Right On John, I am so over his lack of accountability in this matter and that is why the family is upset, he is responsible no matter what and if it was you or I, charges would have already been brought.

After having watched the interrogation of Alec Baldwin, and the two interrogations of the “armorer,” it’s pretty clear that the usually-standard protocol on sets was basically non-existent on theirs. The weapons and ammunition were haphazardly strewn about on the prop cart, then the armorer failed to do her due diligence of ensuring the gun was cold before handing him the weapon, and then lastly the actor failed to double check or verify that the armorer did indeed hand him a cold weapon. The corners the production team cut to save some money is shameful, and resulted in this poor woman losing her life, and all because of several people failing to do their role in ensuring safety on the set.
You are assuming it was an accident, not a built-in cover-up
The armorer did not hand the weapon to Alec Baldwin.
They had 22 guns on set, according to the armorer. Granted, some were dupes and some were dummies, but let's say 12 actors carried cold guns all day long for their scenes. She's not expected to follow 12 people around all day while they film cold scenes to make sure nobody loads a live one for a dummy for a scene that isn't hot. That's really the job of the other two props people.

Thank you! This hasn't been said enough in these conversations. Gun safety says you check your gun. Other actors have confirmed set safety says you check the gun. Not only that, as someone who is at least familiar with guns, practiced with live ammo and blanks, he's saying that gun went off in his hands and he didn't know what happened?? He's acting like the gun was inert in his hands as it went off, there was a mysterious big noise and he didn't know the gun fired. I don't believe it one bit.
He had to have had a firm grip on that gun like you do when ready to shoot or it would have recoiled and came out of his hand.
It's not supposed to be a real gun. Live ammo not allowed on set.

SAG rules require safe procedures on movie sets even though as you say live ammo is “not allowed” on set - the rules exist because real bullets exist and mistakes are sometimes made. And for sure, this set had a poop load of blanks which at the distance between Helena and Alec would still have been extremely hazardous - risk of blindness, and even death if some crap was left in the barrel.
@@garywatson He knew it was a cold gun. A prop. If he assumed and rightfully so no live ammo on the set this accident would not have happened. You cannot and would not expect an actor with all he has to think about to be in charge of safety of a prop gun that has capability of firing live ammo. SAG rules makes it mandatory to have a safety person on set know as the armorer.

SAG-AFTRA released the following statement on today's news regarding charges in the Rust tragedy.
"The death of Halyna Hutchins is a tragedy, and all the more so because of its preventable nature. It is not a failure of duty or a criminal act on the part of any performer.
"The prosecutor's contention that an actor has a duty to ensure the functional and mechanical operation of a firearm on a production set is wrong and uninformed. An actor’s job is not to be a firearms or weapons expert. Firearms are provided for their use under the guidance of multiple expert professionals directly responsible for the safe and accurate operation of that firearm. In addition, the employer is always responsible for providing a safe work environment at all times, including hiring and supervising the work of professionals trained in weapons.
"The Industry Standards for safety with firearms and use of blank ammunition are clearly laid out in Safety Bulletin 1, provided by the Joint Industry-Wide Labor Management Safety Commission. The guidelines require an experienced, qualified armorer to be put in charge of all handling, use and safekeeping of firearms on set. These duties include 'inspecting the firearm and barrel before and after every firing sequence,' and 'checking all firearms before each use.'
"The guidelines do not make it the performer’s responsibility to check any firearm. Performers train to perform, and they are not required or expected to be experts on guns or experienced in their use. The industry assigns that responsibility to qualified professionals who oversee their use and handling in every aspect. Anyone issued a firearm on set must be given training and guidance in its safe handling and use, but all activity with firearms on a set must be under the careful supervision and control of the professional armorer and the employer."

Nine months later and the DA still can't figure out that Baldwin was negligent. Andy Griffith and Barney Fife from Mayberry could have handled this better.

That is what I have been taught, and something that has stuck with me for about 34 years. It was on a test sheet from a hunter safety course. The question...What is the safety device on a gun?....Answer.....A mechanical device that can fail. Not exactly sure if it was worded that exact way, but that was the context of it. And for some reason of all the thousands of things I have forgotten in 34 years, that has stuck with me.
Nonsense, it's the armorers job, nobody would even know what they were looking at if they checked the cylinder, how are they supposed to know if they are looking at a blank, or a live round? You expect all the women and children actor's in movies to check the weapon before they shoot it? The fact that they even allow real guns on a set is the problem, just add the effects in post production.

I use to be a big rig truck driver employee of a corporation. Even though the tractor-trailer was owned and insured by the company I was responsible for the safety check before driving and the oporation of it while driving. As is Alex Baldwin when operating a firearm on or off a movie set as I see it.

I grew up in a home with several guns. My father showed them to us and kept them always empty in a safe place.
My mom would always tell us that no matter someone gave us a gun and said it was empty, we always had to check it anyway and never pointing it towards anyone until we were absolutely sure it was actually empty, I heard it soooo many times that it was pure logic, why Baldwin didn't check the gun??? Especially being an actor who already paricipated in other movies with guns. I thought I was asuming too much but now I know I wasn't.
I do believe John has gotten it right . Alex Baldwin is trying to talk his way out of this incident . The lack of accountability and entitlement on part of Mr. Baldwin and others is astounding . Why was he pointing it at the cinamatogropher? Not even in the movie. The first gun rule for any 12 yr old getting his hunter safety certificate. 1. Treat every firearm as if it's loaded. 2. Always keep your firearm pointed in a safe direction. This would of never happened if he did what he should have. Now he should be charged for murder. Absolute negligence! Meanwhile he's out buying a new property while this family suffers.

Just a thought here, as a responsible gun owner. As well as a fellow who has done a little acting.
First thing first, a movie set has an armorer. It is this person who is responsible for making certain of cold weapon. It is this person who has the responsibility.
Second thing, there is no way, by basic visual inspection that he, Alec Baldwin, could have known he was looking at a live round in the chamber.

This is the second John Schneider interview I’ve seen. Why has he got some grudge against Alec? Why did he go and talk to the Sheriff when he was not asked to?
The only thing John is wrong about is the recoil of a single action 45 Colt. It is not so bad. The plowshare grip is designed to swing up in the hand to put the hammer under the thumb to recock. And it takes up most of the recoil. It's a pussycat, really. Properly gripped. Sure, you will feel a little recoil. Even a 44mag single action isn't so bad. Used properly. Try out a S&W 500...... now that one bites! Hard!
This was negligence when production (Baldwin) chose to bring in functional firearms on this movie set. Real guns are not toys, and Alec DID NOT treat his real gun as a deadly weapon.

Alec Baldwin was negligent and he was naive but he was also irresponsible,-and more important reckless … The armour she seem frazzled and confused on the body armour footage from the police footage and tried to blame the second unit director. The single action revolver was in Baldwin's hand and it's his responsibility to know the condition of the firearm.
Do they have a video of what happened? No eye witness is going to remember the exact same testimony. Also what people remember changes over time. I am not saying Alec is not at fault but it will be hard to prove he did anything - that will land him in jail.

Look, I get accidents on set and this has happened before with Brandon Lee and Michael Massee, the actor who shot him was so affected he took a year off from acting.
He said he never got over it and he never watched the film until he died in 2016.
He didn't act like Alec Baldwin, he kept his head down and he was devastated because no matter how you look at it, it was an accident, it was a scene on the film, but it happened. A life was taken and it's tragic.
What Alec should have done was shut up and not do any interview saying he doesn't feel any guilt.
This was a reckless negligent accident but to say that is just so callous to the family of the victim. Alec is a psychopath but he should have at least acted remorseful or guilty but even that is difficult for him.

In the Army using "MILES GEAR" (Military Laser Tag using Blanks) we are told if firing at others in training to "aim away" and yell out "Safety Kill" to prevent powder burns....
The first rule of gun safety is "do not point any gun at a person" This applies to Firearms, dart guns, paintball guns, and even squirt guns. Firearms are to be checked as EMPTY, dart guns can put out an eye, Paintball guns require eye protection and clothing helps,
Even a cap gun can cause a problem causing injury if someone jumps out of the way and gets injured. BBs or pellets can put out an eye. Ignorance of the first rule/ law of gun safety is not a defense.

No, of course I don't know everything...but I know if that weapon had been checked and Baldwin rechecked it. It doesn't matter who's weapon it is. Especially if its not your weapon...Check the weapon. We wouldn't be having this conversation if those simple steps had been taken.

Keep in mind, if you will. I know nothing about Hollywood and the different procedures "they" have.
I only know of the universal way to train with firearms. That was how myself and most are trained.
So cool of a man I enjoy his movies and acting. He was great as Bow Duke! And knows a lot about fire arms and armorment. Always a fun time with him.
I have shot on can of pop. It is rifle I took one shot. When I do practical shooting on the rifle, it was very loud indeed. That thing I did once, after the first shot, I do no more. The gun is lightly than rifle. Yeah something I don't understand in this case Alex knows what he is doing. It seems he intention was real. There was something about that woman she has made film of something that Alex did't want her to make filming . Whichever she didn't tell anyone of her project. That now is bearing is in her grave. No one knows what behind her story. We never know the real story behind the curtain.
This particular gun has a three click trigger, when clicked in the first or second pullback, the gun shouldn't fire, click back three times the gun will fire, there is a video on RUclips about said gun.
John looks great, and he hits it on all points, he could have also been a great attorney! 🇨🇦
First off his finger is on the trigger, which as I was taught at a mildly young age. Never keep your finger on the trigger, and I agree the gun should have been checked by him. Even when I'm at the range, it's still my responsibiltiy to know if my gun is loaded or not, and yes I double check everything not just for my safety but for those around me.
Checking to see if that gun is cold is spinning the cylinder which would have taken less then two seconds
Did you watch the video and hear the explanation? Do you know what a revolver is and why a closeup shot of a gun pointing towards the camera has dummy rounds in the cylinder? How do you verify a “cold gun” by spinning the cylinder in 2 seconds if it’s loaded with dummy rounds? You sound as incompetent as everyone else on the movie set with a statement like that.

Each person who handled that weapon is responsible. Alec Baldwin is even more so as he fired the weapon while everyone was standing by. Those people were only 6 to 8 ft away from him when he fired. Like John says point blank basically. They were all crowded together in that small room with all the cameras and equipment they were using for the scene. No one handles a weapon let alone points it a a person without checking to see if the safety was on and or empty.
Another fact on them old guns the hammer has to be cocked and trigger pulled in order for it to fire. Baldwin is lying on that count as well. He says he did not do it. You can clearly see in the videos him doing it and his hand shakes when doing it.
He is criminally responsible and needs to be in jail!
Alec Baldwin is also the producer of the entire movie.. So he is not only responsible for what he has done but also for everything on the set..

Alec Baldwin and all those who handled the gun, should have checked the chamber when receiving the gun from the previous person. It is inexcusable. Especially with his experience. He is responsible for making sure that the gun was not loaded at the time he received it.
A good example of this sort of failure is when a suspect has been arrested, the arresting officer checks for any possible weapon or something that can be harmful. The next person to handle the suspect must repeat the same procedure. If something was found during a search, then the previous person(s) handling is/are responsible for failing to properly search the suspect. A suspect may be searched several times before being put in a holding cell. And then the searches continue the moment the suspect is moved out of that cell to another location.
So, when was the bullet placed there or projected to the location? From a distance? Was there a lot of black powder in the gun? So set up. On the Set. Hairy is scary. Piano, glick. Dogging on a man dogman. Shirt on backwards. Confeder8? ❌ Marks MAN, the SPOT. LENSES. I CEE SIS.SAW.
But who left a bullet in the gun? Why was the gun allowed to be used for target practice?

Checking to see if it's cold is one thing but choosing to be on the other side of a gun aimed at you is another. Both parties are at fault in my opinion. He shouldn't have pointed it at them but they shouldn't have been there to begin with. There are monitors hooked up to the camera for visuals.

Besides his views on Alec Baldwins actions, I have heard what John Schneider has to say about his beliefs on US politics. No time for him anymore. My boys loved that TV program, but how little we knew. I would be interested to know exactly why he is really here and approached CourtTV to do this.
He’s telling the truth. Alec Baldwin and everyone that picks up a gun and points it at someone has culpability. The difference here is Baldwin is a liberal celebrity. WHO btw was taught to shoot by his sharpshooter Marine father who was the instructor of a shooting team at a high school. Believe it or not, he does know a few things about protocols and safety measures on movie and tv show sets. Also, just like you have a right to your political beliefs, so does John. As for real wounds injuries, the Army overlooked some physical shortcomings due to my brains. I was a paper pusher, a planner. I had the secondary duty of base security at the Base Hospital while Deployed, I saw guys all blown up from ied's. No tell me what I don't know.
