At least the European AWD models have the Terrain Mode button too. And in Finland, we can freely spec the GT-Line as a a) 6-seater with swiveling middle seats b) 6-seater with relaxation seats c) 7-seater with a bench seat. It's weird how it's not available as so on the other side of the pond.
Every review should include the battery replacement cost now since it was recently revealed that the Ioniq 5 battery is nearly $60,000! As long as that lasts, EVs are off the table for me.

Really? Do you drive a lot? We have an IONIQ5 AWD Limited/Ultimate with less range than this and have had no issues with any type of range anxiety, even in winter. We do have a charger at home though and usually plus in every other day to top it off.
@@EverydayReviews2022good to know! I do not drive a lot but my family do roadtrips every spring/summer along the east coast. The extra range could reduce on charging stops.
@@1520074 At least with the 800V architecture, it has the capability to be one of the fastest charging vehicles out there if you get the right charger.
@@EverydayReviews2022 Range has been the only thing giving me pause too. We regularly do non-stop drives 250 miles to a cabin (in sub-freezing temps in the winter) or to visit a relative 220 miles away, all highway in both cases. With a dual motor Rivian this would be possible non-stop. With the EV9 we would have to factor a stop and charge into the trip.
What is the advantage of waiting? If I buy now, Kia will send me an adapter next year and I'll be able to use any charger, Tesla or others, instead of just the Tesla ones.
@@ChiefComplaintX Not worried. First, Kia committed to the adapters in writing in their official press release so if they changed their minds anyone who purchased based on that info would have a claim. Second, there are already third party adapters on the market now and with more companies converting there will be more. So one way or another, you can use an adapter and benefit from both networks. With Tesla you will get more location and with some of the existing non-Tesla locations you will get the benefit of faster charging.

We traded our Audi to get an EV9. That being said, I suspect that a majority of the people who buy German luxury brands wouldn't be caught dead in a Kia. We decided that for the money and our needs, the EV9 made much more sense than any of the other options, including what is available from Mercedes, Audi, BMW, Lexus, etc. right now. Maybe in the future when more 3 row EVs come out; but right now, this was a no brainer. However, yes... it's leased. I'm not going to go that "all in" on these first gen EVs right now.
Even price neutral I would buy an EV9 or Rivian over the X. I prefer the true SUV look, the more cube-like cargo capacity, the better third row seat, the lack of Falcon doors, and in the case of the Rivian the ability to turn regen braking on/off on demand and to have CarPlay and physical climate control buttons. With Kia getting access to the supercharger network next Summer, I can't really think of anything I would prefer in the X, other than perhaps the better assisted driving features.
Most people that go for the top trim are empty nesters or don't have kids at all. And prefer the captains chairs. Having every possible combination increases inventory cost for dealers and would result in price increases in the real world even if MSRP stayed the same.
I agree with everything thing other than it’s for sure based on demographics. In my area and circle, I hear the complete opposite as everyone would want a bench but get the top trim . Most people I know use SUVs for kids. I’d prefer a bench on a top trim myself. Guess depends where you live
Unless you have a seven person family, the six seater makes much more sense. We went from a seven seat Model X to the six seater EV9 and for our family of six, it's just so much more convenient this way. More room, easier to move around in and the third row isn't nearly as isolated.
Yeah, pretty ok but don't trust Hyundai/Kia after their battery debacles and frankly I need 400 mile range so I can have at least 330 actual mileage. I think BEVs just need to bake a few more years.
For someone that does long trips often then not for you. EVs for sure aren’t for everyone. Our IONIQ5 AWD has a range of 260 miles/ 420 kms and we never come close to emptying the battery. Most people drive less than 45 miles a day and going bigger and bigger with more battery cells just adds more weight to carry around. Power density is getting higher so we will see higher ranges in the same sized battery. Nothing is going to happen overnight though. Also depends what your charging situation is. If you were relying on public charging then I get it why you’d want more range, if you can charge at home/apartment then it’s so much easier
It’ll come but won’t happen overnight. At this time demand is still high compared to supply so manufacturers will concentrate on building cars that can maximize profits. Like the Cybertruck, you won’t see a RWD base model for years, just higher trimmed ones.

This is almost $20,000 more than a comparably equipped Telluride on Kia's own site. How can this possibly succeed in the mainstream market with that kind of price gap?
I hear ya. Depends where you live though. For instance, in Canada a Telluride SX will run you 60k whereas the EV9 Land+Premium which is very comparable is $75K but you can get up to 12k off in EV rebates making it very comparable plus you’re getting 100HP more, double the torque and it’s instant plus so newer features the Telluride doesn’t offer. The only other comparable 3 row EV is the Tesla Model X which starts at 110K here. It’s actually not much more in this trim than a Model Y but has more room and capability and look how many of those are sold so I think unfortunately the mainstream has gone a little upstream.
