My 10 year old daughter is super interested in learning Japanese, and I would like to take the journey with her as a bonding experience. I am just finding your videos and appreciate how thorough and easy to follow your reviews are.
Eduardo has been a Rocket Man for several years. Rocket has helped me learn several new languages. The Rocket Japanese sounds like another great language learning program. The grammar, writing and culture lessons are essential. Thanks TPI!
I think Japanese apps are extremely good but I believe that using Genki and watching videos that go through the textbooks helps me more with the language because unlike other languages such as French, it has different characters and multiple alphabets. None the less I think if you are learning Japanese with an app this would probably be my top pick.
I want to learn Japanese because I always liked their culture. In my young years I used to watch a lot of anime and some of it marked my life. I still listen to some songs from animes that are maybe older than most viewers of this channel. I found about Rocket Japanese after searching for other alternatives to JapanesePod101, duolingo and busuu and it picked my interest. I have the Pimsleur Japanese in audio, all five levels and I like them; but they lack the features of the new subscription based model and even that one doesn't seem to cover the language as good as Rocket. Thank you for reviewing Rocket Japanese. Keep up the good work 👏
I like listening to your reviews and I think you're very right about learning Japanese on Rocket. It seems like Rocket would give the best intensive instruction even though the lessons are longer than some other programs. Japanese is so artistic in the written form and looks like art instruction or backgrounds might be helpful too in learning to write in Japanese.
I recently started learning Japanese from Rocket Japanese app and its pretty good the Audio especially provides a lot of verbal practice. Well I'm a pretty much beginner and I hope to complete this course and then start buying some books for Kanji text. Thanks for the review, Arigatō Gozaimashita.
I've always been fascinated by Japanese culture, from its rich history and traditions to its innovative technology and media. Learning Japanese would open the door to deeper connections and understanding, allowing me to experience the culture firsthand. Whether it's exploring Japan, reading manga in its original language, watching anime without reading subtitles, or even expanding career opportunities in a globalized world, mastering Japanese is a key to a new world of possibilities. This course seems like the perfect tool to make that dream a reality!
Thanks so much for this review! I lived in Japan for most of the 90s but have only recently attempted to coax the dormant 日本語 out of my brain and through my mouth. So, I'm evaluating the different study options available ... options that were NOT available in 1991! Thanks again!
I’m a Korean learner and Rocket Languages does sound like a great option! I’ve known about it for a while, though I’ve always held off. You do really great reviews and it does seem that Rocket languages may be the best for me. Keep it up!
Great video, thank you 🙏 I want to learn Japanese because I have friends who speak Japanese. I find the language fascinating. I’d like to be able to speak and understand at least at a basic level.
That was an excellent overview... really persuaded me to have a deeper look to see whether it fits my learning style. Cheers. To answer the question: I have friends interested in Japanese music, and I'd love to be able to work through the lyrics as written. It helps that my sister-in-law is also Japanese!
I've been looking to learn a new language for a while and I only ever really knew about Rosetta Stone, probably because it's one of the more heavily marketed programs. It's nice to see your reviews and see all the different apps/programs out there that I never knew existed, if you're going to drop a lot of money on a language program you want to make sure your spending your money wisely. I appreciate your videos and what you guys do.
I want to learn Japanese for many reasons. My daughter is minoring in it, I want to consume Anime and Manga, I'd like to communicate with natives when I visit Japan. This looks like the course for me. Thanks for the great review. I'm happy to have discovered your channel by searching for this.
I am commercial driver in EU and next year i will be going on working holiday visa to japan for a year. Is rocket japanese something you can play on your speakers and study repeating for long hours of driving? Does it require internet connection ?
Yes, Rocket is good for learning while driving, and so is Pimsleur. I would say that Pimsleur's setup is better for the car with streaming through the speakers (they have special driving mode), but you can make Rocket's work just fine. I have used both commuting.
Thanks, i have tried their free lesson and its absoultely perfect for me ! Ill get Pimsler :) If you have a referal link that might help you i can buy it off it just post it here.
Your preference rocket languages or rosetta stone. I'd love to know. Is rocket structured for beginners to advance and does it teach hiragana kanji katakana. Thanks 😊 🙏 😊 🙏
I know a bit of Japanese and want to start one of these apps, but I don't want to go through lessons that teach me what I already know. Which of the apps have an intro test, to best guess which level I should start at, if any?
I want to learn Japanese because being 1/2 Japanese my self but never learning it is a bummer. On top of that the localizers are messing with the translations.
I'm half Japanese but can't speak. I never learned when I was young :( I want to learn Japanese to get closer to my rootd and this is my attempt to better myself and to make sure I'm continuously learning
I want to learn Japanese because I'd really like to be able to understand the lyrics to all the awesome Japanese music that's out there! 😄 I'm also a composer professionally, and many of the artists who have inspired me the most over the years are Japanese, so I'd love to be able to learn more about the culture that shaped the art they make. I definitely think knowing the language is necessary in order to open up the doors to that kind of knowledge/deeper cultural understanding.
Does anyone have a good microphone to use with this? I seem to get a lot of "No speech detected" messages from my computer, or it only seems to pick it up partially.
Thank you! for your review! I am trying the trial :) I passed already that phase of knowing basic words, some phrases and greetings so looking forward to learn more for small conversations for general use while traveling! I loved Japan when traveled back in Oct 2022 for the first time and coming back in 2024! This time I want to be able to communicate a bit better/more fluid Japanese and less google translate/basis words aka Japan-glish lol.
@@TestPrepInsight I just meant because Pimsleur seems to have been around for a VERY long time and has a pretty specific teaching method different from many if not most other programs. How long has Rocket Languages been around? Pimsleur was founded in 1963! 60 years ago. Amazing.

Rocket, for sure. It's still the best app I've used to date. It can take you from beginner to advanced.
Rocket seems pretty cool
This is a very detailed video. Great job. Helpful resource!
I have been eyeing learning Japanese for some time now. I'm really intrigued by Rocket from your review. The only true downside seems the steep price.
That really is the only downside. But with their discounts it can soften the blow

Which of the apps have an intro test, to best guess which level I should start at, if any?
I believe Pimsleur has an optional diagnostic to set your level...
I want to learn Japanese because being 1/2 Japanese my self but never learning it is a bummer. On top of that the localizers are messing with the translations.
I wanna try rocket to learn Japanese
Rocket is one of the best on the market in my opinion. Thanks for watching!
I'm half Japanese but can't speak. I never learned when I was young :( I want to learn Japanese to get closer to my rootd and this is my attempt to better myself and to make sure I'm continuously learning

Can I use this App on my native language or do I have to use it in English ? :/
I believe you can adjust the primary language.

Agree, sounds like a microphone issue. we never really had any issue with the speech software
Thanks! I want to learn Japanese to understand anime
Very cool, I see that cited as a reason pretty often. Thanks for watching!
It is JLPT level N5 to N4.

Is Rocket similar to or copying Pimsleur?
Not sure about copying, but def very similar!

I want to learn Japanese so I can have more enjoyable and meaningful conversations with my wife and her family
Very good reason to learn Japanese. Good luck!!
i downloaded at ipad and it only had level 1?
really? did you buy the bundle with all 3 levels? it should work on tablets. i used it on my tablet with no issue
@@TestPrepInsight Sorry, it has 3 levels but just has payment for level 1 only
I want to learn Japanese so that I can watch anime without subtitles and shock people as a white guy speaking it.
haha always fun :)
Isn't there anything in the course about kanji? You won't be able to read Japanese without knowing several hundred.
Yes, there is
