  • In this video I will be showing you how my dad and I painted my rims and valances black on my 2023 Toyota 4Runner. I will be giving you some tips and tricks of the trade, my dad worked in a paint shop in the auto body industry and has passed some knowledge on to me that in turn I will pass onto you guys.
Check out my store: YotaRunner .com
This project takes about 2 - 6 hours.
⚠️ Make sure the weather is warm enough out for the paint to cure. You will need weather ideally above 60 degrees Fahrenheit or 16 degrees Celsius.⚠️
    Things you will need:
    1. A clean vehicle
    2. Jack and jack stands
    3. Paper towels (ones that don't leave debris)
    4. Scuff pads
    4. Acetone (no additives in the solution, some nail polish removers do work)
    5. Deck of cards (trust me)
    6. 1 can of primer
    7. 2 cans of black (don't get the cheep shiz, it is thin and takes longer to dry, also higher chance of runs)
    8. Masking tape
    9. Paper or plastic for masking off the vehicle

    Update!
    1. Don't scrub your paint with brushes like an idiot. I now have ceramic coating and realize the errors of my ways.
    2. My valence in the front is now pitted AF, meaning you can see the silver underneath very easily, I plan to get a C4 bumper installed on mine so I don't really mind, but I would suggest just buying black valances and having someone instal them for you VS painting them like I did. Or plan to repaint the front one every 6 of months.

Bingo!! I was just going to say exactly this!! Just buy black ones. The install is super simple and doesn’t look like garbage after a short while

Tip: Don’t use the car wash brush. It’ll scratch your paint/clear coat. Bring your own wash mitt. 🙃

I used Rustoleum trim black and Rustoleum clear coat ($10 and $13) paint. It's enough to get 3 coats of each on the valence panels

I hope you bought your father a steak dinner and all the beers he wanted ?.......for doing the paint work for you!
I liked the OEM color wheels better with the black accents especially, but to each his own, make it your own!
