    Hi Pete,
    Here’s a suggestion for some new shows:
    1. Albums you loved when they were released, but haven’t aged that well and you don’t care about anymore now;
    2. Vice versa: albums you did’t care about when they came out, but through time you have learned to respect.

    Used to listen to vinyl so I usually pick a side (A or B & even C or D)
    *My picks:*
    *1)* U.K. - Danger Money (vinyl) - I love side two more than side one. When I reach for Danger Money to listen too. Automatically goes to side two (song 4 on CD).
    *2)* Bruce Springsteen - The River (CD) - Love Disc two (hate the singles). I don't listen to Disc One.
    *3)* Ambrosia - Life Beyond L.A. (vinyl & CD) - Love side A. Don't remember a song from side B.
    *4)* - Level Head - The Sweet (vinyl) - Just listen to side A. After "Love is Like Oxygen". Time to change the record. When I got the CD, I started to like side two as well.
    *5)* - The Wall - Pink Floyd (vinyl & CD) - The Wall is too long. But I just love everything on side A & B (Disc 1). I rarely ever listen to side C & D (Disc 2). Until I recorded the vinyl onto a cassette tape (for the car) that I listen to the rest of the album.
    Honorable Mentions (CD):
    *The House of Blue Light - Deep Purple* - Tracks 1 - 8
    *Aldo Nova - Aldo Nova* - Tracks 1 - 7

      I had to learn to appreciate the second side. Shockwaves has some stellar riffage and a great hook. I love Iommi's solo on Air Dance and the opening riff. I learned to appreciate Breakout because it's such a bold departure. In a very unexpected setting or weird dance party situation you're trying to endure, if Blackout suddenly blasted out of nowhere I'd be raising the horns. I'm now very glad Iommi had the balls to try the horns. Ward's song, Swinging The Chain, just goes in one ear and out the other.

    Cool episode as always. I do not have a lot of albums to add "on the fly", but I will mention that I do believe Boston's legendary debut was pretty front-loaded. The second half was definitely good, but Side A is just out of this world. One album which is the total opposite is Jane's Addiction's "Ritual de lo Habitual", where Side B is clearly superior to Side A. Oh, and regarding the track sequencing: I believe Lemmy once said that sequencing a record is easy. The big flaw of UFO’s No Heavy Petting was “A Fool In Love”, which was a cover (Frankie Miller song), a totally redundant and still inexplicable choice (if I read the remaster liner notes again, maybe I’ll remember how the hell they recorded that song). I personally love Highway Lady (and Paul Raymond appreciated it as well, as he wrote Just Another Suicide for the next record, trying to keep the vein of Highway Lady, as he said himself!). As for Martian Landscape, believe it or not, it was quite favorite on the “independent” (“pirate”) rock radio stations back in the 80’s-90’s in my home town (Belladonna was an even more huge hit) ! But I understand your point regarding the second side of the record compared to the first. Good show, guys!

But I'm glad you brought it into the light.. every one is entitled to their own opinion of course,..myself I actually enjoy side 2 more although I do agree the first two songs deliver a strong punch out of the gate. Add It Up? Blistering. Destroyer is overplayed but still sounds great LOUD on my stereo.Art Lover is a Ray Davies classic that probably couldn't get written today what with the creepy factor. A Little Bit Of Abuse is just ray at his witty best. Back To Front is when you need to get up and grab a beverage or snack, but Better Things does finish things up right and nice. I think the LP is a minor classic. And I think WOrd oF Mouth is even better.

    A lot of people here mention Defenders of the Faith, which I don't agree with. I mean, yeah, the A side has both Freewheel Burning and my favorite Priest song, The Sentinel, but I don't consider the B side to be that big of a drop-off. Night Comes Down and Eat Me Alive are at least as good if not better than Rock Hard, Ride Free or Jawbreaker. The two outro tracks are probably the reason people dislike the B side so much, and yeah, it's not the grand finale everybody was probably hoping for, but I don't think it's the worst outro either. Heavy Duty has a pretty nice riff and it's hell of a lot better than some of their other anthems, like United and Take on the World. And Defenders of the Faith is repetitive, yes, but it's shor enough to not overstay its welcome. It could have been better, but what we got isn't that bad, is all I'm saying. At least not to me.
    Also, this got me thinking about albums on the opposite end of the spectrum, that is albums that start weak and improve as they go on. The first album I thought of was A Matter of Life and Death. I've never liked the first four songs on that album that much, but after that, each song is a masterpiece or just about, in my opinion.

    Popoff and Pardo at it yet again with albums starting strong and starting to wane on side two. Great topic, gents, and another fun show. Van Halen's Fair Warning always seemed to drop off for me after Unchained. Yes, that is the start of side 2 and So This Is Love tries to revive side 2 a bit but the drop off of the other songs on side two don't provide the excitement or thrills that an early Van Halen record should give. Looking forward to the song ending discussion next week. Once again, thanks for another fine discussion and entertaining show.

    I've never heard it admitted but I'm sure Labels fronted loaded some albums. It tended to be the more commercial stuff - the singles are usually close to the start if not the first song on side 1. The proggers and more curious delved into the second side and found more interesting better gems and I think the musicians also preferred some of the second side stuff as well. Then again some of the 'fillers' were always planted on the second side. Depends on the bands of course and it definitely wasn't always the case with the big stars. Front loading tending to apply more to the commercially orientated, especially of the mid 70's onwards. Albums I can think of are: Queen - News of the World, Jazz; Foreigner - 4; Journey - Escape, Frontiers;

My most lop-sided album, from about the same time in the early 1980s, was "The Steve Martin Brothers" which was stand-up comedy on Side 1 and banjo music on Side 2. The last thing I wanted from Steve Martin when I was 12 or 13 was banjo music and I don't think that side got played more than once. I still have it and I listened to it again recently. The comedy doesn't hold up, but I appreciate the music now.

    Immediately I think Defenders Of The Faith by Judas Priest. I'm sure I could come up with more later.

      DOTF has an incredible side 1, production aside, but it never recovers and side 2 falls off really badly at the end with the weakest tracks.

      Not for me, I love the second side of that album. Maybe Heavy Duty/Defenders of the Faith is a bit of drag but the rest is solid. If I had to pick a JP album it would be Angel of Retribution. It's got Judas Rising, Deal With the Devil, and Worth Fighting For on the first side and then.....well....there's the rest of the album.

      I tought about that album but the only one I really don't like from side 2 is Heavy Duty/Defenders of the Faith (Heavy Duty at least has a cool riff)
      Love Bites and Eat Me Alive are both very good
      And some people don't like Some Heads Are Gonna Roll and Night Comes Down but I like both, especially Night Comes Down
      The biggest problem with the album is the production

    I'm glad you mentioned Highway to Hell, which I feel a bit the same way. However, I feel that For Those About to Rock (We Salute You) had an even bigger disparity between Side 1 and Side 2. All of the songs on Side 1 are great to awesome, with the title track a true classic. However, the entire second side is pretty much forgettable.

    Just listened to April Wine's Electric Jewels and it totally fits this criteria. The second side just dies, the first side is amazing.

    Heart "Little Queen". Barracuda, Love Alive, Sylvan Song/Dream of the Archer, Kick It Out for side one, then it starts strong with "Little Queen" on side 2, then drops off. I do like all the songs on this album, but there's clearly a difference in the strength of the material from side to side.

    The Only Way on side 2 of Tarkus is a gorgeous piece. I’m a huge ELP fan, and that piece is definitely in my top 20 ELP songs. A Time and a Place is also epic! Infinite Space is ridiculous though, I agree...and Are You Ready Eddy...sheesh!

    Producer Tom Werner said : " A1 -best song , A2 -second best song .
    B1 - third best song and for closer B5 you must finished with something great . Most weak spot is B4 and sometimes you must sacrifice that place "
    So in basic you need 4 good songs on album .

      Hmm...Interesting.....I always wondered why Dio's 'Rainbow In The Dark' was the second to last track on the 'Holy Diver' album!

    Another great Friday morning at the Fun House with Pardo and Popoff! As an album that is front loaded and then loses steam, I'll have to give it to the double album In your Honour by Foo Fighters. I give them credit for their ambition, with one disc electric and one acoustic, and disc two's acoustic stuff is pretty good, but not as good as the electric first half. If disc one was the album, it could have been a top 3 Foo Fighters album for me. Still great though.
