    That does seem to be a rapidly growing trend in RPGs- a rare enemy that is difficult to kill before it escapes but offers tremendous rewards if you manage to do so. Something to break up the flow of the usual battles.

    I can confirm that metal slimes appear since DQI. Also, there are a few extra hints to fighting them. Like you said, Erik's Critical Claim is a godsend because crits go right through all that metal goo, but some of the other characters also get skills that give a high crit rate. These skills are Hatchet Man and Thunder Thrust (plus their upgraded versions in VIII), which give a 50/50 of crit or miss. For XI, the characters that can pick these skills up are Serena, Jade (Spear), and the final party member (axe). In IV-VII, the cursed item Hela's Hammer gives a similar effect. Thunder Thrust first shows up in VIII as one of the hero's moves, and Hatchet Man shows up in VI, or the remakes of IV, and onward. Even if you can't invest in all that, the move Metal Slash shows up in the same games as Hatchet Man, giving at least a guaranteed hit, and can be good if you have a falcon blade or two. Another hint for XI, if you can spare the pep (or have enough pep pips/pops) you can use the Hallelujah pep power, requiring the Luminary, Jade and Erik, before Electro Light to squeeze even more xp out of the metal menaces. Plus, I think Metal Kings drop pep pips so you get a little of your investment back.

    • @veghesther3204
      @veghesther3204 Год назад

      The only Problem with the Cursed Hela hammers is that you can't even use Physical skills in DQ6 with it I tried and it still makes those that aren't Hatchet man still FAIL to connect over 50% of the time.

    6:30 Metal King Slimes have around 25-30 HP and Liquid Metal Slimes have around 15-20. This means you cannot hunt them reliably without some way to force critical hits, though moves like that tend to miss a lot. Aside from Critical Claim of course.

    • @DragovianLancer
      @DragovianLancer 5 лет назад +3

      Also, in Dragon Quest Monsters Joker, Metal King Slimes have much lower defence than in other games, meaning if your monsters are strong enough, you can defeat them in a single hit!

    • @ultimaterecoil1136
      @ultimaterecoil1136 Год назад

      You could also just go for boosting your crit rate and using multi hit attacks. Rab and jade are best at this because of their access to claws.

  • @DSaC_
    @DSaC_ 4 года назад +32

    Dragon Quests IV, VII, and IX have what is essentially the ultimate form of a Metal Slime called the "Platinum King Jewel"
    They have the same defense as a Metal Slime, but also come with 200 HP and capped Agility. There's basically no way to reliably defeat them, the best way to do it is to max out one of your party member's Agility, hope they win the coin-flip to move first, and then hope they get a crit. It's actually pretty easy in IV, since Alena can easily cap her Agility, has a sky-high crit rate, gets a weapon that attacks twice in one turn (so she has 2 chances to crit), and you get an item that lets you reset a battle back to Turn 1 as many times as you want.
    You should play other DQ games if you liked XI. It's a very consistent series that rarely takes risks (basically the antithesis of Final Fantasy), so if you like one, you'll like them all (except maybe DQII, that game is brutal)

    • @JanusHoW
      @JanusHoW Год назад

      IX had an interesting bug with some of its Grotto maps - some of them had bugged floors with messed up encounter tables. You might run into a map with a floor that only spawns one particular enemy...and one monster that could spawn like this was the Metal King Slime. Platinum King Jewels could not be made to be the only spawn on a floor.

    So to answer your question about Cindered Shadows (SPOILER WARNING!)...
    11:25- So what I saw on Twitter, if you don’t have enough units to place on the vortexes, you’ll actually get up to Three Green Units to help you out to stand on them. You’ll get a Paladin, a Sniper, and a Fortress Knight to help you out. They’re also quite remarkable strong (the Sniper has about 41 Dex/Skill so they can probably hit most things and Crit often, and the Paladin has stats on par with a well leveled Dimitri). However I’m pretty sure having to rely on them will make the map much harder given how you can’t control their movements and if any of them die and Byleth is your only non-Ashen Wolf Unit, that might need to force a restart. Still it’s really nice that they planted a fail safe for players who are playing Classic so they don’t get locked out of beating this chapter should they have too few units left.
    End.

    The only real way to beat it is tons of patience, getting as many of your party members to max level and rank in all their powers, casting defensive spells including Wallus with your mages, and then using your speedier/harder-hitting characters to attack it with Darkness/Shadow attacks, which are it's weakness.

They're a straight upgrade from a regular Metal King slime, but the nastiest thing about them is that they can cast Dazzle, which can affect your accuracy and make you miss a whole lot more! Not to mention they're surrounded by powerful monsters, and have fairly impressive attack!

    It greatly reduces your max Life (-55%; this game uses Seximal so it's actually -97.222...%, the result is usually 1-3 HP in a game where you'd normally have 100-300 (36-108) HP), sets Defense to 0, and has it so your Healing Surges are the only way you can be healed, but also reduces any damage you take down to 1 (or 0 if you block it with your shield) and greatly increases post-hit invincibility from any attacks you fail to block.

    Arzakon from Magic: the Gathering certainly qualifies, at least at first glance. Where the normal card game has you start at 20 life points, Arzakon has several hundreds, which I think is 1000 at the highest difficulty. Two problems, however:
    1. He uses a very clunky five color deck with limited removal options, meaning you can get through his life total surprisingly fast by continually building up the board.
    2. It's not mandatory to win the battle to beat the game - you already crossed his plans and are only racking up more years for which he's banished.
    Roy O. Koopa in Puzzle & Dragon Super Mario edition also has ludicrous defenses but a limited HP total that can be ground down by many hits a turn. Since if you take 5 turns, he does a single hit that easily oneshots just about any build you could bring to him.

    Some aditions to the list I thought of:
    -Buzzwole from the Pokemon series: I know there are probably more bulky pokemon like Zamazenta or Toxapex, but I don't care, I like Buzzy. So what does this JoJo Mosquito have? Well, for starters, 418 max HP and 414 max Defense, which is quite nice, it also has a lot of recovery in the shape of Drain Punch, Leech Life (Both STAB) and Roost, as well as substitute, and Bulk Up, because you really needed to raise that defense and attack, but there is something that makes it [Stand] out: It's ablility "Beast Boost", which raises your highest stat everytime you knock down a pokemon (Except HP), remember those 414 max Defense? Welp, that's also the highest stat! which translates into 621 defense with only one kill! It's main weakness is, however, it's special defense, which doesn't really shine for it's greatness, really, bring an special attacker like, I dunno, Noivern, and that guy's gone!
    -(Spoilers for Super Mario Paper's final boss) Super Dimentio from the game I just said: When Dimentio fuses with Luigi (and maybe the Chaos Heart, I'm not sure bout that), he becomes what is commonly known as a "Paralysis Demon", this guy has a forcefield around him so strong that not even Bowser's groundpound (Groundpounding makes you deal double damage and Bowser has double the damage stat compared to the other characters) will even put a dent, it can only be defeated by the literal power of love through the Pure Hearts, which makes him then become quite weak, but hey, it was bulky
    -Luigi from the M&L games: Remember when I said before that I wasn't sure the surge of bulk came from the Chaos Heart, but actually from Luigi? Well I have my reasons for! Luigi might not seem like much, specially compared to his red brother, but all these years enduring all the emotional pain of being disregarded made him able to endure physical pain like a god: With the right setup, he only recieves 1 point of damage... from the final bosses of the games, he might not be popular as his brother, but he certainly is a threat, feared by his enemies as he stands there and wins... by doing nothing
    -The Dungeon Guardian from Terraria: "What do you mean I can't enter the dungeon without defeating your master first? The door is open! Screw you old man, I'm going into the Dun-" -Last words from player, so in case you are wondering what happened, Terraria is a big meannie and doesn't like the fact that you can enter the dungeon before defeating Skeletron, how is the problem solved? Easy! Spawn the Dungeon Guardian! This colossal flying skull has quite the speed, 9999 Attack (ya aren't living 1 hit even with the most defensive setup), but it's main feature comes from it's durability, it has 9999 Defense like some of those bosses that were featured on the list, but the main difference comes from the HP, the ones in the video had like, I dunno, 3, 4, 30 being super generous, the Dungeon Guardian? Oh, not to much, just, ya know, 9999 HP: You literally would have to deal 9999 hits aprox (crit hits deal 2 damage to them) in order to defeat them, while they only need one gently tap on you! You could argue you could endure them with the right set up, and yes, some people with endgame gear have done so (and certain robot with a Wooden Yoyo), but if you thought this wasn't enough, be slow exiting the dungeon and it will not spawn a Dungeon Guardian, no no, it will spawn SEVERAL Dungeon Guardians, because screw you! And worst part is that this isn't unfair, since it is not a boss, it's a defense mecanism
    -God from the Scribblenauts games: Yeah, it's god, what were you expecting? It really isn't all that strong that you would expect for a god, but he certainly does pack a punch! he has probably the highest defense of all creatures in the game, and it also has quite the power, so yeah, maybe not godly, but quite powerful...
    -Asriel Dreemur from Undertale: The prince of the Underground, former Flowey, and the God of Hyperdeath (that's literally it's second fase name) you could say that Omega Flowey had a lot of defense, practically making it impossible to defeat without dropping his defense to 0 first, and you could also say that Sans is basically the same, but Asriel is literally invincible, he doesn't dodge the attack, he is just inmune to them, in fact, all you can do is Hope and Dream! (I see what Toby did there), He also is quite powerful, with strong and difficult to dodge attacks, there is, however, something that makes him the easiest boss in the game: You literally cannot die in this fight: if you die during this battle, it will say that "you refused to die", and you will just go back one or two turns, but you won't start over, he is also unable to kill you with his ultimate attack, leaving you with 0,00001% (which is not a thing that normally happens), but he is good boi, he even misses on purpose on his last attacks
    -Touko Fukawa from the Danganrompa Series: I know this is not a boss (except in Ultra Despair Girls), and that there are no stats related to combat, or even combat at all, but this girl has managed to survive several close explosions, like, at least 3, which may not sound like much, but, try to stay near a bomb and tell me if you made it in one piece, because she did! 3 times! that's quite the feat...
    -Everyone from the Animal Crossing series: They may look cute and everything, but these guys can withstand an axe swing without even flinching, heck, even the axe bounces back, those aren't normal animals, I swear...
    -The big mole (can't remember the name) from Super Mario World: That cool guy can freaking walk on munchers without any sign of pain (unless he is crying inside, cause the sunglasses don't let you see his eyes), and, if I remember correctly, only the superstar can defeat it, I believe he is inmune to fireballs, cape swings and even lava?
    -K. Round from Deltarune: Coming back at Toby Fox's work, here we have our target, a checker piece with DEM HOT LEGS and a puppy face on one of the sides, yeah, this guy, he may not have incredible defenses, but he can heal anything you deal to him with the power of... almond milk, like, I'm not even kidding, that's how it regens health, and no, it cannot be killed (nothing can, but you know what I mean), you can only uncrown him, which will make him revert to it's previous form and roll away, plus, his theme is catchy as heck...

      Mada Faka Noivern is your choice for a special attacker? In what scenario is that beneficial over another Pokémon? I will say, Buzzwole is probably one of my favorite Pokémon, and not just because him being a mosquito is free real estate to name him after a bunch of mosquito-born illnesses. I’ve put him to use in competition, and he was one of the first Pokémon I’ve done so with. He ain’t as bulky as I’d like. Beast Boost is cool, but he switches out frequently as a response to SP attacks. This removes the boosts. He can’t risk staying in, because he is too slow to threaten a good amount of things, but being a physically bulky monster who gets Leech Life (in the same generation that buffed the move from 20BP to 80BP, so it can actually deal damage) certainly helps. Actually, his best recovery comes in Roost, which he gets for... some reason. He pairs well with Blissey and other special walls.
      The really bulky nightmare of Pokémon was probably, until THE BADNESS, Skarmory, who consistently walls everything in Gens 2-7, despite low overall stats. Even Fire Blast and Thunderbolt have a hard time really effecting him.

    On the note of all Metal Slimes in general in the entire Dragon Quest series, there is one weapon that is needed for them when you get the chance... the Poison Needle. Sure they only do a measly one HP damage each hit, but if your next blow is a critical hit, it will be an instant kill. Plus, they are so accurate, they are certain to land a hit on the Metal Slimes.
    And if you have characters who can't equip that needle, don't worry. For mages, there is Poof!/Bedragon. The Metal Slimes have no defense to that dragon's breath, but you have to spend a turn to charge it up once first cast.
    And for sword wielders, there's the Falcon Blade. Sure it's expensive and lacking in attack power, but its ability to lash two blows for the price of one should be helpful.

    Dragon Quest Builders(yes the minecraft knock off one) has metal slimes. They have a high speed, and can run away faster than you if they see you. But sometimes you need the rare drops from them for items. It's best to sneak up quietly and then lay down the beating. I'm pretty sure they attack you once and then flee for the hills, soon disappearing. But the one flaw in their plans? They sometimes corner themselves, and render themselves unable to despawn once you close the gap. Easy prey, if handled correctly

  • @Dw7freak

    For the Dragon Quest Metal Slime family, their gimmick is that they only take 1 point of damage without crits, which ignore defense, Metal Slash, which allows you to deal 2 damage, Tension, which doubles the attack value of the next attack and can stack higher than one time in a few titles, or a combination of them and they have a high evasion stat, so they can avoid attacks easily on top of taking 1 or less damage, but gives insane amounts of experience compared to everything else in the game. The regular Metal Slime/Metaly has been around since the beginning with 3hp and gives 1000 exp. Liquid Metals/Metabbles have been around since 2 with 35hp in the original NES version and 5/6hp in every game since and give 10k exp. Metal Kings have been around since 4 and have a whopping 20hp and 30k exp. Finally, there's the Platinum King Jewel/PlatKing from 7 with an insane 200hp, basically requiring a crit at that point, and 65k exp. The spin-offs and MMO have even more variants.

    Reminds me of MA-X Angelus-0 from FFXV. That dude has the second highest vitality (defense) in the game (behind a DLC Boss) and only takes 10% damage from all attacks. This means that even if you use the most powerful weapons in the game like the Balmung (not counting the Garuda ones), it will only take around 90 damage when you are around its level (99). It has 202k HP, so if you don’t have the correct set up of buffs and magic, it takes a frikin’ hour to take it down. If that wasn’t enough, it has a 5% chance to drop the best gear in the game, Magitek Suit V2, which means that if you want to have it you’ll have to beat it 10+ times.
    Edit: oh yeah it also does 9999 attack if you don’t have correct gear, too. And it has unphasable attacks.

    These remind me of Bug Fables' Golden Seedling. It has only 4 HP, the same as a regular Seedling, but if you spy on it, you'll find it's defense listed as "??". Turns out it reduces all damage it takes to 10% (without going below 1), and in Bug Fables, it's really hard to deal over 9 damage in a single hit. Frozen Drill can deal 13 total damage but it's a multi-hit move, so it'll just deal 1 damage 4 times, which is even better (Probably, I haven't tested it out). That can kill the Golden Seedling. However, another way to beat it is to hit it with 4 regular attacks, which is favorable since Frozen Drill wastes 8 TP (Tornado Toss is 3 and still beats it though...) so it's not favorable.
    The Golden Seedling likes to run away. A lot. You can attack 3 times per turn since you have 3 characters (4 with chompy), but you can encounter this enemy at the start of the game, before you get Frozen Drill. You still have Tornado Toss, but many players won't be skilled enough to pull that off well enough to dish out enough hits. At this point, you have just Vi and Kabbu. Kabbu should use Taunt to make the Seedling attack instead of running. Unfortunately for Kabbu, he can only due this once at this point in the game, because the Golden Seedling deals 8 damage, enough to 1HKO any playable character at this point in the game (unless you rank up on regular Seedlings early on, but that will never happen).

    Metal Slimes are a pretty common theme for DQ games. Their HP levels are low, their dodge rates are high, you can't use magic, and they love to run away. Even when on the exploration map, if one sees you, they'll run away and vanish into a wall and you'll miss your chance. They do middling damage, but that barely matters.
    Though... they are susceptible to Instant Death attacks like Pressure Pointer in DQ IX and multi-hit ones. Also the Metal Slash skill for Swords in IX seems to be a guaranteed hit... provided the Metal Slime doesn't dodge it in the first place. But they provide such an obscene amount of EXP for whatever point in the game you encounter them that you really do want to try and kill them...

    More on metal slimes, metal slimes from the dragon warrior monsters gbc games are notorious for their resistances. They have extremely high defenses and agility just like how you were describing. However, they can combine to form 2 specific monsters. Goldslime from DWM1, and 2 gold slimes into Grandslime. In those games, the way spell resistances work is that they are both innate per monster species, but you can also improve them by breeding. Goldslime's in particular were used in a process often referred to as "gilding" where you you breed your best boss (boss family) monsteres with a goldslime over and over to eventually give them immunity to all magic. Only certain monsters, even boss monsters, could ever reach this though.
    Fun fact, the process of gilding and a single ability called thick fog made PvP horridly slow. Thick fog would out right block any and all magic spells for a few turns. So the only spells you could use were non-magic ones such as dances and multi-attacks. If you were facing someone and you both had max'd out stats on all 3, then the game would only have 1 goal in mind, make your opponent run out of mp before you. You, at bare minimum, would need at least 2 solid turns if all 3 of your monsters targeted a single enemy to take them out assuming everyone was at max stats. Max hp was 999, and the go-to recovery move for PvP was called meditate, which would restore 500 HP. So you think you got a good round in cause all your monsters attacked 1 enemy? That enemy uses meditate and basically negates all your damage. So PvP with gilding and thick fog turned into a waiting game for either of you to run out of mp. So metal slimes in that game were extremely powerful, far more than even their stats would suggest.

    In the same tone there is the eidolon wyrm in calamity.
    this optionnal boss spawning in the abyss had aburdly high defenses: 3000 PLUS a 99.99% damage reduction, even the craziest weapons will just scratch that. (and in calamity some weapons are ridiculous ).
    Also, please consider the JUVENILE eidolon wyrm had stats similar to some of the last bosses, with the eidolon wyrm having an attack highter than the final boss (also give you many debuff and is immune to a lot )
    The good new : in calamity there is no dodge, so it doesn't had crazy miss chance too.
    The bad new : it had 30 000 000 HP.... yeah
    The tiny good news : some weapons attack really fast with a lot of projectiles, wich can create lot of debuff and sub projectiles depending on your gear ,so you can actually reach a dps who can give you HOPE to defeat it.
    Btw, it had telekinesis, it will time to time pull you in the opposite direction of where you were going, so if you attempted to approach him you will be yeeted away (you'll see why you might want that ), and if you were fleeing you'll be dragged in ...probably in his face or in once of his attacks...who hurt like hell since it had the hightest damages of all vanilla calamity
    Also the boss had an enormous flaw (not a good thing for you ) : like any regular ennemy/miniboss if you goes too far it might despawn, so sometime by trying to kite it he'll just be gone and you'll have to redo the whole process (i already got him despawning at like 25% hp)
    So you want to stay as far as possible from him to avoir being yeeted on his face, but you better be carefull to not be too far away..because if the boss is offscreen and you loose track of his movement you might not see him dashign toward you .....or going away from you, because sometime his movement make him go way away.
    Why bother defeating it?
    Well there is a weapon , the hallibut canon , you can drop it against regular ennemies of the abyss, miniboss of the abyss , or against the eidolon wyrm.
    Against regular ennemies it had like 0.00001% drop (not exagerating), against minibosses 0.1%, and against the eidolon wyrm 100%...so pick you poison please....also if you had the fargowitas mod installed this weapon is part of the craft reciepe for the Omega blue enchantment....
    The super good new : there is ONE weapon, offten viewed a a crappy one who can greatly help you : the Coldheart Icicle
    This weapon is like the copper shortsword : it only deal 1 damage, had terrible range and hitbox and on top of that is super slow...so why use it against the most durable boss? well it had one effect who is still not viewed as worth it against most bosses...it reduce the target max HP by 2%.
    Oh yeah this sound like a go to ! but there is a problem...remember the boss deal massive damage? if you jump head first on the boss to TRY to land a hit, you're guaranteed to take a hit...the good news is with invulnerability frames you might as well manage to land 1 or 2 more hit.
    But since you took a hit..you better be carefull to not take damage while you're waiting for your hp to go up for your next assault.....of and remmeber what i said earlier, it might yeet you away from him.

    For reference with DQ metal slimes, there's a version in DQIX that has a lot of HP, and a much higher EXP payout than the Metal King Slime. I believe it is called the Platinum King Jewel. Even harder to kill (as metal slash isn't as useful), but the reward is worth it, particularly in a game where your level resets a ton.

    When i saw the final guard in this video i just remembered, in the dlcs of that game in chapter 9 to 11 there are some weapons with the same name but those has +1. so the only way to get it is to go farm with a especific character depending the weapon you want because you have more chances to get the crissagrim with alucard than soma because soma has the chance to get the same weapon and the claim solais both +1 in chapter 10, so when you use those weapons the max dmg you can make with full soma dmg and the claim solais +1 is almost like 10 or 11 if you increased the dmg by just eating one especific thing,
    Crissagrim +1 or better known as a valmanway +1, you probably know already how fast that weapon can be or the muramasa +1, that weapon can make like 7 or 8 dmg and there is the other way about lvl up the sub-weapons with the vampirekillers to increase their base dmg, but being honest that method is almost like spend all your day time to lvl up only 1 sub weapon so if someone still playing this like me, i recomend you to lvl up all the sub-weapons to lvl 8 because lvl 9 takes 6 hours if u don't know how to manage those throws with your sub-weapons. oh yeah and if you farm, prepare to get a lot of decepcions and a lot more in multiplayer

    In DQ9, theres a cliff were it spawns most of the slimes, including the Liquid Metal Slimes, tho the underground grottos have a rare chance to spawn those Metal King Slimes.
    Except the strongest of the strongest is the Platinum King Jewel, you either need to rely on a high crit low accuracy move or insta kill move to finish them before they run...

    I remember a similar case of an enemy with crazy high defense in Mario & Luigi: Super Star Saga
    In that game, there's an enemy called Jojora who accompanies the Boss in Joke's End, a freezed palace
    Jojora is just a tiny girl made of Ice, she only has 50 HP, pretty low for the game standars and for a Boss, but she has 999 Defense, the highest defense in the whole game, while the final boss only has 150 of Defense and still quite hard to kill

    For your next most powerful character, I recommend *Sir Lancelot* from _Sonic and the Black Knight._ The game may be somewhat unpopular, but as a secret boss, Lancelot is SO powerful and hard to beat he easily deserves a spot next to these other candidates.

    Its kind of funny that 'this git' is creeped out by blood draining as a concept, but castlevania appeares a lot of times in the channel, even in this episode (because usually the villain and sometimes the main character is some incarnation of dracula)

    The Dungeon Guardian from Terraria is of this archetype, but even better, not just 9,999 defense, but just as much health (double on Expert mode, triple on Master mode, even more on the secret seed exclusive Legendary mode) and yet does the most (non enraged one-shot boss) damage in the game, 1000 (double on Expert mode, triple on Master mode, even more on secret seed exclusive Legendary mode), making it overall the strongest enemy in the game, and the thing you get for slaying it is just the Bone Key, in my opinion the best pet item in the game

    to add more on the metal slime subject, you can recruit them in some games
    -DQV (Hard to pull it out, even with some food. You can only gain the metal slime and the liquid metal slime if I remember right)
    -DQ monster joker (same as before, I don't know what they can do at their max lvl)
    -DQ8 as "legendary monsters", even if you can summon them for a few turns, their attack have very few utilities, except when they're together for their magical explosion, otherwise, they're not very worthy by themselves
    TL:DR : while they have extreme defence, they're not the best in fighting

    Btw I'm going to add on to these characters that have asburd defenses, low hp, but gives something very good or exp are the rare and very rare snurps from Miitopia, They have like 3 or 4 hp, Like insane defenses, and are likely to run away, however they give a crap ton of exp like metal slimes, only thing is that they don't dodge alot and demonic whispering (and Imp skill)and righteous anger can instantly kill them
