  • For USD medical biology freshman Steven Wilson, singing the National Anthem isn't just about honoring his country, it’s also about honoring his heritage. Watch as he sings the National Anthem in Lakota at the South Dakota Coyotes Women's Basketball game vs. Michigan State in the WNIT Sweet 16. #GoYotes #MyUSD

Great job by an outstanding young man
Speaking your native language is very awesome, let alone singing the national anthem
Wish there was more like you, alot of the younger generation don't speak their native tongue
All they care about is that cell phone in their hands

Love when events like this consider the indigenous peoples near them. This is amazing here in AZ we do this in many events. We call the Dine Nation, Apache Nations, Pima Nations to bring rejoice with the singing of our National Anthem in many Native Languages.

So awesome! I love this, an original American singing the national anthem of this country in his language of his ancestors who have seen so much and been through a lot! Many of their people in more modern times have joined up in the military to fight for this country, it is still theirs and belongs to them too! I love the sound of the Lakota language, it’s so smooth sounding!

It would be nice if the natives such as the Lakota Sioux had the funding and ability to teach their language on the reservation schools to their people, and that their schools were equally funded as the rest of the public schools.
What I'm trying to say is it's a little much to ask for their language to be mandated in the regular state run public schools when they only represent a (I'm assuming minority) percentage of the populous, however them being able to teach their people and/or having Lakota elective classes would be wonderful.
