Kiersten white has such an interesting catalog of books she's written. Quite the variety Adding hideous love to my tbr. I TOTALLY agree being more interested in her than frankenstein itself. I think a woman writing such a taboo topic and getting published when it did is beyond impressive. The story itself just felt too old to me and focused too much on nature and stuff (which totally makes sense for the time) so i didnt connect to the story but the appreciation i have for its existence is huge!!

I was planning to read Frankenstein in October but it seems that time has got away from me so will be reading in November instead. Though now I may have to pick up Hideous Love! 🤣 Also I find it incredible that Mary Shelley was only 18 when she wrote Frankenstein - talk about setting the bar high!

Frankenstein/his monster aren’t my favorite of the classic monsters but the story of how she came up with it is so cool! Did you watch Westworld? It definitely declined in quality by the end but in the beginning it was a really interesting examination of sentience and where life begins, and who is allowed to make that decision, and if there are any reasons that are good enough. Never Let Me Go also plays with those ideas a little. Like which lives have more or less value? Which lives are worth saving? And are we allowed to interfere? And of course Penny Dreadful gave us an unnecessarily gorgeous Victor Frankenstein and a monster that’s actually accurate to the book. It’s wild to see how influential certain stories become! I think I’ll always be partial to vampires but it’s awesome to think about Mary’s huge impact! Never stop this Halloween series, these videos are the best!! 💜👻💀🎃🎃🌺🌺🌺🧙♀️🧙♀️🧙♀️🌺🎃🎃💀👻👻💜💜🍂

Ohhhh Ya know what if you do pick it up again I would HIGHLY recommend reading it in conjunction with the audiobook version narrated by Jim Weiss!!! I listened to this version while I read along and he really brought the story to life!!! (but I TOTALLY get that with classics a lot too where they just read so dry I cant get through them...like Ive been trying to finish Wuthering Heights for years with no luck 😅)
