I'm 40 and I've never been big on social media. I had a MySpace, but my sister created it for me. It was fun picking the background image, favorite song, book, movie, quotes, etc. Spent hours setting it up and then never really did anything on it. She set up my Facebook too. I would only use it to post pictures of my daughter for family out of state, but haven't done that in a few years...I don't like the idea of someone having access to my daughter's pictures. I really only go on RUclips and only in the last two years, maybe. I had the Sidekick and loved it. I didn't want a touch screen because I had "fat finger syndrome" and spent more time deleting than typing. I prefer to text or call people.
My daughter got a cell phone when she was in 4th grade, but only because she had to walk to the bus stop by herself. She did get a Kindle Fire when she was 4 years old...she had it for about 5 years without breaking it and only had to replace it because the volume started messing up.

Thanks for sharing! How do you feel about your daughter having a smartphone in the earlier stages of school? Did or does she ever express really wanting one or needing one? Jealousy of other friends that have one? Do you get much pressure from other parents to get or not get a smartphone for your child?

@@JSteezy she asked for one because her friends had them. I told her I didn't have one until I was 18. I wasn't planning on her having one until at least 13, maybe high school age, but circumstances changed. She doesn't use it at school...only to text when on the bus that she made it okay. She is very responsible and has only needed a replacement once and is 13 now. I get more pressure from her about dying her hair...I tell her she can do the wash out kind now, but any bleaching has to wait until she is 18. She has dark hair so the wash out dye doesn't show up well.
