[Follow My Lead #02] ‘A Quiet Place’ written by the amazing Ralph Carmichael was another song that was featured on our debut album ‘Take 6’ from 1988.
A song that once I heard I fell in love with, but not until a few years ago I realized what it needed.

I never realised how your lead vocals were more "full voice" than falsetto. The reason is, this song is so beautiful that it doesn't matter. What you've done with A Quiet Place will be a part of jazz history forever and one of the reasons is your voice!

I love that story about noticing in the moment what you felt the song needed. On reflection, I can feel what I felt when I listened to that CD hundreds of times in the late 80s, and that song specifically. I remember noticing and feeling the power that came through b/c of your decision and it felt just right, especially in the context of the lyric and the feel of everything else about the song. It was like a beacon, and if you had been in partial falsetto, the whole thing would have been sweet, but much less impactful, I think. Thank you a million times for this and so many other gifts you've given us over the years. So many blessings.

I hope you know how sincere we are when we say how special your recording of this song is. For me, personally, it changed my life-no exaggeration. There aren’t many songs I can say have “gotten me through the tough times.” It was a confluence of so many small and large special things in that recording and arrangement that make it so. And yes, your personal vocal performance is one of them! Thanks for sharing.

I have to agree with Evan... The song has also turned into literally "A Quiet Place" I can go to when things are getting me down. A Quiet Place is one of the most legendary recordings in vocal group history and we do appreciate the series! Maybe there is something that just resonates with people named Evan and A Quiet Place haha

I was introduced to Take 6 music in 1989, the summer after my freshman year in high school. A couple years later, my name director handed out "Quiet Place." We only played it once, at the beginning of a pep rally. (I know...odd). The crowd got quiet to listen, and I loved the fact that they applauded afterwards. It's a great memory I have.

For whatever reason, I AM GLAD that you did. :-) I NEVER hated the way it sounded. I thought it was the best cut on that disk, and I can't even imagine how many times I listened to that CD.

What's up Claude! Just saw these guys in Berrien Springs MI a few weeks ago. Great background. What's really interesting is that it's very very hard to tell when Claude is using falsetto vs his normal head voice. I find that impressive. Most guys sound like 2 different people.

  • @natehash9237

I love the power and authenticity of that lead vocal. So glad you didn't record it in full falsetto. Conveys so much emotion the way it is. Really anchored to the lyric and meaning of the song

100% my favorite song ever! I owe that to you guys in Take 6. It's likely I would never have discovered this song if you hadn't done this incredible arrangement of it that I have transcribed on my own so I could sing it along with you. Thanks for that. :-)

Love the song , it’s the best rendition. It was wonderfully done , that’s why the other fellas let you sing that way because they knew that you have wonderful full and head voice . If not they probably would have told you to sing it the falsetto voice

Listen to the group POINT OF DEPARTURE song QUIET PLACE.. and listen to the girl that sings your part and take her under your wing!!!!
Years ago I heard quiet place from a jazz trombone player play that song at church... I couldn't believe it and then when your debut album came out, I couldnt believe quiet place and "if we ever" unbelievable recordings. You are your own worst critic but it was so amazing to me.
It was crazy to see your name on that album not too long after your brother Brian McKnight sing with Vanessa Williams on the 90210 album. What an amazing talented family

This is one of the songs that changed my life for the better. I was at the Seattle show earlier this year, and was waiting for you to hit that high note!🤩 I love the way you gave it a different approach. Hearing and seeing this performed live was such a #BLESSING I have business to attend in Georgia in December and while I'm there I can't wait to see the Athens show. I gotta hear "The little drummer boy" I pray God keeps you and the fellas safe, blessed, and able to continue to bring the world your blessings from God. #McRite #anointed and #appointed

I'll give you room to say you don't like your vocals on that particular part of the song (i thought it was absolutely great by the way) because you are entitled to your opinion, but I'm having a hard time understanding why you absolutely hated it 😱. I thought both the d and the dflat versions were da💣!!
