    The Marauder has been the premiere command 'mech for all the forces in the Inner Sphere and beyond ever since its introduction. It is decently fast, decently armored, well armed for sniping battle and light brawling. It looks extremely cool, and can do fancy things.
    And it has about 30 different variants and sub-variants and side designs. Good lord, this one was a marathon.

    I've used several variants of this machine over the years, including the original stock and D variants. I found the originals biggest advantage was it's raw Intimidatation value. Personally, for Succession Wars tech level, I really liked the 3D. 20 heatsinks. Allowed the pilot to fire its main guns far more often, and the large Laser could be fired at short ranges allowing for close quarter defense.

      I seriously prefer the 3D to most "modern refits" if you put the money down to upgrade it. XL engines are just too risky on a modern battlefield.

    Hello Prof.
    Marauders, lots and lots of Marauders. Oh, so many variants of the Marauder.
    I tend to favor several designs of the Marauder, depending on the Era I am playing within. Just to mention one of them, The MAD-5L. Being an 'all energy boat' design, it is very good at missions beyond one's supply chain's limits, and if you can maneuver it into the Enemy's secondary lines, it can wreak havoc all day long without needing ammo resupply.
    Your mention of Tex Texicus' videos on Battlemechs and History was quite appreciated. Tex has an excellent video on the Marauder Battlemech at the Black Pants Legion's ComNet site. Tex's lectures are informative and well worth the time spent reviewing them.
    As for the Marauder IIC and Marauder II, I have several variants of those Mechs that I field as often as possible. And then there is the Nightstar Mech. Another of my 'favored' designs.
    Honorable mentions go out to the MAD-7D, MAD-7R, MAD-7S, and the MAD-11D.
    The Marauder IIC-5 was altered slightly for use by the Ghost Lions Legions. It was determined that the Mech was 'over-sinked' and thus one Clan DSHS was removed in favor of another bin of ammo for the HAG-20, boosting its ammo up to 18 shots total. Only by a full Alpha Strike, does the Mech build up heat, and that only through the firing of the AP Gauss Rifles while the Mech is moving at maximum speed.

    A funny story:
    When Rand's Reavers signed up with the mercenary board on Solaris, they bought several MAD-3M models as it turned out, swapping the Autocannon for another Large Laser and heat sinks made an exceptional brawler.

  • @christopherpurches2774
    @christopherpurches2774 Месяц назад +2

    GM's MAD-BR-O was mostly an obfuscation. Unlike the Rakshasa, which was them trying to reverse-engineer a Timber Wolf, their omni-MAD was them pretending they did not already have the schematics for the Reaver. They narrowly prevented a shadow trade-war involving them, us Bears, and the Sea Foxes with that little stunt.
    Lucky that none of that will matter starting 3153.

    From a narrative stand point, I really wish the Mad II had been a purely IS mech instead of a design proposed by the Wolf's Dragoons. It would have been cool to see as an example of "convergent evolution" in Clanner/Spheroid mech design. Instead its essentially "Oh look at that cheeky Jamie, he tried to teach an Inner Sphere company how to make Marauder IIC's"

    As far as command mechs, I'm more of a Battlemaster man myself. I also find that the Marauder is a machine that is much better if you play with design quirks and they really need double heat sinks for those PPCs. I tend to use the Davion verson with 2 large lasers and 1 PPC to add some more armor and an additional heat sink. They do look really cool though, both the Catalyst and PGI models are great.

    • @ProfessorHeyTeeEn
      @ProfessorHeyTeeEn  Месяц назад

      For a lot of tanks, it's because once you have a chassis, you just need to upgrade the modules on it. WW2 gives you a lot of times where a chassis had multiple variants for different roles.
      I will get to combat vehicles over time.

    • @alecciarosewater7438

      @@ProfessorHeyTeeEn Some of the variants go well beyond mere upgrades. The GAL-105 will make you look through multiple manuals to figure out how its weapon works. The 106-M is a sharp deviation from a variant that already changes the galleon's role. The Badger E boats almost as many lasers as the Nova. At multiple points during battletech's lifespan someone saw fit to do a lot of math to create a vehicle that most players won't ever get around to using

    There is a variant of the prime in MechWarrior Living Legends that has 2 AC5, 4 ERML and 2 ERPPC and goes 86kph
    It's very strong and firing all the PPC and AC5 at the same time in the same location will tear apart anything and you also have the 4 ERML if you don't mind the heat.

    The Marauder has a couple major designs flaws that basically boils down to the arms. The default resting position of the arms is too close to the ground and forces the pilot to spend a lot of time aiming before shooting. It also has no hands, the PPC hardpoints off of the Thug and torso mounted MLs woul go a long way. Call it the kidnapper or something since it'd be in the family of goons.

    Was never a fan of this mech when we played mechwarrior campaigns back in the 80's and 90's (3025 era primarily). We much preferred warhammers, awesomes, archers, etc. It was a flawed mech with twin PPCs but only 16 heatsinks, wasted a lot of tons on an autocannon that should have gone into more heatsinks and adding additional close range punch. Granted it was still better than nothing and could be placed into fire support lances when nothing else was available. But it wasn't a mech we valued until double heatsinks came along and we would convert them into variants of our own, such as a triple PPC version with double heatsinks that was basically a more mobile (but slightly less armored) Awesome.
