csmatts...it's the troughs...and plentiful small sandcrab...you nailed it...there's troughs out there and they feed in them...since the late 70s into the 80s...it's habitat! The water is shallow for almost 100 yards and there's deep troughs about 3-4 feet deep..you can see them from PCH...they are the Green spots in the brown Sandy water...😎 peace Eric Underwood Class of 81 Downey High school CA
Nice fish! And awesome that you got in on an LC! I noticed you are fishing the surf pointer, which swims deeper. Could you tell if it was dragging along the bottom/sand before you got hit? I'm wondering if that might have been part of what enticed the bite from the SFC
@@jwestfishing3229 I wonder if maybe the Spotfin was checking out the commotion and thought he would have an easy meal with all the clams/shells getting stirred up. He probably sucked it right as you were dragging it across a bed of bean clams! Seems like it was in the first trough where it bit?
@@jwestfishing3229 appreciate you 🙏🏽 , I’m been tossing around names but it’s most likely going to be the “TheOceansideSportfisher” Look forward to seeing more of your videos and possibly collaborating down the line. 🤙🏼
I think they are good to eat. Lots of people have told me that. I did not have a cooler, I did not have ice. It takes me an hour at least to get home. I didn't want to deal with it. I got what I came for. Thanks for commenting!
Very nice catch Sir! Thank you for sharing the details as well! Excellent
Thanks!
I eat anchovies too. Especially on my pizza. I think I'm going to have some now. Cool video Mr. West.
Lol! Thank you so much!

Thank you so much!!
Thanks bud....Nice fish
Thanks!
Gracias Señor West👍
Por nada! Gracias!
Dog Beach just seems to hold a lot of big spotfin croaker, something about the habitat must attract them.
I have caught a few there. Usually significantly smaller....
@@jwestfishing3229 i caught a decent size one at Venice beach a few years ago off a sandworm

What length pole are you using/recommend for what you were doing?
I was using a 9' rod. Medium power. Fast action.

It was definitely hitting the sand. Pulling in small clams shells like crazy. I think I got very lucky! Thanks for watching and commenting!

@@jplee3 That sounds about right. I have caught SFC before, but this was my first and probably last time on a LC.
Awesome catch 🙌🙌 is that parking lot free parking or do we need to have the parking pass?
If you park on one of the numbered streets it's free. I. I paid for the parking. Thank you so much for watching!
@@jwestfishing3229 thanks for the quick reply, I’ll try tomorrow morning before work.

GREAT FISH" NEWSUB in IDAHO!
Great catch and cool video Jason! Congrats on your PB. Is Jan/feb bad fishing for SFC? When will yellow fin croaker be back to HB?
Thank you so much! I don't think they're bad months. Winter is slower but there is still fish to be had all year. Tight lines!
that the trifecta pro? if so what model?
TRE-S 906-1
Yeah buddy
Yes sir!
Lol there's a lot of dogs
I think the sandworms and live sand fleas are probably the best for surf fishing
Biggest one I’ve ever seen but I would have taken him to mama lol
I understand. I had no cooler and an hour drive. I would have to stop fishing, too.
Nice video my friend. Newly subscribed to your channel and trying to launch my own soon 🤙🏼

I’ve got 3 so far in Ventura this year
Awesome! What did you catch them on?
Fish may not survive after being dragged in the sand. It removes its protective slime layer exposing it to infection.
I yet to get one:(
They are not the easiest to target. I got lucky that day.
Hey brother do you need a fishing license to surf fishing here?
Yes sir. However, you can fish from the peers and the rock jetties without a license.
@@jwestfishing3229 I believe rock jetties still need a license. Only the pier is not required.
