Thing I noticed, Riley (a child) is ruled by joy. When we see the parents emotions, the mom is controlled by Sadness and the dad is controlled by Anger
All the emotions are necessary, including fear. Learning how to control fear can be difficult. Too much fear IS a pain, but fear also keeps us safe. someone who truly fears nothing will live a short life. No sense of self-preservation.
It isn't even "working together" yet: it's giving Sadness permission to act at all. Joy isn't working together at this key moment: she's surrendering control to the emotion that's been shoved aside.
I love the way they set this movie up. Everyone assumes sadness is the problem, but in actuality, you can’t feel genuine happiness/joy without sadness. You need both to feel the other. Too much of both doesn’t work and leaves you empty in other aspects, and Joy had a problem in the beginning of trying to be the only emotion Riley ever felt. That’s why Sadness was so vital in helping Riley heal. I just love this movie and how it dives into mental health, because it’s so well done ☺️.
An intrusive thought is what happens when say you’re walking along a bridge and you see some idiot looking over the edge and you think “what if I just pushed that guy”
@wolfe_tactics9075 Nope, everyone has them. It's like the urge to do something impulsive and knowing the outcome will be bad. Most people don't follow through on them
I love inside out cause I feel like it’s a realistic representation of mental health and how it works differently for everyone This was a great reaction I really loved watching this video ✌🏽💯 My favorite is joy 🤩 and disgust 🤢 3:15 I feel you on that man 💯
It kind of disappoints me that you didn't include and comment on how Sadness does help with Bing Bong, when Joy is ineffective; and how Sadness begins to answer Joy by saying that Bing Bong felt sad and so she listened. This is an important detail and development, and I'm a little afraid that you missed it, especially when you seemed to approve of leaving Sadness behind. I hope you can watch this again, and track the line of evolution between Joy and Sadness. I
Charlie, not sure if your kiddo is a boy or girl but for girls, this movie is very accurate for a lot of them at this age. (I only have girls so I cannot speak on boy struggles) My dtr is 11 1/2 and this describes what she is going through to a T. She has always been sweet, shy and very smart. Very easy kid. Now, she’s so moody, emotional and struggling with who she is becoming. Some parts of her are still childlike and other parts are trying to be a grown up. I identify so much with Riley’s mom as so many moms do with tweens/teens. This movie helps so much to understand them. I also noticed that the parents were so distracted by the lost moving van other issues they didn’t notice Riley’s mental health suffering (not to blame them) until it was bad. This also helped me remember keep a close eye on my girls and talk to them regularly and see how they’re feeling.
There is no villain in this movie. The emotions are personified for dramatic value, but the movie is an allegory for a kid having to deal with complex emotions (namely depression) for the first time. Joy's antics are simply Riley struggling to remain happy in a time where sadness is overpowering. The story concludes with Riley finally expressing her true emotions to the people who care most, resulting in some sort of peace of mind for her.
@@CampCrystalCharlie okay, I feel like joy was the villain bc she wanted to be the main emotion, she didn’t want the other emotions to get their moment.
@@CampCrystalCharlieHi there! For me, Joy is the “villain”, even if there is no villain really, because she was suppressing other emotions, with a little help with Rileys’s parents saying things like “you have to stay our happy girl…”. From the beginning of the movie, we see that sadness wanted to touch the happy memories because sometimes when you remember a happy memory, you feel sad because that happy time passed and it won’t come back. Sadness was acting out of instinct and Joy was suppressing that. Toxic positivity is a real thing and is bad too, like all extremes are. You will notice, when you watch the second movie also, that as Riley matures, her emotions also mature with her and become more complex, like here Joy learns that sadness is important sometimes to process situations and feelings.
lol I love that you saw the mind workers vacuuming up old memories and went "Alzheimer's?" I guess in this depiction a lot of symptoms of Alzheimer's would have all your mind workers being very confused and removing the wrong things. Thanks for the reactions! I love how this movie presents depression -- because being sad isn't the same as being depressed. When you're deeply depressed, you stop feeling anything. You can't muster up the energy or the interest to care. Everything feels empty. Riley was almost there, but finally she indulged in her sadness instead of fighting it because she's "supposed" to be happy "for her parents". And when you let your sadness out... you feel better. Genius movie.
right from the start i always felt for sadness and understood her despite her occasional annoyance, i was very depressed/angry in my teens. some times u need sadness to experience joy
i really liked this movie. i related to some of it and questioned how things would be different if some of my core memories that i wished i never had didn't happen and how different or the same would i be. my family told me i had an imaginary friend but i don't remember him. it made me feel bad when riley's didn't make it though. i think this movie was saying you don't have to be happy all the time or force yourself to pretend that everything is okay because everything isn't perfect. but i liked how instead of the humans learning the lesson it was joy and the other emotions. i wonder what other people's emotions look like. goku, soilja boy, deadpool, dave chappelle, etc. when they said rem they were talking about sleeping. it's short for rapid eye movement. i think our eyes move when we sleep after we close our eyelids?...i don't know. lol the movie about the dog sadness was talking about might have been about old yeller, a disney movie from the 50's. i don't watch disney movies anymore, but i did see this one and i liked it. it's my 2nd favorite of all the modern disney movies. the 1st is big hero 6. i think you'll really like that one. why sadness look like carl from jimmy neutron though?
Everytime something happened my parents sent me to my room, felt like showing my feelings would get me punished now I just don't talk to them about what I feel anymore. 💁🏻
Awesome reaction Charlie 🎉🎊😂 please do flushed away next , emperors new groove , pocahontas , antz , a bugs life , Mulan , gnomeo and juliet , lion king 1 and 2 , elemental , dc super pets , secret life of pets 1&2 , boss baby
Emotions wise They showed disgust pretending to be not which showed sarcasm. Depression being when the control panel went out and she couldn't feel any emotion. But I think joy and sadness working together was Hope 🥹

A cool fan theory I saw said that the Mom's sadness has matured into "empathy" and the dad's anger has matured into "determination."
@@dlweiss that is cool, especially since it accounts for them generally being more emotionally intelligent.

REM is a stage of sleep, and yes, it's associated with dreams. There are a lot of studies on sleep and dreams, and it gets very fascinating.

So glad to see you again Charlie! 🙋🏾♀️ Love the standing Ovation for Inside Out! 🎉🎉
Ayyyyyeeee
Inside Out 2 was really good, and I honestly liked it better than the first one. Either way both movies are amazing 🙏🏾!!
An intrusive thought is what happens when say you’re walking along a bridge and you see some idiot looking over the edge and you think “what if I just pushed that guy”
