One of my favorite of the lesser-known Ozzy-era Sabbath tracks. You mentioned effects - I've done the fade-in echo effect ("obsessed obsessed obsessed..." ) on both analog and digital equipment and surprisingly, it's usually quite a bit easier to do on analog equipment. Dig the reaction.

How do you do it in analog?

@@arijokimaki4315 flip the tape. You run the tape backwards (by flipping it) and aux the channel you want to effect through an echo (these guys probably used a tape echo) and bounce that to another track. That records an echo of the reversed audio, so when you flip the tape back right way 'round, you have a lead-in echo.

@@BlindLemonLipschitz Ahh, ok, quite simple. 🙂 I have done some backwards stuff back in the days but it didn't occur to me to use it like that. In those days one had to be inventive.

This dives into the mind of someone grappling with fantasies of power and control, which brings on a sense of loneliness and disorientation. As they face their obsessions, past errors, and inner battles, they experience a shift towards self-awareness which enables them to break free from the harmful grip of megalomania.

Funny you should mention them. This song was a pretty good crossover with BOC. They toured as a tandem for a year or two. The Black & Blue show, they called it.

This is why Sabbath is considered the pioneers of metal. Were not afraid to experiment with new sounds and lyrics. Amazing album describing their account with record companies and a big F U.

Judas Priest inspired them, pre dated them by almost a decade.

The photo is based on a painting by the French surrealist Rene Magritte, or referencing somehow.

Thanks for the excellent reaction. A fantastic song off the brilliant Sabotage album. Amazing how they changed for the next album Technical Ecstasy.

They put out a live album names Past Lives. I think I like that version of Megalomania even more than the studio version. It’s definitely worth a listen.

This is one of the songs I chose for my "Blackest Black Sabbath" tape. I think most Sab fans would agree with having room on a such a (90-minute) tape for this one. It's quite an effort by the band. I like it.
