the interpretation i have of the character being named Sol, in relation to the roman sun god, is that when you look at his life from the perspective of giving life, then what others around him perceived as failure were actually successes. E.g. the 'failed' vegetable garden gave life to the chickens, and thus to the chickens it was in fact a success. the 'failed' chicken farm gave life to the skunks, the skunks gave life to the virus, and Sol's death gives life to the worms who in turn give life to the soil for another vegetable garden to begin the cycle all over again
