    PFFT!!!
    Try to keep in mind that Seth MacFarlane writes from the perspective that many of us Americans grew up with. The sort of things that we were exposed to in the 70’s, and the early 80’s. Things like Benny Hill (the Yakety Sax police chase for example) 70’s Doctor Who, Monty Python, and things like Master Piece Theater which was shown on what we know as Public Television or PBS. -Much of that WAS the “stuffy, posh,” accent. Little of what we were exposed to, was actual British common existence.
    I really enjoyed watching your reaction to this. I will be back 😉

      @iviui2d3i2 Год назад +2

      @@emilyrose9760 right, the generational gap crossed my mind as well. The creator(s) of Family Guy were mostly Gen X'ers and, even now, the show still retains a fair amount of their trademark 'can't take the heat; get out of the kitchen', offensive, dark, gallows humor etc., (though it's still been very much neutered). Although they have shelved many older episodes from being re-aired, and toned down the edge quite a bit, nevertheless the writers have found some smart ways to 'hide' many gags that simply aren't allowed to be said, nor laughed at anymore (at least not during the 'season' we're currently in as a society). Being forced to think more creatively to land a joke on a specific target while simultaneously going over the heads of gatekeepers somehow makes it worthwhile by pushing what would've been an 'okay' joke into something funnier, like the 'tunnel scene' here where the 'joke' sneaks up on you and manages to tickle that 'if you know, you know' spot in the brain.
      Censors have always unintentionally turned good writers into great ones.

In the UK, everyone guessed that I was from Australia, South Africa, or from some far-flung part of the Commonwealth--except for one woman who described my accent by saying, "It's rather like Forrest Gump, isn't it?"
      😮
      I had to admit, "Um, he was mildly ret***ed, ma'am. But yes, he was supposed to be from Alabama." I'm still salty about it 23 years later.

    Dude you're awesome. The fact that you actually used the word "posh" to describe the way they talked made me laugh. I honestly don't think that word has ever been used casually in any social circle I've been apart of in my life that I'm aware of. Of course I know it and have heard it before, but like I don't think I've ever used it in a sentence. I think the word fancy got substituted out somewhere in history for us and it replaced it. I love the English language... And seeing how time and distance changed it due to different perspectives.A

    Not sure if explained, or if you really didn't realize it but in america for years people focused on orthodontics as well as general dentistry but in UK they didn't really care about tooth appearance, just oral hygiene until the 1990s so it became a comic stereotype of the brit with bad teeth like austen powers even though the dentistry techniques are similar all over now.

    One thing to keep in mind about Family Guy is that the show revolves almost entirely around Peter; Being a 70s kid and 80s teen, his perception of the world (and thus how the world is represented in the show) is heavily influenced by a lot of 50s, 60s and 70s movies... For instance, a good deal of English/British characterizations can be found in movies such as Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, Journey to the Center of the Earth and so on; The comedies of Peter Sellers, the British prisoners from _The Great Escape, The Prisoner,_ even Monty Python and other Brit shows that appear on our various PBS channels, _Excalibur_ and _I, Claudius,_ all jumbled together in Peter's confused head and thrown onto the screen for us all to laugh at.

      @@BlakeN-o6l The whole 'British teeth and food are bad' actually originates from WW2. This was when rationing was going on, and had been for a few years. So, understandably, food was in short supply (as well as basic necessities, such as toothpaste). When American GI's visited Britain, they thought that that was how it always was (when it couldn't be further from the truth). So, us Brits had to make do with what we had, which resulted in meals with less ingredients and were made to be more suited for storage in colder weather.
