Congratulations, you did well, I think I could handle them with people around, but not alone - I’ve always been scared, but suffer from extreme spider phobia now, since my parents died. Now I have netted windows, spider plugs everywhere. Sticky tape all over the place. It’s only every autumn, the rest of the time I’m reasonably ok, but not as confident as when my parents were alive. I used to love autumn, it bought out the artist in me, but now I freeze, and I’m glad when it’s over, which is sad, because of spiders. I always felt safe when I lived at their house, there were even some very little spiders that lived on my window sill , and when when I moved round the corner. I’d get em and not think twice, as long as they weren’t really gigantic. You see I’m not scared of all spiders, I don’t mind spindly ones. Or small, even smallish ones. Tarantulas don’t bother me. It’s just the huge house spiders you see in autumn, that are the bug bear, especially ones with highly arched legs, they’re so creepy. So I’m selective. I always knew my dad would come and get them. I also knew I could stay at theirs if there was anything serious. Now I won’t even have friends to watch a video over autumn, and I always did that, for fear that spiders will crawl into the room and get behind something that they can’t be caught. And I’m terrified of them getting into my bed space. Dad always said, I shouldn’t be scared of a spider. I wonder what he’d think now - because I never thought it would take me like this. My mum was scared of them, and was vocal about it. When I lived at my parents there was a big one on my bed, and I refused to sleep in the bed till it was found - they found it, I knew they would, but now I feel I have to establish myself as an adult, even though im well into middle age. I have autism and adhd. I have home helps that come in sometimes, but often the ladies are scared of them too. It’s amazing, when a big spider is found in someone’s house, it’s always a big point of conversation, people like the scare, and like to be vocal about it, which draws attention to spiders being the enemy, like a rush from the aftermath of a horror movie. Of course a lot of it is ignorance. If relatives and people and moviemakers didn’t exploit things, it could be a lot calmer. It’s finding the way back.
Spiders are wonderfully gentle creatures, who are very fearful with such an abundance of predators. As your mum also feared spiders, your fear is likely copied, arachnophobia being the most parental copied phobia of all phobias. The good news is that no matter how severe, you can overcome this phobia and we have lots of tips here on RUclips & on our TikTok channel. Good luck :)
I was getting a bit better with my fear but one was inside my trousers the other day, the noise it made when it landed on the floor put me back a bit with the screaming etc. It literally held me hostage for a week and now it is missing 🙂. It is difficult to know when I became scared of spiders, I did ask a family member and they mentioned something about it being in the car but my family are quite dismissive to my fear telling me I am stupid etc. Unfortunately I did make my brother scared of them by my reaction. I am 50 but it is right they are more scared of us.
I sympathise with you, I’ve just added a post, it’s crazy I know. I wish I was scared of something else like beetles, or lizards or mice, as you don’t get the same problems as with the influx of spiders. They’re a damn Nuisiance, and should keep out of our homes. But I’ve thought, if you can’t beat em, join them. - or at least accept them, it would be a start, but some things are easier said than done..
If only it was as easy as this. Just stop blaming them. When you don't know what caused you to be scared from as young as 1or 2 and now 35. Just pure fear. I also asked for your help at a convention you were at and was told you just have to do it. I would be your first case you would fail at. There is no chance.

100% all phobias are curable.
What about when there is no reason for the phobia.
