This was one of the more violent games I've played in a while. Over all I think l did fairly well, considering the time crunch l was under for most of the later game.

Yeeeeah. That was a rather unfortunate blunder. Also, I’ve not heard “bottled” used as a synonym to “messed up” but l like it. Imma be stealing that word.

how does check mate work here?

It works the same as in traditional chess. When a player is checkmated, all their pieces turn grey and are “dead pieces” which can’t move or capture, but still block living players’s moves and can still be captured (but for 0 points). A checkmate is also worth 20 points.
