    You're rear strut bar is exactly how I did mine and caught shit for from people in the 3g group. Good video man mine was way rustier, I just dropped the whole rear subframe and had to cut it apart from there.

      I'm glad I'm not the only one! It looks clean and OEM that way. It's great. I like when aftermarket parts look like they were meant to be there.

    This video is UNBELIEVABLY well produced!! The time you took to set up your camera-work and focus on every small detail is super appreciated! I love that someone is making content of this caliber for the 3G Eclipse. Also I'm pretty sure my filler neck bracket is also filled with dirt and rust, so I'll have to inspect that some time!

    Pleasant surprise video :) you’re build was a huge reason I bought a 3g eclipse and got into manual and modding cars… realized it’s a lot harder than I thought and kicked off building up my own tools and buying and reviving a 2002 wrx. Can’t wait to see this restoration 🎉

    Quick note for anyone reading comments regarding rear strut removal, the part the bottom of the strut connects to is the work of Satan. For some reason, it's a separate piece that's threaded into the knuckle with the same twist as the bolt that threads into it and secures the strut on there, meaning it's one badly seized bolt away from all coming out instead of the bolt you should be removing. This would be manageable if the strut's lower bushing didn't like to fuse to that mount sometimes, making it difficult to get the strut actually off of that threaded piece when it's all out in one piece. It also has never been sold separately from the knuckle, meaning there's no reason for it to be a separate piece in the first place.
    If you are having problems separating the strut from this piece and don't feel like taking a Dremel to the strut's lower mounting ring and bushing, you can make your junkyard search easier by knowing that the 2g eclipse has the exact same piece.

      I appreciate you touching on this important, but niche topic. I was actually going to refer to this briefly as we are doing custom knuckle work in the next Eclipse build episode. Thanks for sharing your experiences with the community.

    Are there any tips you could give me for restoring the correct height ratio and camber when using cheap coilovers for my 3G? I've been driving on them for a year but shrinking the front coilovers to no exposed thread and maxing out the rear coilovers to their full exposed thread gives my ride more height in the front than the rear and the camber on the rear wheel, because of how low the rear is, is either too positive or negative (I'm not sure). Is there any way to add height to the rear coilovers and fix the camber?

    • @DrewMestel
      @DrewMestel  7 месяцев назад

      For the front SPC essentric strut bolt kits in tandem with camber strut plates on top should give you plenty of range of adjustability.
      For the rear, rear upper control arm camber kits allow for adjustment out from the top to reduce negative camber. Or, you can simple get longer bolts and add washers to move it outward on a budget. That's about all you'll need.

    Now you just need to run across a suitcase full of money and turbo it

    • @DrewMestel
      @DrewMestel  2 года назад +1

      Haha eh... perhaps that would be a waste of money. This will be a VIP style stance car when completed and has a low mileage bone stock 6g72, meaning going turbo isn't worth it. If anything I'll swap to the 3.8L and do an N/A build. I already have some parts for that. 👍
