Maybe he was under the influence. People act strangely when they're intoxicated.
He normally gets routed around the crowds waiting to get in to the event to see him play. He likely didn't understand these weren't security for the event
@Erikpdx look at all of the cruiser lights, and first responders.... this was day two of the tournament and when he was routed thru on Thursday nothing like this was going on... he's a big boy... time to use your critical thinking skills and obey commands, period.

I will wait for the exact full story before I pass judgment on anyone involved. May turn out he said f it, im proceeding no matter what or we could also have a very overzealous cop who over reacted. Did the cop identify himself, did he reach into the vehicle and try to put his car in Park...that would be dumb. Why grab the car to begin with. Lots of variables i want answers to first.
Cops likes to attach to a moving vehicle instead of stepping aside to escalate shooting or arrest.

That's kinda how it usually works at these events though. He's in a car that is marked to show security (sometimes police that is helping with security) that he can go in. Pretty understandable that something could be misunderstood especially in the dark

The police had traffic blocked due to a fatality. Golf ball boy didn’t want to wait and drove down the median. He was told to stop several times but just kept driving. He was handcuffed and arrested as any of us would be for disobeying a police officer. Brutality? He did this to himself thinking he’s privileged.

A pedestrian had been killed on that scene requiring the shut down of the road for investigation.... Scottie made a big time mistake. He's 27... maybe this will help him grow up a bit.
It looked like normal golf fan traffic he normally can proceed around. Easy to get confused when new factors are introduced

No one knew someone had been killed… players are given these special cars to dictate to security they can get through… the cop was dressed like the security guards for these events do… it’s pretty easy to imagine the confusion.
@rorytribbet6424 The fact that nobody knew that someone had died is irrelevant... the confusion aspect is also irrelevant... you obey commands, period. yes, he had a special car, but they didn't know who he was nor did he make himself known prior to the incident... he was trying to bypass the closure, and it appears ultimately arrested for what happened to the police detective who was injured. Scottie wasn't at his best, and I hope he learns from this mistake.

When Rent A Cops are hired to direct traffic at events such as this. They have no reason to take a golfer and arrest him for not letting him through as he is getting to course to prepare for the tournament.
Obviously the rent a cop, is way out of line.
Just because he’s a golfer doesn’t mean he should get special privileges,everyone should be treated equal regardless of their social status.
Thinking it was a misunderstanding on his part thinking he was above the law. Probably a bit of pushback from the cops because someone just died.

Poor communication at this fatal accident. I can see holding him accountable for going around the traffic but a felony charge for assault?
