- In this video I will be showing you how my dad and I painted my rims and valances black on my 2023 Toyota 4Runner. I will be giving you some tips and tricks of the trade, my dad worked in a paint shop in the auto body industry and has passed some knowledge on to me that in turn I will pass onto you guys.

This project takes about 2 - 6 hours.
⚠️ Make sure the weather is warm enough out for the paint to cure. You will need weather ideally above 60 degrees Fahrenheit or 16 degrees Celsius.⚠️
Things you will need:
1. A clean vehicle
2. Jack and jack stands
3. Paper towels (ones that don't leave debris)
4. Scuff pads
4. Acetone (no additives in the solution, some nail polish removers do work)
5. Deck of cards (trust me)
6. 1 can of primer
7. 2 cans of black (don't get the cheep shiz, it is thin and takes longer to dry, also higher chance of runs)
8. Masking tape
9. Paper or plastic for masking off the vehicle - Авто/Мото
Update!
1. Don't scrub your paint with brushes like an idiot. I now have ceramic coating and realize the errors of my ways.
2. My valence in the front is now pitted AF, meaning you can see the silver underneath very easily, I plan to get a C4 bumper installed on mine so I don't really mind, but I would suggest just buying black valances and having someone instal them for you VS painting them like I did. Or plan to repaint the front one every 6 of months.
Bingo!! I was just going to say exactly this!! Just buy black ones. The install is super simple and doesn’t look like garbage after a short while
Kiss from Chile 🇨🇱 🌶️ South American! I 4R the best car in the world!
Tip: Don’t use the car wash brush. It’ll scratch your paint/clear coat. Bring your own wash mitt. 🙃
O dear god
The car wash brush and sand paper had me grinning. Oh dear lord 😮
Awesome job, cool color on the 4Runner too. I subbed and liked this video, thanks for showing the steps and how it can be done.
The orinals look a lot better in your four runner
Very cool DIY .. thanks for the video !
Love your 4runner! I'm about to order one in the same color too :)
What brand of paint did you use and primer?
I used matching Dupi- color paint on my valances , they blend in better. But nice job with the black
This is what was in my mind all weekend lol but a burnt bronze like color
What color did u use satin or gloss black?
Some people use 600 grade with water to wet sand the valances
What exact paint and how many’s cans did you get??? Please let me know
I used Rustoleum trim black and Rustoleum clear coat ($10 and $13) paint. It's enough to get 3 coats of each on the valence panels
Chipping??
How does the paint hold up in the weather and car wash?
rims are fine, the front valence has become pitted and you can see the silver underneath
Why not Plasti dip the front?
Would have been really helpful to show exactly what paint was used
I hope you bought your father a steak dinner and all the beers he wanted ?.......for doing the paint work for you!
I liked the OEM color wheels better with the black accents especially, but to each his own, make it your own!
I always take good care of my dad. The man gets all kinds of gifts. He’s the best 🤘🏻
