Hi Rye. I love that cage. I just ordered some wire cones and bags from Amazon. I wish I had seen this video first. Now I know. Thanks and you both take care
Thanks for the helpful step by step instructions. Silly question - what did you use to cut the wire fabric cloth? You made it look so easy; I'm having a tough time and then it's no longer as smooth/flat.
Thanks so much for the video! I never would have throught of ziploc baggies! What ultrasonic device do you use for the rats? Is it weird i wish there was something i could use that would disturb rats but not bunnies?! Hahah i love having rabbits in my yard and i dont even mind squirrels (in all honesty i love squirrels so perhaps im biased, lol) as they dont seem to disturb the gardens either, but those darn pesky rats are BRUTAL! I'll have to make some more cages this summer, and I'm definitely going to measure your way so the cages go on the outside of the pot versus me having to wiggle them down into the pot soil 😁 thank you so much!!!
The ziplock bags are a game changer. I use the thicker freezer bags and have seen bite marks in them as the rats attempted to take a bite and had a rude awakening lol ... the fruit was dented but safe 👍🏼. Here's the Amazon link to the animal repellent a.co/d/6XhtEn4 The reviews are mixed. Regarding the cages, measuring to fit outside the pot is definitely the way to go. Thanks again!
Do you know if this method would work to protect a tall tomato plant? Looking to build some type of a rat-proof cage that would need to be about 6 feet tall. I would need to find a way to connect a couple of pieces of the hardware cloth together to make it tall enough. But I wonder if it would be too difficult to maneuver the cage to harvest the tomatoes! Thank you for the video!
No, I don't think a cage is practical for tomato plants. I use ziplock bags to protect the fruit clusters. It works well. ruclips.net/user/shortsF8oUShOiPmA?si=C8Ak8KYANhXLtiVT

Hi Karen, the cages have worked out really well to keep stop the critters from attacking our veggies. Take care, Ryan
Thank you for this video. My cabbage, collards and broccoli were destroyed in my garden. I will try these cages

What would you recommend for large raised planter beds?
These cages would work well in a raised bed.
What type of cutter/snipper are you using and what thickness is this welding cloth?
Here is something similar to my snippers a.co/d/huzstli
Here’s the hardware cloth I use … Amagabeli Hardware Cloth 1/4inch... www.amazon.com/dp/B015PD9IOU?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
