  • How to put your Braun coffee grinder back together when you try to replace the blade, but take it apart instead.
I originally got my blade from Electric Shaver Store in Lincoln, NE.
Braun Coffee Grinder Crushing Blade, Type 4041, KSM2, KSM4 but as of March 4, 2016 they no longer have them.
    Today I ordered a new blade from ereplacementparts(dot)com. Braun Cutting Blade - 64041622 $1.99 + $5 S&H.

Was helpful in seeing just where the vertical on switch mechanism lined up. I've had this apart several times over the past decade+ but got on that this time around for some reason. Coffee build up inside causes the on switch to stick on. Thanks for taking the time to create this video.

*Have had 3 of these units in the past 20+ years. They are good grinders **MyBest.Kitchen** what most if not all the complaints are about concerns a small pop-up switch in the bottom of the unit where the clear plastic hopper slides in. Please don't throw the unit away when nothing happens after pressing the start button. Just take the hopper out, clean @ the pop-up switch or vacuum the area around the switch and I think you'll find that it turns on. Hope this helps....have read reviews where the unit only worked for one grinding, then mysteriously quit working. Again, clean the switch it will most likely solve the issue.*

In my case, the small clear plastic lever at the bottom of the unit, that is activated by the long bar being pushed when you put the lid on, is broken and the parts are no longer available, as far as I can find.

Thank you SOOOOOO Much!! I just ordered the replacement blade on Amazon, and have been working with the broken blade for the past 3 months. I found a really skinny flathead screwdriver and removed the old blade. Now, just waiting on the new one, and will definitely put a towel or something around it to not get cut. Much appreciation for this video!!! Yes!

I took the biggest flat head screwdriver out of the small screwdriver set I use to fix glasses put it in my vise flat bit up, found the slot by feel by manipulating the old blade assembly, then used the correct socket to ratchet it out. Put the new one in and hand tightened and did final snugging with socket, making sure the bit was still on the slot. Thanks for the post. It kicked off my own solution. Not much torque needed to remove the blade assembly so those doing it the first time will be pleased how easy it is to get it off.

Thanks for the entertaining and informative video. I had taken the Braun model KSM2 type 4041 all apart and could not figure out how to orient the little plastic clip that serves as a thermal safety switch (it is located on the opposite side of the trigger switch). It turns out that your video was the only place in all of cyberspace that showed this clip correctly installed. Thanks to your video, my grinder is back to chomping its way through the flax seed again.

This was a great video. Thank you! Others made it pretty clear how to take it apart, but not how to reassemble. Also, the trick for simple blade replacement, using the slot in the bottom could have saved me a lot of hassle. Sigh...
I will note that replacement blades are VERY hard to come by now. Braun, Amazon, ebay and ereplacementparts no longer carry them. I had to resort to buying a used KSM2 with a faulty motor for parts and do some pilfering. The actual blade was in mint condition, but the plastic cap (with threading house) was cracked open. It works, but isn't very pretty and I'm sure plastic fragments can get into the grinds. I'm going to try to rebuild that housing using epoxy putty, letting it dry, sanding, and re-threading the new part of the cap, but I'm still on the lookout for a mint replacement blade.

Great video. Just a suggestion...in this case, you can heat the end of the screwdriver and enlarge (melt) the slotted hole in the bottom of the plastic case a little to allow the screwdriver to properly engage the shaft. Regards.

The motor on mine seized up. Upon disassembly, I found it was simply so gunked up and corroded that the motor shaft would barely turn. If you have this problem, try this:
    1. Remove the circlip on the bottom of the motor shaft. It's the C-shaped thing that fits in a groove at the end of the shaft and keeps it in place. Don't lose it.
    2. Drip Liquid Wrench ("penetrating oil") around where the top-side shaft enters the motor (the end that the blade attaches to).
    3. Tap the bottom of the shaft with a hammer, hard enough to move it up a little bit. It doesn't go that far, because the internal motor parts limit it. Now tap the top of the shaft with the hammer to push the shaft back down. Repeat this, moving the shaft back and forth and turning it until you've worked the penetrating oil into the grime and loosened the shaft.
    4. When the shaft spins pretty freely, wipe off as much of the Liquid Wrench as you can, moving the shaft back and forth to expose more to wipe. Re-lubricate it with a light oil. I dripped some on both ends of the shaft. I used Tri-Flow, which is big with bicyclists. Not sure what the best choice is here, but I would NOT use WD-40: It gums up over time.

This product is still used maybe by million people at least. I teardown it myself and found out that dust easily getting inside to the motor, so maintenance dust cleaning is recommended often with vacuum cleaner. The strangest thing is that all parts today still available, but not the polycarbonate lid - and this is really awkward - why it is so hard to make a new ones with one casting mold basin i can't understand. The life of this product can be prolonged even more if someone would start making a glass lids for them.

  • @edawriter
    @edawriter 6 лет назад

Just get a 5/16" drill bit and widen the flat-head screw slot to a round hole. The plastic is soft so be careful. Don't press down hard on the drill. It only takes a second. You could probably widen the hole with a sharp box cutter or something sharp.

There are many ways to fix. I think the simplest is few drops of super glue - very in expense.
If the blade does not budge on activation, then it's the motor problem. If it turns, but slips the blade has come loose from the motor shaft. Quick test is turning the blade by hand - it will take little force to turn. If you can turn the blade easily, then its the case of stripped thread
You can replace the blade if you like.I think it's a overkill and expensive and not a easy job. In most cases it's case of cracked nut or stripped thread. The blade does not go bad easily.
Caution: In most cases the glued may have dripped below into the casing. Make sure to give the blade few turns, so that it will break loose of any casing binding.
If the plastic nut is cracked exposing the shaft thread - then squeeze few drops of super glue onto the shaft. This will bind the blade to the shaft. If the shaft thread is not cracked, squeeze the head of the plastic nut with pliers. This will crack the plastic and will expose the motor shaft thread.

How docypu get coffee out of it? Intuitively I put it on it‘s head after grinding so the coffee falls into the lid, but that is not perfect since a little bit of coffee gets in between the plastic. Do you just go in with a spoon? I think that‘s even worse? Am I not seeing some arcane knowledge here? :D

Well done. I have a broken blade in a Hamilton Beach Mdl. 80344. It has the windup hidden cord on the bottom that makes it a bit more difficult to get to that critical screw. But with some tips from you, I got the blade off and I don't think I broke any of the cord winding pieces. Now just need to find a new blade. Fortunately, I also have this Braun unit so I can compare if the blades look interchangeable.
Update: May 17, 2018 ereplacementparts doesn't stock anymore and Amazon price is $75 + $5 shipping!! Please leave a comment if you know where they can be found. Found at PickeringAppliances.ca for $12.95 but I think they only ship to Canada.

Well you're going to have to watch the video and do the steps in reverse. Basically there's two screws that hold the motor mount onto the base. I wouldn't recommend it unless you absolutely feel you need to though.
Watch the video and I'll point out things that you'll need to take into account again in reverse. The cord the alignment of the gasket. The alignment of the crosshairs on the base motor. The alignment of the screw holes.
