    Love how he just lays there all the live long lay and lets mama do all the work or half the work, he's a good boy and gorgeous schnauzer!

    Thank you for showing this! One of my standards has always been handstripped because I prefer his natural wiry coat. The other one I have was already shaved when I got her. Despite learning how to handstrip and lots of practice, I never became good at it myself but was lucky to have a fantastic groomer who has decades of experience with handstripping and treated my dogs well.
    Unfortunately we moved out of state so I had to find a new groomer that could do handstripping (it is a rare art outside of the show dog world). While the new groomer did a good job my dog does not like going there. Since I have never been allowed to stay I have not seen how the new groomer treats him so I only have my dog's behavior to go by. My dog loves everyone - he has never ran away from anyone and I know my dog very well. I don't want to accuse the new groomer of anything so I just decided not to ever take my dogs back there. So I have made the very hard decision to shave my handstripped dog 😢 My dog's safety and happiness takes priority over my preference for his natural wiry coat. Your video has given me an idea of where to start and the blade size to use. Unfortunately my dog is pepper & salt so he will lose his wiry pepper and salt coat and become a cloudy grayish color so we'll both have to adjust.
    Sorry for the long post - just wanted to say thank you for posting an actual standard schnauzer being shaved.

    I’m starting to think this isn’t the breed for people who don’t care for grooming their dog.

    • @carlapeterson3683
      @carlapeterson3683  3 года назад +2

      Definitely. This breed is high maintenance. If you don’t brush them Mats will develop. Many grooming appointments every year.

    He looks good. Can I ask your thoughts on going from a mini to a standard? I was thinking of doing the same.

    • @carlapeterson3683
      @carlapeterson3683  3 года назад +1

      Hi! Thanks for the comment. I have personally noticed a difference between the breeds Both bark a lot, maybe slightly less with a standard. You still need to socialize and socialize a standard. Most differences is a standard has Way more energy. They want to be outdoors, fishing, camping, hiking. They want to do very active activities. Our standard was really hard the first year. His demeanor was tough. Always trying to see what he could get away with. There has to be a alpha male in charge or he will definitely try to be one. After a year he really changed and turned into the best dog. If you looking for an active dog, a standard would be a great fit.
      Cash is 3 and still requires a lot of walks, playtime and attention. Our mini was more chill than Cash. Good luck on whichever you choose.

      @@carlapeterson3683 Than you so much. I’m definitely not ready for a standard yet. I don’t have the room or the energy. My mini was the best. He was a big boy. He hardly ever barked and was content with a little bit of play and a lot snuggle time.

    Greetings and congratulations on your patience with this wonderful dog. Schnauzer is not a dog for everyone. By cutting a schnauzer, you create a special bond with your dog. My Schnauzers are always cut by myself. I enjoyed watching your video and the wonderful dog. I want to suggest you some tips. Watch the temperature of the blade, especially in the summer, as it can get very hot and this bothers the dog. Especially when you cut the dog's head and ears. That's why I use two or three blades of the same number and change them as soon as they warm up a bit! Heating of the blades is a sign that they need to be lubricated. I think the 7F blade size is much better for the body than the 10.

      Thank you so much and thanks for the tips. Having more than one blade is a great idea. I haven’t tried a #7 but will give it a try.

    How often will you do a full groom like this ?

    • @carlapeterson3683
      @carlapeterson3683  3 года назад

      He needs to be groomed every couple months. In the summer I will do his back and face more just because it is so hot. In the winter I only do his face so he can stay warm. He is usually a mess come spring. Because I groom him myself, I have been known to be lazy and wait 3 months😬. It's a lot of work.

    Do they shed alot? Or at all?

    • @carlapeterson3683
      @carlapeterson3683  3 года назад +1

      They are not supposed to shed. They have hair not fur. My dog has a double coat so it's super thick. I feel like he loses more hair than normal. Maybe it's because I don't brush him enough. If I grab his hair it does not come out in my hand. I guess I'm trying to say it not a lot but I definitely find it in the house.
