The problem is the march towards AGI ultimately leads to the economic worth of human intelligence trend to zero. The solution isn't to ban AI as we should have AI run the economy if it can do it better. We need a seismic shift in world policies driven by the philosophy of how we should live in a world where the economy doesn't need us.
our entire nuclear arsenal is based off of Old technology that cannot be hacked unless you send a physical robot into that location... That's why we depend on old style weapons instead of new ones because the new ones can be targeted as demonstrated by UAPs over nuclear ballistic missile sites... Since then we made all of our nuclear weapons work off of Old technology...
A large language model is simply just trying to figure out what the next word should be in a sentence what makes the most sense to give the user asking the question a response in a string of language that will sound very good. When you look at systems like rock that are actually training off of logical deduction and reasoning based off of physics and observed videos of reality then you have a far superior system that is more aligned to human observations and human reality.
Basic premise as of o1-preview we are at AGI BUT it is a paraplegic and like Schrödinger's cat it does not exist until it is observed. When you have an active session it exists, when you close or complete that session it no longer exists. ASI will be when each of these "existences" develop into a "hive mind" and gain continuity of existence, continual learning and goal seeking.
generally when you don't like a technology , you don't talk about it 24/7, also if you think it is dangerous , that means , at least it has a merit. So Gary's position is flawed since day 1. If anything is dangerous are these social media algos that promotes someone like him while obscuring prominent researchers with actual published works that are beneficial to everyone.
If you think the second amendment is about owning guns only you have been misinformed the word arms is short for armaments which meant the top military equipment of the day this includes cannons and all other weapons today this includes AI !!!! Do you understand now‽ Therefore any regulation on AI is null and void... Understand Gary‽
Absolutely. Gary is one of the worst people to ask about AI. He's very prolific, but he's been beating the "neural networks have hit a wall" drum for decades now
A high-quality human savant can easily appear to take the intellectual property of other people... But every word that we speak is the intellectual property of other people that are no longer here on this planet... Like I said before we are products of our environment...
Plagiarism doesn't exist! We are all products of our environment and we all learn from our environment just because AI is a savant and better at replicating its environment doesn't mean that it's engaging in plagiarism if so then we plagiarize every word that we speak because we did not come up with the language everything that we've learned is through our environments we are all products of our environment and we all build off the shoulders of giants! Gary Marcus is a fool!
I would argue that AI is some of the top military technology and is therefore classified under the second amendment and therefore we have the unimpeded right to have this technology as the militia and a national guard is not an actual militia because it limits who can join... A militia will accept everyone... Fundamentally that is the reason for the militia... We can have absolute presidential immunity if we have a well-regulated militia that is equipped with armaments that are equal to top military equipment this includes AI... So therefore we cannot regulate it and all regulations are null and void because they are against the Constitution which is the supreme law of the land and so therefore your entire argument is null and void and you just need to stop!
One of the most important podcast episodes I've listened to this year, ty.
Thank you, gentleman. I may never sleep again. 🤦🏼♀️

5:00 ish How many members of Congress have any understanding of technology, let alone AI?
The Overton Window needs MASSIVE STRETCHING.

I can’t even read a book in two months 😂
Gary Marcus is one of the worst guests, super biased and regularly wrong about AI
Definitely lol 🤣
Absolutely. Gary is one of the worst people to ask about AI. He's very prolific, but he's been beating the "neural networks have hit a wall" drum for decades now
Agreed from a technical perspective his understanding is very poor.
I beg to differ. Yes he is super biased, but he is absolutely correct about his views on AI.
