in the backround towards some greater goal. Or, are they just a reference, showing you what chance you had of learning a skill?

I'm glad it was helpful. They're used both for calculating your party members' magic and weapon level gains, as well as contributing to your global levels in those stats. I explain all this in detail in my Stats and Leveling video, check it out: ruclips.net/video/vQjPPRwO3gg/видео.html

You've mentioned in your videos a few times that information is available online, are there links anywhere? I'm trying to find a list of what all the skills do. I'm also wondering where you got a lot of the formulas/info from these videos. Usually sources like gamefaqs Walkthroughs and Fandom wikis don't seem to have much info.

Thanks for asking. While it often has incomplete info, the RS2 wiki is a good source for hard facts, like what skills do: saga.fandom.com/wiki/Techs_(Romancing_SaGa_2)
There are also Google spreadsheets floating around with full lists of game data, like characters, skills, etc. I don't have links on-hand, but they should be pretty easy to search for.
For formulas, I've used the RS2 wiki, cross-referenced with various English and Japanese forum posts, and done my best to validate them in-game. I haven't looked at the code, but as far as I can tell they're correct.
Most everything else is my own research. There's some decent strategy discussion on GameFAQs and other forums, but it can be hard to find. WeekendRisktaker's GameFAQs guide is very good and covers most aspects of the game: gamefaqs.gamespot.com/snes/588633-romancing-saga-2/faqs/31378

@@rpg_haven Awesome, thanks! I think I found the spreadsheets you mentioned, they are stickied on the GameFAQs snes discussion board.

Heya! I got a question. If your party dies before a generation shift, do techs the members have sparked still go into the dojo once a shift has taken place?

Is there some reason my Ninja, Shion, won't spark the Exorcism tech? I'd really like to get it, but even against high level enemies giving 2k+ tech points - including undead and demons - she just won't do it, and her skill slots aren't full either. She's type 1, which should be fine? She came with a Greatsword too so...
Also kinda curious, are enemies hitting way too hard a sign of a LOW battle counter? I know it's possible to overgrind, but I actually haven't done much grinding at all except occasionally inside the Maze of Memories which isn't supposed to count towards your BR.
I've beaten a few of the heroes, was gonna go after Wagnas but thinking I'll hold off on that for now and instead do Dantarg, my counter is sitting at around 850 battles and I'm on my 5th emperor - only done 4 generations though as I took dark magic which caused my Emp. to abdicate

It's been a while so I'm fuzzy on the details, but there's probably other places you can explore with easier enemies, even if you think you've gone everywhere. Happened to me a few times. Otherwise, make sure your gear is up to snuff and that you're using an appropriate formation.
You can and should grind, too, just make sure you're training the weapons and magic you plan to use longterm.
I saved Wagnas for last because I heard he was tough, and he is, but he's not too bad. If I remember right, his storyline involves unlocking a sweet new class, too.
Haven't used Shion much but it sounds like you may just be getting unlucky there. Exorcism is hard to proc. In my experience, skills are about using what you happen to get instead of going for specific builds, but that may be because magic is so damn good you don't need all the best skills.

@@rpg_haven yeah if you get all the instruments instead of using the helicopter you get the harpy people or whatever they are.
I feel like I might actually be blitzing the game waaaay harder than intended lol, i.e. punching above my belt as even the normal encounters have mostly been super dangerous making me save and reset constantly (I'm actively avoiding losing characters and I know it can be beneficial to let them go) but I've managed to clear a lot of the scenarios with hardly any grinding - getting the Seven Sword early also helped.
I somehow managed to frag Roc in my first go, and the puppet guy. I did do a NG+ once as I felt backed into a corner, not looking to do that again with how far in I am.
It's a much better game than I initially thought, though I dislike how Magic is just far superior to weapons and there's so much conflicting advice online with regards to training multiple weapons - I think I would have been much better off sticking to one type and 1 element per character at least early on.

    • @rpg_haven
      @rpg_haven  Год назад +1

@@Malacite Focusing on one weapon per character is how I've always done it, at least until they get to a high level, then I'll let them train up another.
Same with magic mostly, although it takes awhile to level in RS2 so I like to get as much as I can early on.
It is indeed a very cool game. I love how magic is broken, but skills are almost as good. They just take more effort and some planning.

It OUGHT to be based on weapon level in some regard, so that the player has some kind of influence on the game.

Romancing Saga 2 is one of the most customizable JRPGs ever. You have enormous influence over most aspects of the game.
