The ebonite feed is so that ink will wick through the nib. It has nothing to do with where you fill the pen. You always dip a pen all the way in up to the section to fill it. The reason for ebonite is it's the best material to flow ink through to the nib.
The breather hole on the nib is to allow air to flow into the pen not ink. Ink flows from inside the barrel of the pen into the ebonite feed through capillary action and you need air flowing into to equalise pressure inside the barrel. If this didn’t happen you would have a vacuum and no ink would flow. The fink flowing from the barrel eventually ends up at the tip of the nib. The tines of the nib have a small gap between them to allow the ink to flow. All fountain pen feeds have a second hole usually under the feed and near the section that allows ink to be drawn up into the ink chamber either by an ink converter or in this pen the piston inside the barrel. Moving the piston up sucks ink up into the barrel. Moving the piston down forces any ink or air out of the feed. For this to work the ink feed hole NOT the breather hole must be under the ink. You can check where the ink feed hole is by putting the whole nib and part of the section under water. Turning the piston down forces air out of the barrel and you will see and hear bubbles as the air escapes. This will prove its not the breather hole on the top of the nib its the separate ink feed hole underneath the feed and near to the section that is where ink is drawn in. Hope this helps. Enjoy your pen. It’s looks very good.
Since a couple of pen reviewers talk about Low Ink Refill I checked my pens about that function. It seems that pilot custom 74, majohn p136 and jinhao x159 have LIR. SIt seems that standard #6 feed do not have LIR. So most of the pens using #6 nib have no LIR.
I don't know of any piston filler that fills from the breather hole. All fill from channel in back of feed. Has nothing to do with what feed is made of. Need to submerge section to fill.
pelikan m800, wingsung 629/630, fills from breathing holes. That's only the pens in my collection. I bet more out there. Check my Low Ink Refill video.
@@Shanghai_Knife_Dude The problem is that ebonite is hard to work with and probably it's not even possible to design ebonite feed with "low-ink refill" support
@@Shanghai_Knife_Dude Yep, maybe they(Majohn/Moonman factory) just don't have the proper equipment to produce proper ebonite feeds or something like that. But it's bad that this pen does not have that low ink refill ability
@@tester776 the Chinese makers need to offer their most of their pens under $50. While Pelikan m800 is at $400. ebonite feed is not something rocket science. It's all about "price niche" to fit in. Hi Dude, I saw your video yesterday and made a lenghty comment. It vanished. Don't know what YT is doing. Anyway good to see that the price is quite normal except on Ali where the same thing happens as it did with the P138.
Just ink the pen and make your judgement on how it writes. I have never seen a pen review where someone judges a pan from how much water it hold from dipping the nib into water. And why complain about the price? Chinese pen are extremely affordable! Top of the line European pens can cost over $1,000!
The complain is based on other China makers with similar specifications. I compare apple to apple. Railways workers in China never go on strike. Pointless to compare price tag between European and China. Money is yours, you decide what to buy.
Just pull. But it requires skills. The ebonite feed is kind of fragile, i already knew someone has broke it in half and unable to get a replacement at the moment. My suggestion: don't practice it until this pen is widely available. This pen currently is very sought after at the moment.
Sir, I have this pen and can tell you that the performnce and quality is right up there with other pens 4 times the price. And regarding the ink filling, the feed marerial has nothing to do with how the ink is drawn up into the pen, most pens, including pens with ebonite feeds, have a filling hole at the base of the feed, so your criticism is pointless.

Exactly, I'm doubting whether this guy knows anything about how fountain pens work.

Sometimes my mails arrive big.
Love your humour 😂 looking forward to what you post next
This pen is an obvious copy of a Mont Blanc Hemingway. Looks pretty good.
I can see you've got a hell of an "unpacking" knife! Absolutely great! Is there a way we can purchase it online?
You need to understand the local regulation, which varies vastly from country to country, even region to region.

I experience the same vanishing post. YT auto delete any third party shopping sites names. AliexpreXX, for example, ali will be fine.

i bought a #6 nib fine… 8 was sold out entirely
Yes, the #8 just vanished after seconds, too hot.
I am really looking forward to getting my hands on one! Thank you so much for your video, you are the first on youtube I think.
If you do wan't to get rid of it, let me know ;)
You're going to need an ink miser just to fill the pen. You can print one if you have a 3D printer.
Yes, first. I am now working towards the best, delivering thoughtful and meaning content.

I assume from your channel name that you are Chinese or at least reside in China. May I ask you what, if anything, 'Majohn' means?
末匠, Chinese pounce: mar dgang. Straight English translation: the last standing craftsman. “majohn”, “moonman”, mimic from Chinese sound.
where can i purchase it?
Try Google the name, see whatever links it pop up.
Aliexpress and Amazon have it
Does the new Majohn post?
It does post.
