Its unbelievable how needlessly complicated this process is, you'd think choosing a tablet/mobile sized project would also render it that way by default. Thanks for the tutorial
I agree I just rendered at first, I thought I can see its vertical now, but it rendered as a 9X16 anyway. Ok so I went and did the custom template and now it wont render, it just says an invalid argument has been specified. annoying
Thank you so much for this! I have had never ending frustation with trying to make a 1920x1080 video short compatible. This was easy to follow so thank you!
I've tried so many times to figure this out, importing a 4K vid from my iPhone to my PC, and you are the only person that actually made this make sense and helped me figure it out~! Thanks so much! :)
Girl, thank you sooo much i just spent the last hour googling and watching other videos and was like WTF is this still coming out as a regular video. Im so glad i found this as i can now create and edit my videos for shorts
Awesome! I have been using Vegas for close to 15 years and this is something that I could not figure out. I edit for RUclips and TV but now these RUclips shorts are killing me. I can now use already filmed content to make a short. Very informative. Thank you!
I keep getting an error message when trying to render the video saying: An error occured while creating the media file. An invalid argument was specified.
I get that troblem too. The reason is height is limited to 1080 px. IDK why I can't to export in a high resolution 🤔🤔🤔 EDIT: I was using profile "Sony AVC/MVC", with MAGIX profiles I don't have that problem.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I've been trying to make shorts for ~6 months and had been previously unable to get Vegas Pro to render them correctly 😐 My problem was not using the MAGIX render format. Thank you!
First straightforward tutorial, thanks, frankly, you said how to set a video format and lots of video makers can't clarify this simple method clearly. Tested under Vegas 11.0 :) and works, so, no need a powerhouse for Davinci Resolve :P for Shorts.
For some reason this isnt working for me, when I adjust the height.. then click the template name box the height reverts back to the short height? same thing happens when I click apply or OK... its as if there is something locking the height? Any idea what I am doing wrong? thanks..
TY So much Kim. I figured out this by myself but was having problems with the pan/crop tool and also with the render giving me errors (this one because the codec I've selected). Gongrats on being you
cant believe i didnt figure that out for 10 years yet it was so easy. idk how i managed to miss that, im sure i tried the exact same thing already... and always thought its just not possible due to different pixel formats or something
Hi, I'm a Creator too. I must say that this explanation is simply wonderful detailed and very intuitive. thank you for helping me to be able to create vertical screen content with vegas. thank you!
Great lesson. Thank you BUT, mine says "An error occurred while creating the media fil etc... An invalid argument was specified... any help would be great thanks.
I have movie studio 13 which was the cheap version of Vegas back when I bought it. It won't let me change the dimensions in project properties. It jumps back to what it was as soon as I click off it. I can do the pan and crop as instructed. But it will only export as 1920x1080 letter boxed :(
I don't have the "Customize Template" button. This all looks a little different than what I have, so I don't know if it's my version that doesn't allow me to change this?
I was using a sony 1920x1080 template and doing the same exact thing as the video, just changing the resolution to a vertical one. I set the height to 1280 and the width to 720, but when I clicked OK it would automatically set the height back to 1080. Turns out I just to use literally ANY other template and it wouldn't do that anymore.
I don't get the option to not match the imported video ratio, any ideas how to change that? I've purposely made some vertical videos for Instagram, but can't seem to get this working at all.

I've been using Vegas for over 15 years but even I still need lessons like these sometimes. Thank you!
bruh
@@sav_z_ ?
15 years is to long to still need tutorials@@FromNothing
I have been using Vegas for 13 years and I didn't know how to make it mobile borders either.
So right with you.
That small comment about the videos already being sideways was what i needed thanks for adding that

Thank you! It was clear and short. I don't even talk English but every best tutorials and advices on the internet are in English.
Yes, but render frame height is limited to 2304 pixels, so you can't export vertical 4k video
Didn't realize switching from 1920 x 1080 to 1080 x 1920 would shrink it
Thanks :)
Now I can start making shorts
I keep getting an error message when trying to render the video saying: An error occured while creating the media file. An invalid argument was specified.
Did u ever figure it out??
same problem here :/
Probably have to switch to a different rendering template
I get that troblem too. The reason is height is limited to 1080 px. IDK why I can't to export in a high resolution 🤔🤔🤔

@@Keid.StudioI'm getting same error, I'm using Vegas pro 14 any solution for that ?
