The Ultimate Mercedes Benz W126 Review Part 2 - Armoured 560SELs and 260SE Review, Walkaround, Tour, and Test Drive
This one we have in part 2 of the video are three beautifully preserved bulletproof W126s. A 1987 Mercedes Benz 260SE in short wheelbase, with light armouring good enough for handguns, and 2 1987 Mercedes Benz 560SELs in long wheelbase form with heavy armorning enough to withstand shots from rifles using up to 5.56mm, and 7.62mm cartridges.
Make a child draw a car, and they draw a W123 Mercedes Benz E Class. Make a child draw the same car, but with larger pencils and crayons, and they end up drawing the simple, but elegant W126 Mercedes Benz S Class.
First released in 1979, and sold until 1991 the W126 Mercedes Benz S Class was the longest produced Mercedes Benz S Class, and for good reason. If it a'int broke, don't fix it. (as well as the R&D time needed to develop the next generation legendary W140 Mercedes Benz S Class. It featured safety features, and creature comforts that we may take for granted nowadays, but was surely an engineering marvel for its time such as ABS, traction control, front and rear crumple zones, seatbelt pre-tensioners, driver and passenger side airbag (for later models), as well as electrically operated front and rear seats plus electrically operated head restrains (which are not even standard in most cars today).
The W126 came in multiple forms: short wheelbase W126, long wheelbase V126, as well a a coupe version C126. It also came with multiple engine options ranging from the inline 6 engines such as the carbureted 280S M110 with 154hp, the M103 260SE, 300SE/300SEL with 169hp and 190hp respectively, all the way to the big V8 M116 based 420SE/420SEL, M117 500SE/500SEL, and 560SE/560SEL with as much as 300hp.

Since, like me, you own a W140, it would be interesting to see you do a side-by-side comparison. You really get a sense of just why the Germans, and others, were so floored by how BIG it was. It's like a 'his' and 'hers'. I have a W126 in the trunk as a spare. Doug Demuro called and wants to intern for you. "THIS...is a car review!"

I've got the 560sel with the same engine, they are sluggish as hell with normal driving but when you floor it they can really take off
I love how the transmission is tuned for both scenarios. It can just react to whatever driving style you want out of it

Wow, I actually drove a Mercedes Benz just like these back in 2010. For some reason the USAF Chaplain on base had two of these late 1980s cars at his disposal to use in Germany. I flew into Germany for R&R from Afghanistan and he let me barrow one for a few days.
Boy was is a very heavy car to stop!
Was his also armoured? The non-armoured ones feel heavy but not that bad haha! Drove it in part 1 of the vid. These though I will agree that they’re ridiculously hard to stop
@@KyleLiongCars yes they both were armored late 1980s cars. My guess is they must have been in service to someone special on Base then basically got old and handed down to the Chaplain to use such was my situation.
Makes me want to be a USAF chaplain now too hahaha

Another intertesting and informative post. This was probably the back-up of the Presidential Cars of Pres. Cory and Pres. FVR. When I saw Pres. FVR, there was an identical back-up. I think they really have a back-up for security and emergency purposes.
Yes most probably so. This is the newer 560SEL so the 500 in the museum is probably the original car and later became a backup car when this was acquired

Yeah I know I should have, but I was really pressed for time haha! I owned a 260SE before and it was not that underpowered. I’m guessing the light armouring on it should be slightly fine

I don't know about other countries but damn. Armoured cars weigh at least 4 tons so the road taxes must be insane. :')
In our country, after 2301kg (basically most LWB cars with at least a V8) are already at the top tier of the taxes so it doesn’t really hurt any further to get armoured vehicles hehe

I'm from Iraq in her we called this car presidential not even mercedes still today clean w126 more expensive than new s class .
Btw sadam Husain car was different option than this car on RUclips cause it's special position if you check menu's book of the car you see option number 47 it's written sadam Husain option .
And sadam Husain used silver colour for protocol and white colour for nation celebrations he never used black colour only his sun Uday sadam Husain used black colour .
Still today this car have present .

@@KyleLiongCars before we have a 98 bmw 316i pag nalock ka kasi sa loob may tinatawag na m3 lock features meaning kapag pinasukan ka ng mga magnanakaw sa loob at naisara mo ung pinto sa loob tpos ung key entry late nalang nag push si owner it supposed na malalock ka sa loob then di ka na makalabas kahit hatakin mo pa ung lock bar and mag sa siren na ang alarm. Parang ma tatrap ka na sa sobrang kapal pa ng salamin

@@michaelbaldeo8386 Possible pero highly unlikely. Never heard of this feature pa so far. I've had 6 Mercs na so far, W126, 2 W124s, W210, W140, W204, and BMW F10, E90. Lahat mga yun parang wala naman. Maybe feature yun na specially ordered para sa bulletproof car niya since you can custom spec your bulletproof car naman usually upon order. As for normal run of the mill cars, I don't think may ganun. I don't think na legally pwede yang ganun sa mga normal cars because of safety issues.

@@KyleLiongCars Can't wait for it! The SEL AMG is navy blue and has its license plate that said AMG 560. Also, there's a white SEC AMG (but I don't see the original AMG badge design). Both used to owned by the owner of AMG560 Wheel Shop, you can check his FB page. He stanced these AMGs at one point in the time, same thing for his W140 S600. lol
