Boundaries are soooo necessary. As babies, we require them & as we grow & develop, we need them, definitely, more for our mentle & emotional good health. So easy to see & harder to protect. Guard your heart, people, as well as your mind, soul & spirit. Just like on the airplane, YOU put your oxygen on, BEFORE you can help anyone else. Thanks 4 your time, sacrifice & value to this channel.

I am the boss making sure I treat staff respectfully and supportively....I want a staff refreshed and passionate about their lives and work As a team we cover each other in emergencies ..we all carry the work together. Meetings were cut in half productivity increased.

I fixed all of this by retiring early (53 years old). I've been asked if I made the right decision. It's been 1 year and so far so great.

That's awesome. Did you follow a lot of the teachings of the FIRE movement basically?

I’m so happy for you glad you were able to get out. I have four more years to go God willing. Wouldn’t want to be just starting out at all.

Thanks for this Josh, Ryan & Jason! I resonate with most of this, and I'm still struggling to find a job that doesn't consume 80 hours/week. Ironically still working on my budget to see where else I can cut without being unrealistic. Staying positive I can try to find some meaningful remote work that will sustain the simple life I'm looking to live

I'm in a debate with a sales manager right now, he's boasting that his sales people are on the floor by 530am most days. I asked him how many are hitting target, he wouldn't answer. I asked him how many last more than 9 months, he wouldn't answer, I asked him how many refer friends to come work for the company, he wouldn't answer, I asked him why the approval rating on glassflaw was so low, he couldn't answer.
Burning out your staff will not make for happy, productive and healthy staff. It's a modern day sweatshop and should not be celebrated.

Whenever anyone where I work brings up issues like “I’m not getting my lunch break”, our boss always answers with something like “it’s 4pm and I haven’t even had breakfast yet” or “when I was in your position I never got lunch”... it’s passive aggressive and also means she avoids addressing the issue while normalising these issues 🤨😒🤬

Reminds me of directors I used to work with who'd say "i got 4 hours of sleep last night!" and then awkwardly stare at you wondering how little sleep you got.... sigh. So passive aggressive

If you are working a straight 8 hours, you are guaranteed by law, I believe, to have three 10 minute breaks.
You may need to find legal state aid to help with determining what the legal rights are for full-time employees or part-time.
When I worked full-time at a Union shop, they BY LAW had to give us one 10-minute break for every 2 hours worked. Look into that.
Retail likes to get away with that crap and it's complete BS.

@@jjuniper274 I've always been salary (which equates to modern day slavery). It exempts from all the state law breaks, etc. It's awful. My goal is to never go salary again, but I'm seeing hourly positions to be grossly under-paying. It's a true struggle.. =/

I lapped up every word spoken on this podcast. Thank you so much for this. We end up miserable in our jobs, spend long hours doing something we dread so that we can finance that expensive car, pay off that mortgage for that property etc, etc.
I strive for the simple life like some of the commenters here. I guess it boils down to what we want out of our very short life here on Earth.

A pretentious, showy life is an empty life; a plain and simple life is a full life.

I don't have goals either, except to stay alive long enough to raise my kids and see them succeed at being humble, productive and good citizens of this country and world.

I can see JFM as the Guss Fring of his erstwhile retail stores, checking his displays and asking his direct reports, does this look acceptable to you?
As someone who also has OCD this is very relatable.
